1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I just created an easier way to get paid in crypto! on: November 21, 2018, 02:40:58 AM
This is a recipe for disaster. The only thing that lessens it is that few people donate through static addresses posted somewhere. If you could prove that you displayed the requested address to each and every user, then you have something. Otherwise it's scam city.

Some public proof is warranted here. Why make claims if you can't back them up?
3  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: The Enteleca Marketplace on: November 21, 2018, 02:32:25 AM
Tell us more about the platform. It sounds like another ecommerce site. Where's the special blockchain sauce? Is it decentralized? Does your plan include airdrops or perhaps an ICO?
4  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTCPay / bisq integration on: November 20, 2018, 04:49:23 PM
Isn't it better for merchants to hodl and pay forward rather than make it so easy for our BTC to be liquidated? They can always go to a market like bisq if they feel over-exposed.
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: $GBTC Speculation, Information, and Cogitation on: June 11, 2015, 12:19:00 AM
GBTC was just another hype shit that didn't even work, this market is collapsing, nobody wants to get in at these prices.
Now, now. GBTC seems to have settled at around $29. If there's any reason to believe GBTC should trade at a premium, then this might reflect that. Of course, I'm still waiting for a rise in Bitcoin proper with a corresponding rise in GBTC with significant volume to confirm. It's really too early to draw conclusions. But, yes it was a bit hyped.
6  Economy / Speculation / Re: $GBTC Speculation, Information, and Cogitation on: June 05, 2015, 04:10:28 AM
Price of GBTC continues to slide toward Bitcoin proper on low volume. I couldn't buy with my Roth through sharebuilder. Anyone have any luck purchasing in any sort of tax advantaged account?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Venture Capital is going to pump the living shit out of Bitcoin. on: June 04, 2015, 04:01:32 AM
It's all about how to deploy capital. Venture Capital deploys capital to build companies because it's what they know best makes them money. When it comes time for their holdings to be appraised and sold, that's when they may find a relatively small investment in the underlying asset, which Bitcoin companies values are largely based on, is the best way to make them more money. Is Coinbase worth more when Bitcoin is a $50B market cap or $500B market cap? How many $$ actually have to flow into Bitcoin to affect that change in market cap?

Thanks for liking the title. I've been thinking about it for a week.
8  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Advice for investing bitcoin on: June 03, 2015, 09:03:38 AM
Whenever people are promising some kind of guaranteed return or the investment just doesn't make sense, hold off.

For example lots of ponzis guaranteed a certain percentage of return per week which is simply unsustainable knowing any kind of exponential math. Then you have to think from the perspective of the other party. If they could make money without you (cloud mining and mining contracts), why do they want you involved?

If those any of that doesn't pass the smell test, move along.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Venture Capital is going to pump the living shit out of Bitcoin. on: June 03, 2015, 08:54:52 AM
BTW, I'm editing this. It's a bit wordy at the end.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Venture Capital is going to pump the living shit out of Bitcoin. on: June 03, 2015, 08:53:30 AM
You'd make a good cheerleader.  How do you look in a dress?

Probably not great. I could work out though if you promise to love this thread.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Venture Capital is going to pump the living shit out of Bitcoin. on: June 03, 2015, 08:30:17 AM
All those VC investments you see? All that money pouring into bitcoin or Bitcoin or the blockchain? All those captains of industry vying to maintain their dominance?

That money.

It's going to react when shit gets hot. It's going to warm as opportunities arise. It's going to motherfucking explode when the time comes for profits to be taken.

It is clear to me now. Venture Capitalists are going to pump the living shit out of Bitcoin when the time comes for their exit.

-That is all. Please grab a snack at the back. You had a question? A comment?
12  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin points of massive price movement on: June 03, 2015, 04:39:18 AM
This thread is making me bullish. OP asks for upper and lower prices that would signal further movement in either direction and 95% of the posts are about the lower price. I don't think we're going much lower but I would call $150 an important level on the low end. On the higher end, I think we get to $400 or $500 before the public notices again. Hysteria starts 10-20% above the previous ATH.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: $GBTC Speculation, Information, and Cogitation on: May 12, 2015, 09:31:26 PM
I'm legitimately surprised exchange prices arnt rising with these steady gbtc prices.

Don't be so surprised. Clue: 228.6 pseudo-BTC total volume for today.

