1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] New Piggycoin (PIGGY) | EasySend on: October 02, 2014, 03:19:36 AM
Wider adoption seems to be a worthwhile goal going forward...

It caters to a huge niche. And people are not heditant to invest in something that will teach their children practicalities.

If the devs are easily available for interviews someone could offer access to them with any of a number of sites. "Dear Smartkid.com, there is a cryptocurrency designed to teach kids about altcoins. The developers would be happy to answer any questions you or your readers might have... etc". I don't know if smartkid.com is really a website.

bitfreak, but they are right about marketing. Not a lot people are aware of cryptonite right now, and the name of this coin makes people confused too.
Quotedfor emphasis!

bolded for double emphasis

The cryptonote algo raises suspicions among a lot of people. To give another coin almost the same name and ticker symbol seems like a mistake. Like naming a new sleep aid "Thalidomed". Probably not too many will buy based on the name until the distinction is clear and people know they are not both the same thing.

But the mini blockchain and willingness to take bigger innovative steps will overcome the handicap of a bad name. There only needs to be one positive article on a respected site that emphasizes the benefits of a small blockchain. Then blastoff.

Another point about marketing. If you are selling a car that looks like shit and gets two miles per gallon you must focus on marketing. But if you come out with a car that looks okay and gets fifty miles per gallon you need to focus on patience. Marketing will take care of itself. If someone sees an opportunity to emphasize that a coin exists now with a reasonably sized blockchain then mention it. No sensible person would ignore the first coin with a blockchain that can be downloaded in minutes instead of days.

A basic question. When you back up a wallet you are only backing up addresses that have been used already, is that correct? In other words the wallet does not start out with any addresses and each time coins are received, if you generate a receiving address, you need to create a new backup?

[...]
Since transactions don't have inputs and outputs which link together like in other altcoins, there is no reason to store old Cryptonite transactions. ALL transactions can be forgotten after some period of time (it's a week in Cryptonite), there is no reason we'll ever need to go back and find unspent outputs, because in some sense all Cryptonite transactions instantly become "spent" after they are applied to the balance sheet / account tree.

Is there some chance of a sort of 51% attack in that? Could someone with lots of computers convince the network to accept a new version of the account balance tree?

That must be the person refered to in the faqs https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=713538.msg8196634#msg8196634

But since the tiniest percentage of coins were created early, the opposite of instamine I guess, that person has to keep mining/buying heavily to stay on top.

perhaps if bitfreak could talk to moolah @ mintpal and get in on the exchange, since he is accepting genuinely innovative coins. or everyone tweet @moolah_io and @MintpalExchange

this exchange would bring alot of volume and almost guarantee the great success of cryptonite!

lets do this!

mintpal v2 is to be released tomorrow night.

Between bter and poloniex there are more than 11btc of buy orders above 600.

If any more buyers show up something is probably going to break.

This is like when you are walking on a rural traintrack and you feel a rumble.

Ok block explorer is complete: https://github.com/MiniblockchainProject/MiniExplorer

Keep in mind that you will need the full blockchain for it to work properly. I have uploaded a copy of the blockchain here (it should contain all blocks up to about 85150). The other thing to keep in mind is that it will take quite some time to process the blockchain the first time you run parse_txs.php. I have uploaded some pre-processed db files here. Extract those files into the db folder before you run parse_txs.php. The explorer doesn't have an API yet but I plan to add one. I think we have a VPS server that we can run the explorer on but I would appreciate it if someone else could also run a Cryptonite block explorer.

I have a hosting account with regular websites but am not a tech person and do not know any code stuff. Is it practical for me to consider trying to put it on my host or is it something that requires tech knowledge?

We are trying to support the XCN community by removing all sell orders for less than 2k satoshi's
This is very possible for us to drive up the price of XCN & get more smart people on board.

Type 1 if you agree!

That is not 'supporting the xcn community'.

That is trying to use scam techniques to pump the coin.

xcn is one of the few coins that will probably do very well without any tricky shit.
It is very cheap right now.

Instead of using scammish doucheries to pump it why not let the market work?

If you want to run a scam there are lots of coins out there you can try to make a quick buck on.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BTG BitGem 0.4.9.ALPHA1 | FIRST CRYPTO-CURRENCY TRADING COLORED COINS on: September 21, 2014, 07:28:27 PM
where is dev?

no projects for the coin ?

need relauch i think

I dont think Bitgem needs a relaunch. Seems to me like this is minerals pet project that he pops in and works on from time to time. Your of course welcome to fork the source and make your own. But I think its best to leave Mineral to complete his project in his timeframe

+1

looks like a reliably, steadily maintained coin

one of the earlier ones

very creative idea

worth noting too that there are <30,000 btg
also, the peak price occurred well after the peak for most coins

website's English needs to be cleaned up and maybe the concept clarified but this looks like a better coin

Is there a working Galaxy wallet that has been updated recently?
