Hi I'm a bit confused I'm sorry but the 5 ENRG block reward would kick in by block 2.1m right? So we're still in the percentage stake rewards?

Yes you are right. 5 ENRG block reward will kick start @block 2.1m. This is already hard-coded in our EnergyCoin Core software. That's why everyone MUST update to v1.5 before block height 2.1m, otherwise their new blocks won't get accepted by the network if they still use v1.4 (or below) after block height 2.1m.

Now we already @block 2052480. We still have less than 50K blocks for people to stake at 8% PoS block reward.

And if you look @ overview in the EnergyCoin blockexplorer : https://chainz.cryptoid.info/enrg/#!overview
You see since we anounced v1.5 much more gererated blocks.
The comunity is aware that if they wait puting EnergyCoin wallet online they miss the 8% block reward.
After block 2.1m only 5000 new coins are renerated each day.

I have 2 wishes for Energy coin right now.

 1. I would like to see Energycoin be able to be exchanged directly for dollars or Nubits ( Also Pounds and Euros ).

 2. I would like to be able to chose the drive and directory the blockchain resides in. The storage on my network tends to be diffuse With Pcs and NAS comprising most of my storage. It would be a good thing to be able to change the chain location in the event that I start having space problems on the Pi2 and need more time to do an upgrade. This would also minimize downtime for my node.

It should be noted that my first wish is mostly targeted at the Energycoin foundation or Energycoin users. I would like for us to be under control of the trade of the coin and not have to rely only on the exchanges.

Hello Harcon.,

Thanks for your comments. I agree with you. Smiley

1. I guess the first question should be which exchange(s) you think that have enough trustworthy and volume after Cryptsy is gone. Do you have any preference in your mind?

2. You can already run EnergyCoin Core within any directory you like.

Firstly, move energycoin-qt and all database/wallet files to any new directory.

Within this directory, run in linux shell:

Code:
./energycoin-qt -datadir=./

Thank you for telling me where to find the directory assignment. It will be very well used.. As far as my exchange idea. Well, What I would like to see is the community or people in the Energy coin community setup a mini exchange where the purpose is to let people buy and sell Energycoin without the need to go to a dedicated exchange.

The idea is not to replace the exchanges Energycoin is on, just offer a more direct rout for people to buy Energycoins right from the community or the foundation or both. It would be a good way to make sure that access to buying and selling energy is not affected by exchange problems or delisting, should that be a future issue for the coin.

I am looking into setting up a small exchange dedicated to Energycoin swaps, but I face a liquidity problem, so, that would have to be worked out.

Nice discussion and good to know that for unix you can choice the folder for EnergyCoin.
I presume that is not possible for the windows client?

In Windows Vista and up, you can do what are known as 'Symbolic' links. Basically, it lets you put a directory any place on your local computer or network and still have that folder operate as if it where, say, on C:\. This was put in to Windows in no small part to let you assign a folder or application to another drive when the application it's self did not have the option of being put any place else other then C:

I tend not to use Symbolic linking because I believe that it's something extra that can go wrong in certain cases and I don't wish to have the head ache. However, the few times I had to use it, it went off with no issues at all.   If you would like to try symbolic linking, you'll have to look it up because I forgot how. It's simply been years since I used it.

But you may not totally lose your hope. Do you still remember what client you used when you generated the wallet.dat?

You might get wrong type error only if the wallet DB version that the client you are using now is different from the DB version that generated the wallet.dat before. It could occur if you compiled the clients on your own with different DB versions.

It was also possible that there had nothing wrong in DB version and your wallet.dat might just get corrupted.

Assuming you use Windows (because you mentioned .exe), you may try the following steps:
1. Find out the exact client you used for generating the wallet.dat;
2. Make a shortcut for the exact client (energycoin-qt.exe);
3. Edit the shortcut and add this at the end of target field:

Code:
-salvagewallet
I still have the original .exe and its 0.7.2.0  modified date is  19/5/2014
I never self compiled.   When I load the old program it just says loading block index [now: rescanning] but I'll look for the wallet on the original setup again.   I added that switch, it made a bak and new .dat

1.- Download and Burn the ROKOS Image to a micro SD Card like you would with any other Pi Distro.
March 01 2016
ROKOS v5 "flavors" - DOWNLOAD

Steps for first boot

*Raspberry Pi 2:
User: pi / Password: raspberry , follow normal setup.

a) Type: sudo raspi-config
b) Set your Time Zone, change your pi user password and Expand the file system, restart.
After restart the system you can type:  "startx"   to start the user desktop.
c) System ready for use.