Though liquidity is low, we haven't had any sort of interesting price move in BTC since it launched. A small rise, yes, but we'll probably only gain new information about how well connected GBTC is to BTC with something like a 5-10% price move.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: The $GBTC Wall Observer on: May 11, 2015, 06:46:13 PM
Some people would prefer not to pay taxes if given the choice, but you are correct with this thinking and that is why the premium is most likely a reflection of the tax rate of it's buyers with a little boost for those who are ignorant and hit buy without researching.  This is something I wasn't expecting, and if it holds true for COIN, things could get interesting, particularly for the ones who bought all the BTC for the fund.  It's starting to make sense now why the Winks didn't bat an eyelash at selling $1,000 BTC.  They're going to make an absolute killing on premiums and maintenance fees.  It's actually scary how rich they would become if BTC is truly successful in the long term.

If COIN can achieve top brand status, they could very well make a killing. I'm not sure if it'll be socially on par with building a Facebook but it could end up more profitable in the long-term. The tax thing is likely a huge motivator. If you're paying capital gains of 15% or more if short term or in a greedy state, the price doesn't have to rise that much (in Bitcoin historical terms) for it to end up profitable versus buying BTC.

The trading experience is unique or maybe it isn't but others can confirm if they're seeing the same thing. My first trade went for more than I asked for though it was a small quantity limit order. The second was big enough but doesn't seem to have shown up all that clearly in the volume. Though I figured out who my orders would show up as, it seems they are only provided in aggregate with whoever is trying to trade through them and if I'm not the best bid or ask, my order is hidden.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: whats the most creative way of keeping bitcoins in cold storage on: March 12, 2015, 08:05:23 PM
From the other thread, this seems pretty cool and durable, if a bit pricey. $150+$8 per foot of tape. Not sure what the works out to per bip38 encrypted private key.

This makes tags for really harsh environments like pipelines, so it should do for permanent code storage including cases like fire and flooding.  Not sure if they do lower case but if not just put a slash in front of the char that is going to be lower case.

I'm going to get one and try it out.

16  Economy / Speculation / Re: And this, ladies and gentlebears, is why we like the WSJ on: March 11, 2015, 11:39:02 PM
This is a great example but the WSJ can do a hit piece too if they get a wild hair. CNBC has had positive articles. Point is, I wouldn't go buying WSJcoin just yet.
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: It is always too late on: March 11, 2015, 09:48:19 AM
They don't if it's really an investment, which is basically defined as loaning somebody who does something productive money for interest. Out of it comes something of value, a product, a service, knowledge or information.
That doesn't happen with Bitcoin because the mtoney you used to buy Bitcoins goes to another person who doesn't use that money to earn something for you. That's why it's called speculating and that's why this board is called as such. We are speculators not investors.

You are basically correct. Investing is buying capital goods and labour with the purpose of producing someting that is useful to others (of course speculating that it is useful to others when it is offered some time in the future).

Buying bitcoin is speculating that others will demand it for a higher price in the market in the future. It is speculating also if you do not expect a higher price in the future, even when you expect a lower price. (When you demand dollars for the work you offer, you speculate that someone in the future will demand those dollars for a price not less than 2 percent lower than the current price... that is the dollar price inflation expectation). This is always so with money: any demand you have for money, is speculation that others will demand it in the future.

Speculation is acting on your foresight, based upon all your wisdom.

Just to add to this, buying bitcoin is somewhat similar to the case of loaning someone money. By holding, you support the price and allow others who see an even greater opportunity for profit than bitcoin cash out a little bit. Holding also adds to the potential liquidity enabling larger transactions to work their way through the system without changing prices as much.

Pure gold. Any bets on when Bitcoin makes it into the DSM-IV?
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HODL, HOARD your cypto GOLD! All Hail the Hoarders! on: February 09, 2015, 08:08:33 PM
To the people advising buy and hold at this point : YOU MAKE ME FUCKING SICK - physically fucking ill ...
That ill feeling comes from not owning as many BTC as you'd like. I don't see how God would send those of us who are supporting internet freedom money by holding, to hell.

You have missed the point. The point being made here is: Holding bitcoins is not supporting it. Using bitcoins is supporting it.
That may be the point of many responses here, but it is not the point of the OP. If you want to scream, "Create more sending transactions!" from the mountain top, then by all means create a new thread and see where it goes.
