1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Hashie.co - Cloud Mining from 0.0012 BTC / GH | NEW: AMHash | FREE 10 GH on: December 24, 2014, 04:02:09 PM
Hashie doesn't care if the difficulty drops or not. They just want to sell contracts to hedge their investment.

I, for one, thing the environment for these FireHashers looks pretty good right now. I think I'll try it out.

AMHash, who provides hashing power to Hashie, has shown photos of their operation. People too often assume that cloud mining operations are a ponzi scheme because they don't understand why a company wouldn't just keep the proceeds of the mining operation for themselves. The reason is that if they can get other people to pay their maintenance fees then they are protected from a collapse in the bitcoin market. They're just hedging their bets by letting users like us accept some of the risk in exchange for possible profit. Not so hard to understand.

For those of you who are curious, as I was, how far bitcoin would have to drop (at the current difficulty) before the AMHash miners were no longer profitable thereby ending the contracts...

I came up with about $122.

Much more good news about bitcoin and we just might see the price drop that far.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: December 08, 2014, 11:44:31 PM

With my New R-Box I've now tried cgminer versions 4.3.3, 4.5, 4.7, 4.7.1, and 4.8. I've also tried BFGminer 4.10(I think that's the version). I've tried these at multiple frequencies, with different USB cables, on different computers, and on different pools.

The best results I've gotten are with pre-4.8 cgminer versions running 270 to 290 MHz. These results are typically about 90 GH/s reported by cgminer with lots of errors, pool-side usually comes out to low-70's GH/s with 15-25% error rate. cgminer 4.8 starts out around 70-80 GH/s, then settles around 45 GH/s with 2-3% errors. BFGminer reports mid-70's GH/s pre-error, but an effective mid-40's GH/s with a 35+% error rate.

I could be wrong... but I think I have a faulty box. I emailed the dealer tonight and I'm hoping they offer to exchange.

I contacted Jones Gear regarding my New R-Box issue and they agreed that I had done sufficient troubleshooting and that a replacement was in order.

They shipped me a replacement New R-Box with a return shipping label. All I had to do was take the new New R-Box out of the box, pop the cables our of the old one, put them in the new one, and toss the old one into the box they provided and return to USPS.

No additional configuration needed. Getting 110+ GH/s with about 5% errors right out of the box.

Jones Gear, you rock! I'm glad to have a machine running properly now and also glad to see it wasn't my own idiocy causing the issues.

I generally think free things are too good to be true.

Instead of building one for me for free, could you tell me how to go about doing it myself, instead?

Nice update. I look forward to future weekly updates. That kind of engagement, especially when it's reliable, is terrific for the community.

Just look at "Market Depth" in any market. You'll see exactly how many long and short shares are funded, and at what levels.

If you see a price (buy or sell), it is matched.

Once you place an order, if it is NOT matched, you will see a link at the top of the screen saying "# Open Orders"

Matched shares will be listed at the top of the screen saying "# Shares"

So long as the dev team is able to continue their work, the low price is awesome! Gives us more time to acquire shares because, in the end, they're all worth $1.

If the devs need to sell off some of their shares to get some operating moneys all they have to do is release some progress reports on their X11, X13, X15 ASIC Miner development and the market excitement over the products will drive the price up.

It would be nice if XMR was adopted by Shapeshift Lens. Someone who knows a dev go tap them on the shoulder.

It seems people have been following me @AlphaProMega and taking my advice on #GSX, I'm glad we're having this tremendous growth and I'm sure we're only just scratching the surface! The potential of this coin is immensely outstanding!  Cheesy

I realize you think shameless self-plugging is important, but I'd appreciate if you showed a little shame and took less credit for the GSX investors' decision to support this endeavor.

The Glowshares team have developed a quality currency and have been professionally engaged with the community. They deserve all the credit for this.

I'm actually pretty happy about the price. I've been able to scoop up many more shares for cheap.

For anyone complaining that they weren't able to make a quick buck, you are really expecting too much from the crypto market. Considering that these shares will be worth at least $0.80 when the miners go on sale next year, that's over a 50% profit in less than a year for ICO investors if they sell. If I could get reliable investments like that, I'd never work again.

However, for those of you projecting the stock will go over $1... I fail to see how that could be sustained for any time without serious manipulation. CHash coins have a very real, tangible value and I see no reason for it to exceed that. I think $0.75 to $0.90 is most likely as manufacturers tend to offer their products at slightly higher prices than distributors, so the CHash coin market would level that out.

I do see one way that CHash coins could go to $1 or more, though. There will certainly be a lot of people waiting to be first to get their miners once they start taking pre-orders. If Cleverhash were to announce (let's say, late next Spring) that people paying with CHash or Boom coins will have their orders fulfilled first, that would improve both the coin markets. Announcing that right now would most likely just been seen as a ploy to pump the coins before they have mass market acceptance.

I've since uninstalled the drivers for BFGminer and gone back to cgminer. However, I did check individual chips when I had BFGminer. The lowest error rate was low-teens, the highest was 53%.

Somehow the market doesn't realize they can by $1 for $0.33.

Fine by me. Just giving me more time to get liquid and buy more shares.
15  Economy / Gambling / Re: Predictious.com | The Premier Bitcoin Prediction Market | Trade & Win Bitcoins! on: November 27, 2014, 05:47:47 AM
I believe you can offer to buy or sell a market at any price, but the best price will be what people see.

If you view a market and click "Market Depth" you can all the unmatched orders with less-favorable odds than the primary displayed odds.
16  Economy / Gambling / Re: Predictious.com | The Premier Bitcoin Prediction Market | Trade & Win Bitcoins! on: November 27, 2014, 04:10:42 AM
It works very similarly to Intrade, just different currency/amounts.

If you put up 1 mBTC long, someone else must put up 9 mBTC short. Or 2 & 8, 2.5 & 7.5, etc.

For any matched bet, there is 10 mBTC between both sides combined. Whoever is correct takes the pot (minus a small fee).

It took me a while to get accustomed to the Intrade/Predictious method, but once you're used to it, you'll be comfortable not only buying shares, but also selling matched (long or short) shares when the odds improve.
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: November 27, 2014, 02:37:05 AM
BFGMiner and CGMiner use different drivers, you will not likely get BFGMiner to recognize any device with Zadig drivers installed and would possibly have to even delete Zadig before getting the SiliconLabs CP210x USBtoUart drivers to work, not always but some people have had issues with these two coexisting on the same computer. As far as hash rate falling off, make sure to watch what the temps are reporting as well as making sure something else in the house isn't trying to consume your bandwidth from your router.

Thanks for the driver advice, that helped me get BFGminer running.

Can we agree Glowshares dev is anonymous to the public? Because that's a fact..

Satoshi Nakamoto is anonymous and didn't have PoD.

So what's your beef?

@Cleverhash

In your shared PoW/PoS system with 0 block rewards and 0% stake reward, what measures are in place to ensure there's incentive for users to support the blockchain with sufficient power to withstand a concerted 51% attack?

It may be that the answer to this is obvious and I just don't understand PoW/PoS well enough. However, this question has been asked before and never answered.

The way I look at it is that sure, I invested in the ICO, so I want the price to go up.

However, the price going down means I can get more shares for less than $0.50. Now it's around $0.33 per share, so buying shares now essentially means I'm getting ASIC mining hardware at 1/3 of the actual price.

It's a win-win.
