1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Educated advice on the safest long term custody of fiat money during bull run on: June 04, 2024, 06:18:51 PM
You mean that DAI is actually decentralized? And I can have it on my cold wallet?
But then, if it is actually really decentralized, what's the point of holding USDT at all? WHy do people do this?

Some ignoramus would argue that keeping coins on exchange is safer than cold storage and so would such categories of persons argue that hoarding USDT is safer than DAI. Why USDT is the most popular stablecoin is because is offers much stability when compared to others, that's it the rate at which it depegs its lesser. Aside that, it's centralized and anything can happen.

This is a very dubious and smart strategy, we ought to be careful online especially on telegram, alot of people are going extra miles, thinking of anything possible just to scam others. I will say not everything you see online is true, be careful even when you feel you just want to help someone.

Whether it's an old trick or not people would still fall for it and thanks for sharing because I believe there are persons here who are getting to know about this kind of scam for the first time. Also, I don't know if I would say the victims got what they deserve because it's only persons with bad intentions that would try to move the USDT to a different wallet.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost Bitcoin and possible future scarcity on: May 12, 2024, 07:36:27 PM
Do you think all dormant wallet (long inactive wallets) are gone forever?
No, there are two possibilities. It might be that the owner has lost the private keys to the wallet or he's not yet ready to sell the Bitcoin.

As we are not certain of Satoshi's return, should we be bothered about his dormant wallets?
Satoshi is not coming back to take ownership of Bitcoin, and I don't know why he hasn't move his Bitcoin all this years but I'm not really bothered about it. I believe there's a reason he left it there, he could have just use a mixer and send it to a new address.

do you think lost Bitcoin can cause Bitcoin scarcity in the future?
Yes, lost Bitcoins are lost forever and will help to increase scarcity just the same way altcoins are burnt to reduce supply and increase scarcity of the token.

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you start investing in bitcoin because of some celebrity ? on: May 12, 2024, 05:21:54 PM
I see that current youth is inspired by celebrities and influencers in big way.
Celebrities have some kind of influence over their followers and that's why they're are paid handsomely to advertise projects for the crypto community.

Did you also start investing in bitcoin because of some celebrity ? Or you know people who belong to that category ?
I didn't invest in Bitcoin as a result of endorsement by a celebrity and I don't know anyone who's close to me who did.

Is it a wise decision to do so or we should do our own research for better results ?
When it comes to investment it is always wise to DYOR before investing. You shouldn't blindly put your funds in any project because a celebrity endorsed it. Celebrities most times do not research about the projects and all they care about is getting paid for the advert.
13  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is Bitcoin A Safe Haven Asset For Investment? on: May 12, 2024, 02:23:50 PM
Bitcoin dey very volatile, so me i no go consider am to be a safe haven asset, its price dey fluctuate well well and e no dey retain its value for a long time, it is usually up and down. Look at Gold for example, it is a proper safe haven asset, e no go give you the kind of ROI wey you go get from bitcoin, but e dey retain its value, even during market decline.

Bitcoin has an inherent volatile nature which makes it unique, it helps you to know when to buy and when to sell. Op referring to bitcoin as a safe heaven is because it's an edge against inflation, especially in third world countries with failing economy.

For example, in 2009 in Nigeria when Bitcoin was launched, one dollar was N145 naira. With N145 naira, you could literally buy more than one Bitcoin because the price wasn't up to a dollar back then but today N145 cannot even buy you a square meal. For someone who bought and held Bitcoin over the years, he'd not feel the economic hardship because even as inflation is increasing and the purchasing power of naira is declining, the price of Bitcoin is also increasing. So Bitcoin can be regarded as a safe haven.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When is it right to invest in Bitcoin? on: May 11, 2024, 07:26:11 PM
When is it the right time to invest in bitcon?
The best time to buy Bitcoin is when the market is bearish. You can buy a lump sum if you've a very deep pocket but if you do not have the financial capacity, DCA is another good method to acquire it and you can be buying bit by bit as money enters into your pocket.

How can one start planning?
It's not something you've to think too much about, just buy no matter how small your bag is. Also, I'd like you to read educative articles about Bitcoin, crypto market and wallet security.

How do you follow up your bitcoin investment and other businesses?
By active interacting on the forum and reading in other crypto news site.
15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: May 11, 2024, 04:26:48 PM
City is really turning up the heat on Arsenal and for a moment thought Arsenal's goal difference could be deciding the title but after today's game saw City cut the goal difference to just 2 and the Gunners fixtures yet to come are certainly not easy ones of which am expecting them to drop points in the last minute just like they always do... probably tomorrow against Manchester United because this is a tough one whenever they travel to old Trafford unless something special happens and Saka play's... Otherwise give  City their title already lol

Arsenal knows very much what's at stake, they need to win Manchester United to keep the pressure on, and if they slip by dropping points then the EPL title chase is over. And I think it's going to be a walk in the park for the gunners because of United's lengthy injury list, especially with Bruno Fernandez on the sideline. Despite United's struggles this campaign, he's been phenomenal and he's absence is going to be a big blow to the team. GD will be crucial for the Arsenal if City loses or draws against Tottenham.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I was holding on to Ledger and I got robbed on: May 11, 2024, 12:44:26 PM
That's why I never suggest anyone to go with Hardware wallets because I find them of no use and anyone who thinks their funds are safe in those wallets should re-think about that.

Are you for real mate? Hardware wallets are indeed very safe but if you fail to adhere to simple healthy wallet practices, you could lose your funds. I quite understand the security risks involved in using a ledger hardware device, but since op didn't give us much info it could be that he stored his seed phrase electronically and that's how his funds was stolen or he bought the hardware device from an unauthorized dealer.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fake website on: May 11, 2024, 12:26:11 PM
Bitcoin investment has been so good to people, but to some they got scammed because they invest in a wrong platform, and now with the way things are going scammer are alway busy creating fake website to scam people

My question is that how can someone dictate a fake website? because is getting too much, is there anyway the comonas need to know things like this if there is any.

Many fake platforms try to scam unsuspecting users by offering them mouth watering returns for investing their Bitcoin and other crypto assets with them. So whenever you see this, just run for your life and don't go closer. Bookmark important crypto websites to minimize the chances of visiting a cloned website and avoid unsolicited PMs from strangers, they're mostly scammers trying to deceive you to invest in a fake project or to lure you to visit a phishing website.
18  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Which country is wiser? on: May 10, 2024, 10:03:34 PM
Of course the Indian government dey wise pass Nigerian government. India na the number one for the world in terms of the highest number of crypto users, so many exchanges dey interested in the Indian market.

No be everything be gra gra. Nigeria sef dey number two and many exchanges also dey interested in the Nigerian market. Even if awa govt no block exchange apps from Playstore and Appstore like india. Say dem just get a round table discussion with Binance executives and ask Binance to pay a reasonable fee. Other exchanges go like come get licence too to operate in Nigeria but awa govt just rubbish themselves. Just today Binance don officially obtain a license to operate in India after Kucoin bin don obtain their own many weeks ago.

20  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where Will It Go If The Money Comes From Illegal Source on: May 10, 2024, 04:36:33 PM
Is it legal for casinos to keep the money?

If the fund is suspected to have come from an illegal origin, the account will be locked and reported to the authorities. After submitting the proof of source and investigation had been carried out, if it turns out the owner's business is legit, the funds will be unfrozen but if he's into illicit activities, the funds will be handed over to the authorities. Also, if he fails to submit the necessary documents, the funds will be handed over to the authorities.
