1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo's Remarks about Bitcoin XT on: September 15, 2015, 09:43:34 AM
Here are two quotes:

Quote
Doing a contentious hard fork is not healthy. It's basically a 51% attack being justified through argument.

Quote
I'm just guessing to say that 75% is a large enough number that that forces the rest of the network comply. But if they don't...if you have an ongoing... This is essentially a civil war. It is technologically equivalent to a 51% attack what Hearn and Andresen are doing. And so you essentially have a civil war situation. It will certainly exercise all of Bitcoin's security features...let's put it that way...as any war would.

I like and agree with those two quotes and am glad he said them. I really lost a lot of respect for Hearn and Andresen after they did this.

Oh, did they ask if he was satsohi?  Grin
2  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Holding Bitcoin a long time good way to make money? on: September 01, 2015, 10:18:51 AM
Holding BTC a long time to make money is not good idea, better try to buy some altcoins at low price and then sale them at higher price, and change back to BTC  Grin

Um, why would it not be a good idea to just do this with bitcoins? You've got more chance of loosing your  money investing in crapcoins. There is great potential for profit just by holding bitcoins long term though you could sell them and buy back with every rise and fall.
3  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Syrian government air strikes on market kill at least 82 people on: August 18, 2015, 09:10:47 AM
War, just same old war. Is it known if they actually targeted the market on purpose? Don't see why they would do that.

Since when Syria has a legit government?

Bashar al-Assad is a President of Syria
Bashar Hafez al-Assad is the President of Syria, commander-in-chief of Syrian Armed Forces, General Secretary of the ruling Ba'ath Party and Regional Secretary of the party's branch in Syria. (Wikipedia)

There was an election. People voted for him.

Assad's goverment is a legit goverment.

Well just because there was an election doesn't mean it was fair or rigged, though I don't really see much difference between Assad and leaders like Obama, Putin, Cameron, Netanyahu etc.

5  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hackers threaten to leak Ashley Madison's 37 million clients on: July 20, 2015, 08:46:41 PM
I don't really understand why people would go to such a site. Why not just go have an affair on any other dating site? Ones that specifically go to site for an affair ironically don't seem like the type of people you'd even want to date. Baffling.
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Holding Bitcoin a long time good way to make money? on: July 06, 2015, 09:15:07 PM
Holding will likely make you the most money in the long term but obviously nothing in the short term. I believe in 2-5 years bitcoin will be worth multiples of what it is now so I think it'd be wise to save, but in the meantime you could try trading for profit. Risky to do this though.
7  Other / Politics & Society / Re: interracial crime in the usa, putting charleston in context on: June 22, 2015, 10:04:49 AM
Anyone see that video of the friends of the shooter? One of them was black and said he'd never heard him say anything racist before or acted in any way suspect. Thought that was weird.

I lived a short time in America and saw things that are unthinkable in Europe.
Whites lives mainly in the rich suburbs of cities, black people in poor houses or buildings in the center, white people generally drive in the cars, black people in public transport etc.
The difference in living standards between blacks and whites is huge and it just creates resentment and anger among blacks.

The crime rates are linked to poverty and there's a larger percentage of African Americans living in poverty so that's why the figures are higher.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can I trust an altcoin when... on: June 08, 2015, 11:47:15 AM
You can get a virus from any wallet or miner software. People will try hack sites to upload a malicious version and people frequently try to post them on here to try dupe people into downloading them. This is why I don't really bother with new alts are they're largely a waste of time anyway/
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should Altcoins be considered as Digital Currencies ? on: June 08, 2015, 10:39:41 AM
Yes, because they are a digital currency. You can stop calling them altcoins if you wish though and just call them cryptocurrencies instead. Maybe altcoin will go out of fashion eventually but you can't really force people to change but you can lead by example.
10  Economy / Services / Re: buy me a pizza i will escrow bitcoin 1-1 on: May 20, 2015, 06:41:48 PM
Do you wish to buy a pizza for 10K btc? I have one for sale

You mean 10 thousand btc ? Man you gotta be kidding him.

He's referencing the guy who purchased a pizza on here for a massive sum of coins back in the day. It ended up being a million dollars or something for the purchase (though likely much less with todays price). I wouldn't want to spend any of my coins just in case bitcoin skyrocketed again.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin makes banks unnecessary on: May 11, 2015, 04:38:32 PM
Bitcoin does not make banks unnecessary.

Bitcoin cannot provide loans.
Bitcoin cannot provide investments.
Bitcoin cannot provide estate security.

Bitcoin has it's place as an option to the intelligent investor.  But it will never replace a bank.

yeah, bitcoin will never replace bank, it is impossible, I just see bitcoin is good for international transfer, only international transfer is better than banks' transfer, much faster and anonymous. But the price is volatile, when btc is not volatile, btc may be used as a currency, or alternative, but never the alternatives of banks.

