1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Connecting Specter to Bitcoin Core = risk? on: May 17, 2024, 10:06:40 AM
Since Bitcoin Core stores the pub key unencrypted on the computer, I wonder whether there would be a risk if I connected Specter to the Core.
You're supposed to connect your Specter wallet to a Bitcoin Core client that you own which will create a watch-only wallet that's locally stored, so I don't get the point.

Thanks for the detailed answer.

Why does sparrow write that it would pose a risk?
What could a hacker do with the pub key?

Sparrwor writes:
Unfortunately, Bitcoin Core stores your public keys and funds unencrypted on the computer that runs it. If that computer is regularly connected to the Internet, it is at risk to hackers - making you a target once your balance is discovered.
2  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Connecting Specter to Bitcoin Core = risk? on: May 16, 2024, 10:09:14 PM
Good evening,
I have a small concern.

Since Bitcoin Core stores the pub key unencrypted on the computer, I wonder whether there would be a risk if I connected Specter to the Core.
You could theoretically calculate the Prv key back if you had the pub key.
(I know, very difficult but certainly doable with a quantum computer)

What does it actually look like when you set up a multi-sig wallet at Specter?
Won't the whole thing be more difficult to calculate, or does it make no difference whether single-sig or multi-sig?

Does Bitcoin Core store the Account Extended Public Key or does it store the BIP32 Extended Public Key?

4  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: Frage bezüglich Anschaffungskosten & Werbungskosten? on: February 01, 2024, 06:37:01 PM

5  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Frage bezüglich Anschaffungskosten & Werbungskosten? on: February 01, 2024, 05:10:37 PM
Hallo liebes Forum,

You can't have big volume and decentralization with bunch of shitcoins you are allegedly holding (and I seriously doubt that).
When you trade on decentralized exchanges like dydx v4, you get your profits paid out in USDC.
Just for information!

There are thousands of trades each day on Bisq exchange with bunch of bitcoins traded all the time.
You probably never installed or used bisq in your life.
Bisq markets:
https://bisq.markets/
Bisq's daily trading volume is approximately $500,000, which is quite a low volume for an exchange

Find a better one.
Good luck.
Exch is centralized but it's probably better than most of cross-chain crap and fake-dex exchanges.
I think cross-chain swaps or Atomic Dex are far better than a centralized exchanger that has control over your money.
Good luck not getting ripped off at some point.

You are asking to many questions...
I am sure large sum whales is asking questions like this in bitcointalk forum asking for atomic swap and special exchange  Cheesy
We are in a forum where you can ask questions...
No, big whales probably exchange their funds with Binance, Kraken, Coinbase etc.
It's not for nothing that the trading volume on CEX is 2000 times bigger than bisq Cheesy
7  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [List] Atomic swap tools and exchanges for Bitcoin (work-in-progress) on: January 28, 2024, 02:20:28 PM
You can participate! If you know an atomic swap tool not included in the list, you're welcome to propose it. Only two rules: The tool or exchange must support Bitcoin and be trustless (no centralized provider, exchange participants must use their own private keys, and no centralized "exchange coin" like Binance Coin).
I think Chainflip should also be on your list.
8  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC Free Exchange from Altcoin to Bitcoin? on: January 28, 2024, 02:09:52 PM
Is something like that safe?
And how does an atomic swap work?
As far as I know, everything runs with AMM (Automatic Market Maker), and about smart contracts right?
And you have full control over it yourself?

Do you have any Atomic Swap / Cross Chain Swap providers for me?
You may visit this thread Atomic swap tools and exchanges for Bitcoin (work-in-progress)

I can't say it's safe because there are a lot case smart contract got hacked https://4irelabs.com/articles/top-17-smart-contract-hacks/

You might fully own the token because it's non custodial, you know the seed phrase and can access it at anytime. Now the next question is, are you sure the exchange is open source? anything can happen if it's closed source.

Thank you, I'll take a look at the thread Smiley

I'm basically someone who only uses open source.
9  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC Free Exchange from Altcoin to Bitcoin? on: January 28, 2024, 11:08:12 AM
Sorry guys, I know altcoin is a very broad term.

It is USDC (Erc20)
In principle, all altcoins on the Ethereum blockchain.
I would use DEX to exchange the USDC into ETH or into USDT etc

Unfortunately, the volume of Bisq is too small for me, I'm talking about larger amounts that I would like to swap in Bitcoin.

exch.cx is too risky for me, nothing against the operators, but changing such large sums to someone who has control over my coins would give me a lot of stomach ache.

