Hey, pass me a bit of that neverending popcorn, will ya? Grin

I admittedly missed the events surrounding this. But, from what I can tell, this is nothing more than some hot steam getting blown around. Oh well...  Undecided

Ho boy, the natives; they are restless...   Roll Eyes

Also, I see we are second guessing ourselves here. It could be any bloke with bad looks/tastes.
4  Economy / Economics / Re: Everyone's right, enough gloom and doom... on: December 08, 2011, 07:46:16 PM
I thought I came to that conclusion, no?

(rereads post) hmm, guess not. You make a good point, and really yes, when it comes down to it, currency change will occur (read: MUST occur). I guess what I mean to say is that the bitcoin would at least reach a state where all trade based on the coin alone, will eventually factor into the whole of trades which will be available in the currency, solely.

Exchanges will still occur, but I'm hoping it'll eventually transcend currency exchange for the common consumer (and producer, who must exist for this to even work as I think of it) in the Bitcoinomy. Business? No, exchanges will need to occur until the country of Bitcoinia is proclaimed in an abandoned military base somewhere... >_>

(and thats obviously not the point of the Bitcoin; it transcends nationality and borders)

And in the end, we'll see how things truly go. This is not really how I think things will be, but I'm not confident in my theory of what will actually occur. Speculation is for the traders, not the grassroots consumer that I intend to be mostly.

I'm only curious as to when this sort of pure BTC-trade market would arise? A safe bet is that it'll occur sometime when the coin reaches a larger userbase, and if then, it will still need to prove it's value beyond how we've traditionally pegged all trade value at BTC. By the time it makes it's way into every economically viable nook-and-cranny, the value of BTC will have probably risen so that we start trading on the base value of 0.01 or possibly lower.

Again, this would not eradicate exchanges. With taxes still requiring a person's fiat income, then there will be no true incentive to produce goods and services to keep the Bitcoinomy alive. Because effectively, we need fiat in our country to live.

If someone doesn't mind, however, the life of a rummaging self-sustained recluse, then they could probably make a healthy living buying liquidation bulk and selling it off for BTC with which to trade for fiat to sustain themselves.  Grin

So really, until the ability to sustain ones self on the BTC alone is feasible, a true all-encompassing economy will just not exist. Sorry to say that, even as much as I like the idea behind the bitcoin, there's just no way I could do anything with it besides small-scale trade. All products we get with bitcoin ATM, still have some form of fiat involved. There's just no way. (not now, anyway! Forgot to reiterate that Tongue)

These are just my ideas on the situation. Agree or disagree on some of it if you will, but one has to admit that the coin is still stuck at the airport due to bad weather.
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minimalist Spartan6-LX150 board on: December 05, 2011, 05:12:05 PM
I'm well aware of how I can buy bitcoins. However, my intention is not to simply buy into them; after all, market trends show that to be somewhat negligible a route for someone expecting to profit from this. No, my only intention is to add to the market and trade as much as I can on the coin alone.

Course, I could buy just a coin or two, but I'm just going to get into mining. And besides that, I'm not very confident in my trade skills.
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minimalist Spartan6-LX150 board on: December 05, 2011, 02:16:18 PM
I must say, months ago when I first stumbled upon the bitcoin, I lost hope in ever utilizing it as a online payment alternative because of GPU+Power costs, and the fact that the value dropped greatly within 2 months (Back when I was concerned with profiting from it, alone).

I'd be able to afford these up-and-coming FPGA boards, and would be willing to tag along with a few pools. I am devoted again thanks to these recent advancements.

What'll they think up next?  Cheesy
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ultra-Low-Cost DIY FPGA Miner - 175MH/s @ $1/MH on: December 05, 2011, 01:51:00 PM
This is very nice.  Grin

I live off peanuts though (Like some/alot of the people fascinated with Bitcoins), so are you sure this will go cheap? (I realize I may contradict myself a bit in another FPGA thread, but I am assuredly willing to chip in the money to see this through)

EDIT: Hmm, could you possibly sell the PCB specs of the FPGA and carrier, under a non-redistributable license? Or is home-fabrication of these still a pipedream? With traces being as thin as they are.
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: How many of you Bears have ever been a victim of a Short Squeeze? on: December 01, 2011, 02:37:36 PM
I don't post very much. Just wanted to say I feel dumb for not jumping into this sooner. The bitcoin is rising back up, so it's clearly more resilient than what naysayers believe. This indeed is the effect of more progressive bids/sales that hold stronger than the so-called "bid-walls", yes?