I think people get the two types of banks mixed up. There's the central banks that issue the money and then the regular banks that give ordinary people loans and hold their savings etc. It could in theory get rid of the central banks because we don't need them to issue our money any more and others could be prohibited from creating it out of thin air themselves though loans etc. If they haven't got the cash or coins to make a loan then they can't load any money because if it's not on the blockchain then they don't own it.
12  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: April 27, 2015, 02:47:43 PM
If we can buy accounts , is it possible for me to buy a legndry member?
It would be awesome to have good respect Cool

I don't think merely being a Legendary gives you respect, especially if you buy the account. You need to earn respect over time.
13  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: April 11, 2015, 09:01:02 AM
How much are the maximum posts someone can make per week ? I'm asking because am afraid that I would over do it. Thanks !

It says no limits in the op so as many as you can make, but I'd be more worried about getting banned for spamming more than anything else so be aware of that.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best operative system? on: March 24, 2015, 04:28:14 PM
Really should be in OffTopic, but Mac is the safest to use with BTC applications on it. I use linux sometimes though.

that's a myth, mac is not less secure at all, they are all about the same, the secuirty of a desktop depend mostly on the person using it

True.
Many people tend to believe that Mac OS is more secure than Windows because you hardly see any viruses for Mac.

The truth is malware developers want to target the largest user base to make their 'hard work' worthwhile, so they target the Windows ecosystem.
You hardly see viruses for Mac, because bad guys target it less than they target Windows.

Is this really true though? There might be considerably more windows users but Macs are very very popular and are getting much more so with the youth. Just go into your local starbucks and see how many people you can't see on a mac. I pretty much never see any other laptops.
15  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysia Airlines MH17 Crash: Boeing 777 Crashed in Ukraine Near Russian Border on: March 12, 2015, 09:40:30 AM
On 8 August 2014 these four investigating nations signed an agreement that the results of the investigation would not be published unless all four countries agreed.  This gave one of the prime suspects in the atrocity, Ukraine, an effective veto over any investigations result that attributed blame to them.  This is an astonishing situation and probably without precedent in modern air crash investigations.

Why the Secrecy on the Mh17 Investigation

http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/12/19/why-the-secrecy-on-the-mh17-investigation/

From the article:

Quote
The Russians further disclosed that at the precise time of the shoot down an American spy satellite was directly overhead the scene and would have recorded the sequence of events.  The Russians invited the Americans to share these data with the official investigation that had been launched

It seems that back then the Americans were shocked by this fact (and more than likely still are), and had been panicking (and are still afraid) that the next evidence the evil Russians could reveal would be the snapshots right from this reconnaissance satellite.

Now that would be a twist if they could find some evidence of America being involved. Obviously they were doing their best to put the blame on Russia but ironically they could have the evidence to the contrary.
16  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jeremy Clarkson suspended from Top Gear on: March 12, 2015, 09:26:24 AM
I like him overal but he can be a bit of a twat sometimes.

The BBC has suspended Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson "following a fracas" with a producer.

I'd love to know what a 'fracas' entails exactly. Wonder if they got into a fistfight. I'm sure they'll kiss and make up though as Top Gear likely wont go on without him and it makes too much money for the BBC.

Lol yeah I wondered to what a fracas was. must be a British term.

It's not. Just because you haven't heard of a word before doesn't make it a 'british term'. It just means a 'noisy disturbance or quarrel' and in this case is probably a quaint term for 'Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer in the face and called him a cunt'  Cheesy.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Top 5 Worst Altcoin Name on: March 02, 2015, 10:54:40 AM
Lol. There's a lot. There have been so many I see and just shake my head at and forget about but the ones that try to be for a unique niche or industry annoy me as they're unnecessary - stuff like weedcoin and sexcoin etc. Which are yours?
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trezor and other Secure Wallets will have a large effect on the Bitcoin Price on: February 08, 2015, 01:07:55 PM
I think the average user may be concerned about keeping their coins safe but I don't think it will have much effect on the price, though adoption will rise along with new wallet technology so if it happens it will be coincidental.
19  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin and Altcoins - Up or Down? on: February 08, 2015, 11:23:29 AM
I think it's only a matter of time before the price starts to creep back up. Alt coins may follow along with it but I dpn't see much gains for alts personally but do with bitcoin. Bitcoin has big money and merchants getting behind it and alts dont.
20  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-1-31] CT: Dirty Bitcoins, Murder-for-Hire Plots Surface in Silk Road Trial on: February 02, 2015, 03:31:19 PM
Quote
But the trial really came up to speed on Thursday, which saw a revelation that once again highlighted the absence of default anonymity in the Bitcoin system. Former FBI agent Ilhwan Yum revealed to have found that some 700,000 bitcoins were sent directly from Silk Road's servers near Philadelphia (USA) and Reykjavik (Iceland) to Ulbricht's laptop. No tumblers, no detours, no tricks. “Direct, one-to-one transfers”, Yum emphasized.

Matters are looking bleak for Ulbricht indeed.

Shocked Roll Eyes. What an absolute idiot. This guy seems to have been pretty naive in certain circumstances. Why would he not even attempt to mix his coins. There's no way he's going to get out of this. Bleak indeed.