Atomic swap sounds interesting.

10  Economy / Exchanges / KYC Free Exchange from Altcoin to Bitcoin? on: January 27, 2024, 12:50:03 PM
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for exchangers to change my altcoins into Bitcoin without KYC.

Do you have trustworthy sites for me?
What are the limits there?

Thanks so much
11  Other / Off-topic / Does Mica Regulation only apply to stock exchanges? on: January 23, 2024, 11:56:38 AM
Hello friends,
I have a quick question.

Does the Mica Regulation only apply to exchanges, or are wallets and DeFi such as Trezor, MetaMask, Uniswap and ThorChain also affected?

Best regards
12  Other / Off-topic / dydx USDC depeg [ IMPORTANT ] on: September 02, 2023, 08:17:51 AM
Good day,
I don’t understand one thing about dydx.

Everything is shown in USD on dydx.
But is it real USD or is that USDC that have been converted to USD

I need this information urgently as I have to do my tax return soon.
I just don’t know if I can use the USD values on dydx directly to calculate, or if I have to see the USD as USDC first and then have to change it to real USD

So:
What happens if the USDC falls from 1$ to 0.5$ ?

Example 1: ( dydx shows me USD / 1 USD = 2 USDC )
Portfolio Value = 1.000$ so this will be 2.000USDC
Position Size = 3.000$ so this will be 6.000USDC
Fee = 100$ so this will be 200USDC
Unrealized P&L = 6.000$ so this will be 12.000USDC
Realized P&L = 150$ so this will be 300USDC

Example 2: ( dydx shows me USDC as USD value / 1 USD = 1 USDC = 0,5 USD )
Portfolio Value = 1.000$ so this will be 1.000USDC ( 500$ )
Position Size = 3.000$ so this will be 3.000USDC ( 1.500$ )
Fee = 100$ so this will be 100USDC ( 50$ )
Unrealized P&L = 6.000$ so this will be 6.000USDC ( 3.000$ )
Realized P&L = 150$ so this will be 150USDC ( 75$ )
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: dydx [ income tax or capital gains tax ] on: August 26, 2023, 09:41:31 PM
In Germany, you have to pay the capital gain tax for crypto to crypto if you made profits over 600€ and realize this profit within 365 days from the original purchase. So the tax due depends on your purchasing price of BTC Since USDC is a stable coin so you can clearly find the profits you made and can claim the tax-free if it's below 600€

Crypto Taxes in Germany: Complete Guide & Instructions [2023]
No, for crypto you pay personal income tax.
But if you hold 1 year, then the gains are tax free.

Future trading with fiat would be capital gains tax, but since I am trading futures with USDC I would have to pay personal income tax.

But what about the holding period?

Example:
01.01.2023 I buy with 1000€ (1500 USDC)

I trade these USDC on the dydx exchange.

By 01/02/2024 I will make a profit of 8500 USDC with trading, so on 01/02/2024 I will have a total of 10,000 USDC.

If I convert this 10,000 USDC to Fiat on 01/02/2024, will I not pay any taxes at all?

Because:
The USDC were not converted into BTC due to perpetual trading, so the holding period is given.

The answer depends on your country of residence.

Sorry Germany
15  Other / Beginners & Help / dydx [ income tax or capital gains tax ] on: August 26, 2023, 02:01:47 PM
Good day to all readers,
I have a question regarding the taxation of dydx wins.

On dydx, trading is only perpetual, so the capital gain tax would apply.
However, the problem is that you are not trading in fiat, but in USDC which is a cryptocurrency.

Is there now income tax due to cryptocurrency?
Or does the capital gain tax fall because of Perpetual? (since you buy the USDC with Fiat)
16  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are these BTC-Swaps legit ? on: August 15, 2023, 02:43:19 PM
AtomicDEX is true DEX, trades are on chain with atomic swap on native coins.  it provides a light wallet (komodo wallet is electrum server light wallet tech based). It mainly support UTXO coins, but add BNB and ETH recently.   Pros:  coins supported are large, almost all the coins are supported including many bitcoin clones, trading fees are low as KMD and many altcoin transactions fees are low. Cons: liquidity and trading volume is low.    This DEX is mainly for small retail traders.