I feel very proud to have supported the bull side of things in this.  Cheesy

(P.S: If I could get more involved in actual trade, then I may have a better grasp of how exactly the market swings. This speculation is all well and worth the read, but obviously I should tread into the waters before truly waxing fiscal)

(P.P.S: Possibly this post would work better as standalone. Oh well...)
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: Huge swings on: September 02, 2011, 12:50:58 PM
Ah, alright.  Tongue

Kind of figured I was nitpicking there; just wasn't sure.
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Huge swings on: September 02, 2011, 02:30:55 AM
Well, how I see it now is merely the appeal of a certain exchange to people, than that of others. It seems the player with the best reputability and/or involvement in the Bitcoin development itself... Well, basically it seems that if an up and coming player in the market can prove themselves, then maybe they could swing the pendulum in their favor?

I dunno, but the fact of the matter is clear, that Intersango has seen some recent upward sales. Though now that they've capped off at that, it just seems fitting that possibly other big markets will see upward shifts? Anyone see where I'm getting at?

SECOND THOUGHT: Course, you all would be thinking, "Well how would one exchange influence the price of trades on its competitors, any? Well, I'm merely thinking of slight rises in prices. Give about 1.25 USD or so.
12  Economy / Speculation / Re: Huge swings on: September 01, 2011, 05:25:01 PM
Today's market stocks shows Intersango USD at a position of about 10.50 USD (Rounded out) which is 2.30+ over former market leader MtGox. Does this trend seemingly imply the newfound success in Intersango trade as more people move their trades over there?

Sorry, I'm learning my speculation terminology, but I've been keeping a watch on the stocks for weeks now, since I first discovered the Bitcoin.
So I thought I might chip in what I've noticed, from the last few days as MtGox USD prices have steadily lowered. (As of this post)
13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin on Freenet (BtcFn) Specification on: August 31, 2011, 05:03:28 AM
Is this by any means a project still in the making? I found a link to it on FN, so was just wondering what the last update was.

Heheh, my rig is so loud, and it literally doubled as a space heater in the winter. A space heater that rose the bill, a trifle sum...  Grin

But I will look into setting up a mining rig (Possibly/probably part-time, given the lack of a hard drive in the system for it to be useful for much more). I also will try and learn a bit more about getting efficient speeds but a slightly more economical footprint. The GPU is looking to be the most important aspect of a mining rig, at this point. I'm now just wondering what I could do after that... But it'll be worth the ride anyways.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it worth it? on: August 22, 2011, 12:27:35 PM
Ah yes, a mining pool. I'll look into that. And starting off with something midrage (300-500 MHash/sec) would be much easier.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it worth it? on: August 22, 2011, 02:57:59 AM
I have approximately 2.5-2.6 G/hashes between my systems.  I can reasonably expect to average 1.5ish BitCoins per day.  You would be lucky to get 0.5% of my hashrate, even with one of the best 4000 series video cards.  I don't intend to discourage you, but unless you have a 5700/6700 series or higher it's probably not worth the cost of electricity and you could expect to lose money in most places (depends on your electricity rates).

Righto! So hunting down a new card, it is then.

Thanks!

Would such cards stuck into a cheap system, such as a custom built Sempron, slow things down any? I mean, its the card alone that needs to do all the work, right?
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it worth it? on: August 20, 2011, 11:04:44 AM
I myself have been sitting on a slightly old, but fairly up to speed rig; a good CPU (AMD Phenom 4X) but clearly the GPU is where it is on the mining scene, and the best I've got is an HD 4XXX series card (I forgot the specific model #). If I get such a rig setup w/ say, that custom linux distro for mining, could I get my system working well enough to get a bitcoin or a few every week? Or would I have to hunt down a stronger card?
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: August 16, 2011, 01:27:16 PM
Hello, everyone.  Cheesy

I've recently just discovered the Bitcoin scene (Funny I didn't notice it, sooner) and feel vested enough in it, that I may setup my computer for it someday. Until then, I've got this small Bitcoinplus account that I shall be using to test the waters, simply put. I really want to see where this goes, and I also wanted to join a community to figure out the validity of some Bitcoin services (Goods stores/currency trades).

Thanks again, and I'll try to get a standard account started soon.
