1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Is stealing bitcoins illegal? on: October 11, 2014, 02:41:30 PM
For example, if I mislead someone into sending me a large amount of bitcoins (in the United States) would that be illegal?

If I did not force them to do anything, but they sent them anticipating me to send a product in return, but I never send it.

Would this be considered illegal considering no one would know whether the bitcoin address that received the bitcoins was my address?

3  Economy / Computer hardware / Custom FPGA Board for sale on: August 31, 2014, 09:40:38 PM
I have been working with 2 other members of the bitcoin community to develop a custom FPGA mining board. Our goal was a quiet, efficient, highly profitable platform for bitcoin mining… with a much lower pricetag than previous FPGA boards.

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Flh4.ggpht.com%2F-X9trDy0Z9IE%2FTk0rIrKkSKI%2FAAAAAAAAAYM%2FlVss4ZKsCcM%2FIMG_1077_thumb.jpg%3Fimgmax%3D800&t=543&c=eAIycKOMBPpNqw

We have made and tested a prototype with pool mining. With the most recent program it gets 100 MHash/s and uses 6.8W of power. In the future we expect incremental improvements to the mining speed due to better software. You can see from the Mining Hardware Comparison that our custom board is far better than the commercial FPGA alternatives in terms of $/Mhash.

The primary members of this FPGA team were:
fpgaminer, USA, Engineer
li_gangyi, Singapore, Electronics Hobbyist
newMeat1, USA, Engineer

We also want to thank makomk for his contributions to optimizing the code and NF6X for his advice on communication interfaces. It is a testament to the global nature of the bitcoin community that we were able to bring together such great talent from across the world.

Check out Li’s blog on the development of the board for more pictures!

We have 4 boards for sale at this moment. The cost is $440, to be paid in BTC. Shipping costs will be added. We do international shipping—please message me if interested and we’ll work out the details. Up-front payment is required to cover our hardware costs. The boards will ship within 7 days after receipt of payment.

In the next few weeks, we will be putting together a bulk order, so don’t worry much if you miss out on this initial batch.

What do you need to run these boards on your computer?
•   An open USB port
•   An open 4-pin Molex power connector. Most computers have an extra one or two of these inside (my PC has 4!)

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.bit-tech.net%2Fcontent_images%2F2008%2F04%2Fthermaltake_toughpower_1500w_w0171_psu%2Fmolex-8.jpg&t=543&c=OHX5IQzTiFONgA

•   Download and install Xilinx's free ISE software, here
•   A Xilinx Platform Cable- we recommend eBay to get it cheap
•   Operating system: Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS and SUSE Linux Enterprise are supported
o   Other versions of Linux may work, but no guarantees

We'll be posting a walk-through soon about how to set up the board. If you got the bitcoin client running, you shouldn’t have any problems setting up the FPGA board

السلام عليكم

I would like to borrow .5 bitcoin, I would pay you back within 1 week

The reason for this loan is, I'm trying to help my mother pay for the bills, her husband (my stepdad) and her have recently broken up (not complaining, he was a pretty abusive guy). I don't have a job at the moment, but I'm selling my Playstation and laptops to earn money back. I know that this probably doesn't mean much to you, and I'm a new user to this website also, so it's slightly hard to trust me. I wish I found out about bitcoin talk sooner, but I'm pretty new to the bitcoin scene in general. I used to sell things on eBay, game accounts and stuff that I didn't need, but my eBay account recently got closed due to a false chargeback on an expensive item. At this time, I'm cheated out of a good $800, have no job to supply myself, and am trying to help my mother who is lacking the funds necessary. I know there is no good reason to trust me at all, because of my short history with this website, but I can assure you, from the deepest spot in my heart, that I will get the money that you loan me (if you lend me money) back to you in one week time.

Like I said, I have not that much history on bitcointalk, I'll be honest. But I'm sorry for that, I honestly wish I could have picked up on bitcoin earlier. I definitely plan on staying in the community and trying to be the best person that I can be. I'm sorry for the emotional-ness of this post, but it would be absolutely wonderful if you could lend me.

Inshallah

Well an internship. I got a lot of gifts from google, bracelets etc. they give their interns a very good discount on their products, so I figured I would stock up and sell them on eBay. eBay account got closed, and I can't wait 21 days to get my money from a new account.

I got the chromebooks as a gift from a job I used to have.

I have had three successful trades so far on here, I can be trusted

9  Economy / Lending / Re: Anyone willing to lend a hand? Need .5 bitcoin on: August 31, 2014, 06:22:37 PM
Yes, and assuming you got the loan, which option would you pick?

Option 1 of course
10  Economy / Lending / Re: Anyone willing to lend a hand? Need .5 bitcoin on: August 31, 2014, 06:14:37 PM
Isaac,

Given your situation, and forced to choose between two options, which would you pick:

Option 1: Repay a $250 debt.
Option 2: Do not have to repay $250 debt, so long as you agree to stop logging into a certain account on some internet message forum. You can, of course, create a different account on said forum though.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I'd like to hear it directly from you.

I am sincerely asking for a loan

Im SO sorry, the 360 second rule is VERY painful.

Yeah, the closed one is the one with all the positive feedback (100+ makes selling much much easier than a zero feedback account). And, I just made a new paypal account, i think its all good as long as its not the same paypal account with the ebay account.

I would convert the BTC to cash using local bitcoins and then convert the paypal to btc using virwox (I know theres a lot of fees but, I'll make enough money to cover them.
12  Economy / Lending / Re: Anyone willing to lend a hand? Need .5 bitcoin on: August 31, 2014, 05:26:53 PM
If you could lend me .5 bitcoin to use

Then I would Sell my stuff on eBay (listed as 3 day auction)

Paypal holds my funds for 2 weeks since I'm a new user so after I sell what I need to sell, I buy bitcoins with that money and send them back to you + rate

~2 weeks if you would be willing

(Selling chromebooks and Playstation if you'd wanna know)
13  Economy / Lending / Re: Anyone willing to lend a hand? Need .5 bitcoin on: August 31, 2014, 05:06:11 PM
Yeah, eBay puts a hold on all the funds you get from selling stuff from a new account ):

I guess I would have to sell the bitcoin, and then sell things and wait for eBay to give me the money
to buy more bitcoin to pay you back
14  Economy / Lending / Re: Anyone willing to lend .5 btc on: August 31, 2014, 04:59:54 PM
I can send a brand new pair of shoes, tv screen, have some books as collateral anything

Hey all, I would like to borrow .5 bitcoin, I would pay you back within 1 week, and give 10% interest

The reason for this loan is, I'm trying to help my mother pay for the bills, her husband (my stepdad) and her have recently broken up (not complaining, he was a pretty abusive guy). I don't have a job at the moment, but I'm selling my Playstation and laptops to earn money back. Thanks either way, I know collateral is important but I'm not sure what to use
