Basically this is a complete failure of politicians/government.

They need their own teaparty there.

Seems like a very silly (read, real world politician-inspired) approach. If bitcoins are worth spending they will be spent. If they aren't worth spending, no pledge is worth anything.

But when you're done helping BTCs by pledging, maybe you and the 1000 people will pledge to being healthy. If I were mean I might have proposed being unaffected by gravity.

This seems like a rather silly and impractical way to make friends.

One question I have been asked : how do you handle the accounting ? You need to take goods off the books, do you mark them as sold ? Gifts/promotional material ?

I would guess the price of bitcoins in any given week is approximately twenty dollars for each person that heard of bitcoin that week divided by twice the amt of bitcoin mined that week.
