Eth is trying to move in on our territory!  Wink

In all seriousness though, the story in the link I just posted is right up there with Energycoin's goal. I would love to see us be used in such transactions. Hell, if I could pay my neighbor next door for his extra electrons with Energy, I would so do it.

I understand Energy is kinda far off from this type of transaction at this point but probably more because we arnt grabbing attention rather then having any real technical limitation.

Hello.

ROKOS is fully synched and now staking per the old rules one last time.

Hardfork is comming  Smiley

The best forks are hard. Just imagine eating your steak with a soft fork. Yeah, that didn't look good in the minds eye, did it?  Smiley

Not a problem at all, I am glad i could help. The Pi can drive you crazy waiting to sync a full chain, so, if anything I did helped I could not be happier.

It is alive! Well, almost. I have to find a place to keep my Pi that my 6 cats wont get to. They would kill the poor pi if i left it out.

If you use ROKOS with an Ethernet cable you should have no problems at all with your connection. However, you may find a situation where your using a Wifi dongle and you are successful in getting it to connect but you can not go any place on the net or use your wallet. This is how I fixed it.

1.Sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces ( in terminal )

2.You should see a few lines of configuration already there. At the top of those lines of configuration add: auto wlan0

3. find iface wlan0 inet manual and change manual to dhcp.

4. At this point you may pres cont X and it will ask you if you want to save changes. Type y and restart.

BAM! you should now be good to go.

Also note that when your wallet is syncing you may lose control of your mouse. This seems to be not a big issue as it comes back. You may have mouse problems until the wallet is running for a min or 2 and everything settles down.

Got ROKOS up and running with very few problems. I simply copied my Energycoin folder over to ROKOS and thus had very very small wait time to sync the wallet. I will post pics later.

For those of you who use ROKOS, I did run into a problem getting it online with WIFI. The problem is in the network configuration file. You have to change the wlan0 manual to DHCP. I do not have the time to post instructions on what I did, but most likely will in about 2 hours.

All, in all though, the installation was not a big problem.

In Windows Vista and up, you can do what are known as 'Symbolic' links. Basically, it lets you put a directory any place on your local computer or network and still have that folder operate as if it where, say, on C:\. This was put in to Windows in no small part to let you assign a folder or application to another drive when the application it's self did not have the option of being put any place else other then C:

I tend not to use Symbolic linking because I believe that it's something extra that can go wrong in certain cases and I don't wish to have the head ache. However, the few times I had to use it, it went off with no issues at all.   If you would like to try symbolic linking, you'll have to look it up because I forgot how. It's simply been years since I used it.

I have 2 wishes for Energy coin right now.

 1. I would like to see Energycoin be able to be exchanged directly for dollars or Nubits ( Also Pounds and Euros ).

 2. I would like to be able to chose the drive and directory the blockchain resides in. The storage on my network tends to be diffuse With Pcs and NAS comprising most of my storage. It would be a good thing to be able to change the chain location in the event that I start having space problems on the Pi2 and need more time to do an upgrade. This would also minimize downtime for my node.

It should be noted that my first wish is mostly targeted at the Energycoin foundation or Energycoin users. I would like for us to be under control of the trade of the coin and not have to rely only on the exchanges.

Hello Harcon.,

Thanks for your comments. I agree with you. Smiley

1. I guess the first question should be which exchange(s) you think that have enough trustworthy and volume after Cryptsy is gone. Do you have any preference in your mind?

2. You can already run EnergyCoin Core within any directory you like.

Firstly, move energycoin-qt and all database/wallet files to any new directory.

Within this directory, run in linux shell:

Code:
./energycoin-qt -datadir=./

Peter
Thank you for telling me where to find the directory assignment. It will be very well used.. As far as my exchange idea. Well, What I would like to see is the community or people in the Energy coin community setup a mini exchange where the purpose is to let people buy and sell Energycoin without the need to go to a dedicated exchange.

The idea is not to replace the exchanges Energycoin is on, just offer a more direct rout for people to buy Energycoins right from the community or the foundation or both. It would be a good way to make sure that access to buying and selling energy is not affected by exchange problems or delisting, should that be a future issue for the coin.

I am looking into setting up a small exchange dedicated to Energycoin swaps, but I face a liquidity problem, so, that would have to be worked out.

STT, I am a bit confused. Are you not syncing at all or are you saying you put the bootstrap in and its still syncing? It is normal for the Bootstrap to have at least some sync time because it's not a living file ( it is not updated on the fly ) So, it would be normal to have to sync from the point the boot strap is created.

BTW, Is it my imagination, or is coindesk starting to run only Blockchain articles? At this rate might as well call it chaindesk.

Any ETA on ROKOS Flavors? I realize they have their own site and thread but I am wondering if anyone has any info cuz Im to lazy to look.

It is only your imagination, seems you're a bit paranoid.  Smiley

@ontopic I'm having a trouble syncing, it's too slow and stuck at around May last year. Do you have a downloadable blk file available?

Let us know when you know how we can compile it ourselves  Cool

It's never good to trust too much something already compiled.

I can see why you would say that. That is why I tend to watch very carefully what I install. I can see both the calls it makes to the hardware and monitor what connections an app/ program makes. On the bright side, I have yet to install anything that was doing none advertised stuff on the system or online but maybe Im lucky.

Development of my own in house OS starts the middle of the year, so, at that point I will be compiling everything. I am alarmed by the possibility that absolutely everything will become cloud based, so I am developing a closed system to be used only by me.

This might clue you in. I just don't know if it's something you can fix.

Yes, I am looking forward to the Pi client the most but really, V1.5 on any platform right now would be good. I shall keep watch.

Any time frame for V1.5? It's time to get the Energy party restarted up in my house. Been waiting for new wallet to get heavily back into running a node.

Will it be a mandatory download of the blockchain again for V.1.5?

Anyone have a list of dependencies I might need to install for the v1.3 version of the client on Raspberry pi 2? Im sure I can flesh this out on my own, but I would help if someone had that info as I can not find it on the boards.
Why compiling an old version?
In about two weeks we have fork v 1.5 and are we on the RPI Rokos platform.

I have been waiting for them to get ROKOS in order for Energy but I also had not time frame for them to get it done so I decided that I might want to try on my own.
