Thanks for the suggestion. The website is long overdue for a frontend overhaul, but I'm not really that good at frontend design. I also am rather busy with my other projects at the moment, so I don't have the time to improve this one. At the moment it's functioning quite well by itself.
If you allow me I could design a rough template for a new site and share it with you. As already mentioned, this project has great potential and all it really needs to grow is more available work, which can be solved by using different language and terminology on the landing page. I can do that for you. Jorijnsmit, I think it needs more than that; if you're aiming for average bitcoin-joe-on-the-street to be able to use vanity addresses, even copying and pasting the private key into a website/app key-import text box might be more trouble than they'd be comfortable with. Certainly if they generated the key on a website then had to import it into a phone app (or any other device), or the other way round. The ideal would be a point-and-click interface to "download" the key and apply it. There's no mime-type or file format or filename-type-extension set up for that, and no apps I'm aware of have considered to make it easy enough to do anything like that. Because of the low demand for usage of that kind of feature, I think - bit of a chicken and egg type problem. Are you talking about importing a private key? Because in that what I think you are describing are QR codes. Of course not all smartphone apps would support this, so some people would just have to retype the private key or copy-paste it somehow. Anyway I do think Vanity Pool lends itself very well for providing keys to bitcoin-joe-on-the-street guys, if the site is presented in a different way that is. Do you keep (Google) analytics statistics ThePiachu? I wonder what your bounce rate is, e.g. how many people decide to visit the site but close it after seeing the front page. The bounce rate for the "request a vanity address" page would be even more interesting. I never heard back from you on some text I rewrote for the front page... |

Hi, so I just started doing the vanity mining.
The program started up find and pulled available work and displayed:
"Searching for pattern: "1Aurareus" Reward: 0.096000 Value: 0.000002 BTC/Gkey
Difficulty: 50656515217834
Total value for current work: 0.000002 BTC/Gkey"
So is it only checking the generated keys against the one pattern "1Aurareus", or is it checking for all available patterns. Assumingily, it would be more profitable to check all the available patterns to see if you randomly get it. Is that possible or is the splitkey thing not allowing it. Or am I way off here?

This is from the script's help page (italics are mine): Contacts the specified bounty pool server, downloads a list of active bounties, and attempts to generate the address with the best difficulty to reward ratio. So unless there are two addresses for which this ratio is exactly the same you might be right; it would be better to check simultaneously then. If not it is better to focus on the most rewarding pattern. |

I initially found your tap on GitHub, where you stated you had a custom tap containing vanitygen ( https://github.com/samr7/vanitygen/issues/45), which is maybe worth mentioning here as well. The only concern I have is that of safety... How can I know there is no backdoor in the scripts, reporting back private keys to you? |

So are the prices on the website still current? Are they in BTC?
In other words, do I understand correctly that if I would want to request a search for a pattern with eight characters (1Abcdefg) that that would cost BTC 8.3 or USD 5222?

I would like to present my latest project: Bitkaku! Bitkaku is a comparison platform for bitcoin related products and services, the first product tackled being rechargeable bitcoin debit cards. I see these debit cards as a very important step in the bitcoin economy, namely making bitcoin available for everyday use. I realize it is somewhat of a quasi solution: all bitcoin will still need to be converted to fiat currency before the transaction can be completed. It is however a good development in taking the economy to the next level. Anyway, I started comparing several rechargeable bitcoin debit cards and am slowly filling an extensive spreadsheet with all the details I can find. These products themselves are also very much in development right now and I have had some interesting discoveries. Right now what I can do is share the spreadsheet with you guys to see what you think. I will stay active comparing these cards and editing the sheet. Using your reactions I could then figure out where to take Bitkaku next! How do I know it where it will be accepted without problems? |

Looking at the list of Bitcoin merchants ( https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade), I can't help but wonder why the more basic human needs such as energy and food aren't available yet via Bitcoins. Bitspend ( https://bitspend.net/) is making a nice effort making all products available for sale on Internet also available via Bitcoins. Are there any similar initiatives for bills and groceries, especially in Europe? Would an intermediate such as Bitspend be favoured over merchants accepting it directly? |

I guess bad (?) press is also press. For me personally, the fact that the BBC picks up on this topic and reports on it shows that Bitcoin is also on the radar of the general public. |