Thorchain:   another true DEX that support bitcoin litecoin doge ETH and stable coins,  on chain native coin trading, not wrapped coins.  Pro:  native UTXO coins trading including BTC.  this DEX has liquidity and large trading volume.  This should works well for large volume trading.  Con:  on chain tradings,  fees could be large if the trading is on small volume.  Many altcoin small volume retail trading might be better off with AtomicDEX instead.

How do you know if it's a real dex or not?

thought it was all dexes
17  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are these BTC-Swaps legit ? on: August 12, 2023, 11:39:33 PM
Low liquidity aside, most instant swap services that I know of would support multiple blockchains (coins) since it is necessary if you want to attract interest from users. I doubt a majority of users would be okay with trading wrapped tokens on the BNB chain since it can inconvenience them if they plan to trade on other exchanges.

I'm not familiar with any of the services you listed, but I second the suggestion to avoid them if all they offer is trading-wrapped tokens. I used Changelly and Changehero in the past, although their KYC is probably the biggest con if you want to protect your privacy.
you can change your eth to btc (native), why is it bad if they also offer wrapped tokens?
Uniswap and all the other dexes do that too.

what you mean by legal, if you meant that it has a license to manage a financial activity, I don't think it. they claim to be decentralized However, they are exchanges that do not require KYC and may be closer to the idea of bridges between two blockchains.
I didn't mean if these sites are legal, I meant if they are legit (if these sites can be trusted)

Well, most of them have been crossed off my list.
-atomicdex.io = the coin looks dead to me, liquidity is dead too
-transit.finance = they use swft.pro as an exchange, that makes me suspicious, they dont have a pool or proof of reserve and i dont trust blind
-rhino.fi = Only wrapped BTC possible
-rubic.exchange = they use Thorchain
-rango.exchange = they use Changenow ( They have scammed before ) ( i dont trust blind )
-defispot.com = they use Thorchain

Thorchain is still in my list, the operators are very transparent in everything they do, the liquidity is also great, the Rune Coin also seems to be strong.
And there are some strong companys who work with them.

Chainflip stays on my list as well, the project looks promising, it hasn't started yet but 20 million has already been raised.
And there are also some strong companys who work with them.
They will probably be a good competitor to Thorchain, and competition stimulates the market.

do you maybe have other options to exchange eth for btc without kyc?
Do you know any other cross chain swaps that are legit like Thorchain?

I'm also unsure if i should use exchanges like Changenow or Fixflot, what do you think?
18  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are these Swaps legit ? on: August 11, 2023, 09:29:10 PM
Most of the exchange is a dex or chainswap from a blockchain that is not that popular or with low liquidity.

It's good that it's DEX.
They move with the times and the future will be decentralized.

To be honest, I can't understand why you say that they use blockchains that is not popular or with low liquidity.

atomicdex.io = BNB Chain
thorchain.org = BNB Chain
rango.exchange = they use thorchain ( BNB Chain )
defispot.com = they use thorchain ( BNB Chain )
rubic.exchange = ETH Chain
rhino.fi = ETH Chain
chainflip.io = ETH Chain
transit.finance = BNB Chain
19  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Are these Swaps legit ? on: August 11, 2023, 04:32:55 PM
If you are not sure about the services above, you should be able to use swap services that are more secure, such as Pancakeswap, 1inch, or Biswap, because I have used these swap services and I can say that these services are secure, fast and easy for users to use.

These sites are pretty new and risky to use. I'd never know or have an experience with any of them but just PancakeSwap.

Some of these sites have been around for a while, and some have a decent roadmap.
They also own tokens and have a ton of followers on Twitter.

Unfortunately, no BTC swaps are possible with Pancake or 1inch.

Before taking any decision on anything, first make your own research about them, these are uncommon swaps and i don't know where and how you come up with them altogether, my advice is if you think you can't risk loosing your crypto assets, make use of the ones you're very familiar with which were also common, lastly, your thread should be on altcoins discussions or exchanges, i recommend you move the thread right before the moderators does that for you.

Of course I also informed myself, but I would like to get more information here in the forum.

But it is not an Altcoin topic, you can swap Bitcoin with these swaps
20  Economy / Exchanges / Are these BTC-Swaps legit ? on: August 11, 2023, 03:24:22 PM
Good day,
I have a question for you.

Are these cross chain swaps legit?
-atomicdex.io
-transit.finance
-rhino.fi
-thorchain.org
-rubic.exchange
-rango.exchange
-defispot.com
-chainflip.io

Do you have experience with some of these swaps?
Are there any that I should avoid?

Thank you
