1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Desperately need advice on putting 7990's to best use. on: July 18, 2014, 03:11:03 AM
Nevermind, I looked over something incredibly stupid: the port number. I didn't change it when I went from x13 to x11. x11 is now working and giving me 4Mhs. My problem is now heat. Why are people lauding x11 for its reduced heat? I'm seeing more or less the same temps as on x13. I have 5 rigs with 2 cards in each rig and 1 'core' in each seems to want to go to 97-99c. The other 3 'cores' stay at around 75c, 65c, 65c. Any ideas for reducing heat and not losing too much performance?

To my knowledge X11 and X13 jump around in profitability, one day X11 is better the next X13 so really just pick one and in the long run the results would probably have been the same.

There are a few pools now that use sgminer 5 which can automatically change algorithm for you to the most profitable but you should probably try and get them working efficiently before thinking about that.

You might be getting slightly confused about hash rates for x13 8mhs would only be possible with a very hefty overclock.
For my 280x's (same as 7970) with around 1100 Core clock (slight undervolt) and low memory clock i get ~3mhs each so you would be looking at more like 6-7mhs depending on how high you clock them.

Also i will offer some advice that if performance per watt matters (you said not for you) i found increasing memory clock does improve hashrate but it's not normally worth the extra power/heat.

I actually found x11/x13 mining much easier to set-up than scrypt mining, there is no voodoo of getting the right clock speed/and Thread concurrency. It just worked on pretty much the default settings and any increase's in clock or memory clock are linear improvements in hashrate.

My sgminer 5 .bat for my 3 card rig:

sgminer --auto-fan --temp-target 66 -g 4 -w 64 -X 256 --gpu-engine 1063,1119,1113 --hamsi-expand-big 1 --algorithm marucoin-mod

only running at 800 Mem clock right now mainly due to it being Hot atm and that it is better Hash per watt.

Really crashes, HW ect probably just means your clocks are too high, just try lowering your core clock abit more and it will probably be ok :X

I've got it running at over 3Mhs on x13 stable for about 10 mins, haven't done long-term testing. I think I might abandon x13 and use x11 though if it's better for heat because it's getting HOT without having them undervolted anymore. 1 card on each rig is almost to 99c, room temp getting to 93f even at night. The problem is that with x11 I'm getting 100% rejected shares for "low difficulty shares". Any idea what's wrong? I tried using the same settings that work perfectly with x13, no luck. Now I'm trying a million other combos with no success.

(you have the right miner) ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=658975.msg7412560#msg7412560 )

Delete the Bin files.

Edit the 280x bat config file.

For x11. try something like:

sgminer.exe -o <your ppool> --pool-algorithm darkcoin-mod -u <user> -p <password> -I 17 -g 4 -w 64

Important to use 14.6 drivers.

a 7970 should manage these clock settings:

sgminer.exe -o <your ppool> --pool-algorithm darkcoin-mod -u <user> -p <password> -I 17 -g 4 -w 64 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1100

With this setting I get 4465 khash on a MSI twinforce 280x, and above 4100 on a sappshire 7970

You can also try to add -i to 18 or 19.

What 280x bat config file are you talking about?

I'm trying to mine on x13 since it looks more profitable. (am I wrong about this?) Wafflepool showed 550% profitability yesterday over LTC, while x11 only showed 250%. Today, it's a little more even with x13 showing 305% vs 257%. Which would you recommend??

I tried 1100 gpuengine at 17 intensity and it would only hash for 5-10 min before a driver crash occurred.

Is a really low worker rate better? Wafflepool was recommending a minimum of 256 for my card.

I finally got it to work using this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=658975.msg7412560#msg7412560

The problem is that I'm only getting 5Mhs per 7990(a 7990 is 2 7970s). If there's anyone out there that can get me 8Mhs per 7990 I'd tip them very generously.

What's your OS? Which algorithm do you want to mine? Your link mentiones X11 not X13.

My rig with Xubuntu 13.10 64bit, Catalyst 14.6 Beta, SGMiner 5, 8 GB Ram:
R9 290 Scrypt = 905 kHs, 350 Watt
R9 290 X11 = 4600 kHs, 220 Watt
R9 290 X13 = 3500 kHs, 225 Watt
R9 290 X15 = 3000 kHs, 225 Watt

Sorry, I'll give more info. I'm trying to run with x13. I'm on Windows 7. I have between 4-8GB in each rig; I've never seen a difference in terms of memory for mining though, truth be told. My GPUs are XFX 7990 Triple D's(not crappy hashers like most XFX). The miner I'm using is the one I linked, I believe it's sgminer 4.1 with the x11/x13 mod. I'm using a variety of drivers testing which delivers the best stability; drivers I'm using are 14.4, 14.6 and 14.7. None of them go over 2.65Mhs per 7970. Since I have so many and I pay no electric, even a little bit of performance makes a difference.

Download catalyst 14.6 beta

Download the sgminer binaries at:

http://cryptomining-blog.com/3085-updated-windows-binary-for-the-new-sgminer-5-0-beta-miner-software

Experiment with settings.

A 7990 should do around 8mhash in x13 mining. The 7950 above 3mhash .

https://www.nicehash.com is currently paying :

X13    1.1212 BTC/GH/Day

Your rigs should do around 100mhashes per day in x13(when configured correctly) with 50% power usage compared to scrypt mining.

You earn 0.1212 Btc /day

I've been trying to get x13 working all day and I'm very frustrated. When I'm not getting restarts, the GPU is either sick or full of HW errors and no submits. I've been googling a ton of different configs but none seem to work. I've tried so many different combos it's ridiculous. Different catalyst drivers/combos. I haven't even started on the 7950's yet. Still haven't been to bed yet... up all night doing this. Any ideas what's going on? Or of a config that can get me 8mhash?

I have 10 XFX 7990's and 6 Sapphire 7950's that I've been using on middlecoin for the last 7 months. Profits have turned to absolute crap and I really should have been looking for alternatives a long time ago. I'm just now starting to read up about scrypt-n, x11, x13, x15... but the information is really conflicting and confusing so far. I really need someone who is knowledgeable on the subject to point me in the right direction/give me some insight. Something important to note is that I do not have to pay for power, but I have 6 separate rigs in one 125sqft room, so heat could be somewhat of a factor. I currently have all of my cards undervolted for heat management.