Welcome to the ROKOS Desktop

Final steps / BTC and OK Clients

a) Go to Menu > Internet and Click on your favorite Cryptocurrency Wallet

This will open the Cryptocurrency wallet and start sync.

*For some Cryptocurrencies the initial sync might take some days, wallets are fully usable after being fully Synchronized.

b) Always remember to make constant backups of your wallets and save them in USB or external media.

Use your wallets in ROKOS to plug HW and mine, Send/Receive, Stake, Share,
become a full node and support your favorite Cryptocurrency network, develop new applications,
etc, the limit is only in your imagination.

Important Security Notice:
*) Remember to create a backup for your Wallets, you can use the wallets to create them and save in different folders on a USB device.
You should ALWAYS have a backup of your wallet, Raspberry Pi Hardware, Raspbian and ROKOS Software are under development hence not responsible for missuses, electrical or compatibility issues that might cause a loss of information. It is as secure as one's ability to take care for it, same as a computer, so always have a backup of your wallets on an external device.

*) Some people tend to recommend getting a 128Gb MicroSD HC (High speed) , at the same time it does work, I do not recommend this solution, as microSD cards tend to get corrupted by the number of overwrites, to ensure the best functionality and security you should use an external HDD/USB storage device to store the chains.

You can start testing and developing new integration with ROKOS and your favorite cryptocurrencies for your IoT projects.

"Empower yourself and build your own Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies Fullnode Guide"

ROKOS Guide from zero! Full steps for New Users
by SwedishBitMiner

---Prepare the MicroSD/MicroSDHC card---

(I did this on a Windows computer, and I dont know what tool to use for Mac to install the iso file Image burner, for this guide you will have to figure out that yourself, if you use Mac)

1. Download and install SD Formatter 4.0 (This is the tool to format the SD card) from:
Windows: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/eula_windows/SDFormatterv4.zip
Mac: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/eula_mac/SDFormatter_4.00B.pkg
(or find it yourself at: https://sdcard.org/downloads)

2. Insert the MicroSD/MicroSDHC card into your PC/Mac. (You will probably need an MicroSD to SD adapter for this).

3. Start SD Formatter 4.0 and click the [Option] button. In there you change from "FORMAT TYPE: QUICK" to "FORMAT TYPE: (FULL)Erase", just leave the "FORMAT SIZE ADJUSTMENT" in OFF and click the [OK] button so start the format. When the card is completely formatted click the [Exit] button to close SD Formatter.

4. Download and install Win32 Disk Imager (This is the iso file Image burner) from:
Windows: http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/files/latest/download

5. Download ROKOS Core (rokos5.img.zip) and unzip the ISO file (This is the awesome ROKOS Core "Operating System" that we are going to install on the SD card) from:
Download: http://bit.ly/rokos5flavors
(or find it yourself at: http://rokos.space

6. Start Win32 Disk Imager, press the "little blue folder" and select the "rokos5.img" file that you did extract. Make sure your SD card is selected in the list to the right and press the [Write] button. It will tell you that it can corrupt the SD card, just press [Yes] to continue the installation, when the installation to the SD card is done press the [Exit] button to close Win32 Disk Imager.

7. Now "Safely remove" your SD card from the computer.

8. Put the MicroSD/MicroSDHC card in your Raspberry Pi 2, and make sure you got an USB Keyboard, Monitor (via HDMI), and and Internet cable connected to the Raspberry Pi 2 before you connect the power cable to your Raspberry Pi 2.

---Installing ROKOS ---
(The first boot of ROKOS )

1. Type:
Code:
sudo raspi-config
(and press enter)

2. Select:
Code:
1. Expand Filesystem
(and press enter) press enter again on the <Ok> button.

3. Select:
Code:
2. Change user password
(and press enter) press enter again on the <Ok> button. Type a new password (you will not see the letters) and press enter, type your new password again, and press enter. Then press the <Ok> button.

4. Select:
Code:
5. Internationalization Options
(and press enter) Then select:
Code:
I2. Change Timezone
(Choose your timezone)

5. Press the "TAB" button on your keyboard two times to get to the <Finish> button, and press enter. Then choose <Yes> to restart your system.

