There are literally thousands of people mining bitcoin on ESP32 devices knowing the chances of mining a block are just about 0. It's just about having fun and education.

I disagree it sounds hollow, public-pool is one of only a few mining pools that you can actually audit and run the code yourself. Secondly the code is proven to mine testnet blocks. Testnet is there specifically for the purpose of testing software for mainnet.

I have been working with Open Source Miners United on the Bitaxe project as well as Bitmaker and Nerdminers. We had determined that a new solo pool that is super easy to setup and run for yourself would be a great contribution to the community. There is the official site https://web.public-pool.io but I encourage people to download and run it for themselves. It comes with both the stratum server and GUI. All the source is completely open and I welcome any contributions https://github.com/benjamin-wilson/public-pool .

The official site runs off hardware that I have physical control over and only the GUI relies on cloud infrastructure.

People have taken it and made a few derivatives such as vkbit.com and www.nerdminers.de.

I have been working with Open Source Miners United on the Bitaxe project as well as Bitmaker and Nerdminers. I am currently hosting a small competition for nerdminers and so far we have over 2000 participating.

The project is very young and nobody has mined any mainnet blocks but I have successfully mined testnet blocks.

While you can't verify vkbit is running the published source code you can verify the Coinbase transaction being sent to your miners and I have helped them get it deployed.