6. Type:
Code:
startx
(and press enter) your system will now start up and you are DONE!

ENJOY THIS AWESOME OPERATING SYSTEM!

OK is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls OK and everyone can take part.

Since you never self compiled, your old wallet.dat might just get corrupted.

If it shows rescanning and you get a new wallet.dat, that means the salvage process does work.

Now you should wait for rescanning to finish.

After rescanning finishes, you should see the correct balance. If not, then this is not your main wallet. Try another one.

If both Joachim and Harcon are working on a similar project, they might consider a cooperation to work it out together.

Got ROKOS up and running with very few problems. I simply copied my Energycoin folder over to ROKOS and thus had very very small wait time to sync the wallet. I will post pics later.

For those of you who use ROKOS, I did run into a problem getting it online with WIFI. The problem is in the network configuration file. You have to change the wlan0 manual to DHCP. I do not have the time to post instructions on what I did, but most likely will in about 2 hours.

All, in all though, the installation was not a big problem.

It is alive! Well, almost. I have to find a place to keep my Pi that my 6 cats wont get to. They would kill the poor pi if i left it out.

If you use ROKOS with an Ethernet cable you should have no problems at all with your connection. However, you may find a situation where your using a Wifi dongle and you are successful in getting it to connect but you can not go any place on the net or use your wallet. This is how I fixed it.

1.Sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces ( in terminal )

2.You should see a few lines of configuration already there. At the top of those lines of configuration add: auto wlan0

3. find iface wlan0 inet manual and change manual to dhcp.

4. At this point you may pres cont X and it will ask you if you want to save changes. Type y and restart.

BAM! you should now be good to go.

Also note that when your wallet is syncing you may lose control of your mouse. This seems to be not a big issue as it comes back. You may have mouse problems until the wallet is running for a min or 2 and everything settles down.

Awesome! Very glad to see your ROKOS screenshot! thanks for the feedback, adding it to the ROKOS flavors thread.

Guys,

I start to redesign our OP today.

Added a 'Latest News' section.

Now people don't have to search or read the last couple of pages in order to know our important news.

Mandatory Update marked in red to get more people alerted.

ROKOS v5 Flavors is now on our top news. More good news to come...

Added a 'Frequently Asked Questions' section too.

@Harcon
Thanks and appreciate for your inputs about using Wifi dongle on ROKOS. I added it in FAQ as well.

Yea Ive found another dat and Im trying it.   It hangs for a while, just noticed this .exe is 1.1.2.0 which is ancient I guess, appears to be build April 26th 2014.    It appears to be saying empty, I'll try 1.5 when it finishes updating, hopefully I'll find the right combo at some point.   The original machine has some blk files and other stuff but its only wallet.dat I need to copy over I guess

I have installed OSX 1.5 EnergyCoin client and the synch is much more faster.
I did it with old energy conf and only 3 clients connected but it finished the synch in no time

I think it's at least 10 times faster than 1.3 OSX client  Shocked

Very nice work  Smiley
Thx,

After some personal issues I'm back there

Special thanks to Jan  Smiley

@dev team

We should consider to bring bitcoinlib to replace openssl lib. checksig validation is now 7x times more effective, for a pi it would be a MAJOR improvement  Shocked

I have no clue if it's hard to do, but it should be worth the efforts

Nice to be part of this project again

Hello sardokan,

Welcome back and thanks for your suggestion. Smiley

While you might not had got your wallet synch for a while, there has already been lots of major improvements since v1.3.

Client v1.4 already had the whole checkblock process, including checksig, optimized. Since then, checksig validation is no longer a bottleneck anymore.

Despite this, we will continue to make improvements that worth our efforts.

v1.1.2 should be the first beta release built by the original dev team.

From your photo, wallet.bak is a backup from the salvage process. The salvage process tried to repair your wallet and extracted all private keys to a new file, which is now your new wallet.dat.

Yes you only need to copy wallet.dat for the move. From what I can read from the source code, the original dev team made some blockindex changes on v1.2 and your old v1.1.2 blk files should be incompatible with newer clients.

I guess you already knew you can download new blk files from our Bootstrap Server.

Really wish you can recover your coins. Don't give up. Smiley
