1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to solve UK Bitcoin Exchange Problem? on: September 15, 2015, 09:41:12 AM
I'm sure there was one that was set up a few months ago that was baed in the UK.

There's also coinfloor but haven't used it so not sure if its what you're after: https://coinfloor.co.uk/
2  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-09-01] Ghanaian start-up Beam stopped its Bitcoin remittance services on: September 01, 2015, 08:27:13 AM
Well that's lame. Bitcoin could be huge for the remittance market but I think at the moment is not enough people are aware of it or are going to use it so it may be too early for bitcoin to become popular which may scare businesses off from using it.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More on CoinTelegraph from a former writer. on: August 18, 2015, 09:58:38 AM
Pretty much all of these bitcoin news sites copy articles from everyone else, though most of the time its people copying from cointelegraph. I think any so called 'journalist' should be fired for plagiarism though. One warning was more than enough and if it was a more serious site they would have fired them immediately though maybe he was just niave but like you said it can seriously damage the sites rep.
4  Economy / Gambling / Re: UK Gambling Commission says UK based sites need a license! on: August 04, 2015, 10:07:08 AM
Can somebody explain to me why PrimeDice are still allowing UK players to bet? I'm assuming they found a loophole of some sort.

I doubt it, they probably just haven't had any contact from them yet. It seems once they got a letter or email from one specific country they blocked access to that particular nation. Depending on where PD is hosted there's probably not much anyone could do anyway.
5  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: July 20, 2015, 02:34:19 PM
The escrow system on OB is definitely going to be the weak link. I think with any transaction involving bitcoin someone is going to have to trust someone else somewhere but that's where the opportunity is for something bad to happen. Escrow is also going to be really difficult for them to judge certain things as well (buyer says he received the item but it was a box of bricks and not a macbook etc - what do they do then?).
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Silk Road's Ulbricht Win Appeal? on: July 06, 2015, 12:18:08 PM
Ross Ullbricht did not get a fair trial. Evidence was withheld to protect the agents, who also stole Bitcoins.

The murder charges was never used in court, they only fabricated that story, to make him look bad, and the sentence is clear evidence of that.

I doubt they were fabricated but it may have been entrapment. If you're going to say evidence was fabricated then you might as well say the entire evidence they had against him was fabricated too.
There are people much more more familiar with this case, who are saying exactly that: Most evidence is fabricated. There were a lot of lies, about how they got certain data(since, what they said didn't make sense in a technical way). There was evidence used, that no court should accept, since they are easily manipulated.
Also: If there was entrapment, that is illegal in the USA, as far as I know. He is not convicted for the murder charge, there isn't even a prosecution for that and there will not be one.

Well all the ones who are saying this are obviously pro Ross and are going to say evidence was fabricated. When you get caught at your laptop logged in as DPR this argument loses a lot of credibility. I'm sure the trail wasn't fair but they didn't really need to fabricate anything when everyone can see what was going on.
7  Economy / Gambling / Re: UK Gambling Commission says UK based sites need a license! on: June 22, 2015, 09:58:57 AM
The UK Gambling Commission has written to online sportsbooks, bookmakers and casinos telling them to block anyone with a UK IP address.
Already, Direct Bet and the Fairlay Bitcoin betting exchange have implemented this today.
It's outrageous.

I can get on Directbet and all other sites just fine.

Are Direct Bet and the Fairlay Bitcoin UK based?

If not, why are they blocking UK IPs?

I don't understand why everyone seems to be taking orders from the UK Gambling Commission all of a sudden without any explanation to end users.

Any more details on this would be appreciated.

If they're providing a service to the UK then I think they still have to comply with their laws, otherwise anyone could just set up a casion based on some island somewhere but continue to operate their site in the UK market.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Pi Hut(raspberry pi online shop) accepts Bitcoin on: June 22, 2015, 09:51:05 AM
http://shop.pimoroni.com/ also accept bitcoin and sell many things related to the pi. I got a nice case from there and a few accessories such as visa mount.
9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: LiquorList.com puts up a big Bitcoin image on their home page. Kinda cool! on: June 08, 2015, 07:39:04 AM
I am not an user of LiquorList but from what I could see it is a service that allows you to buy liquor from members of that site.
So all LiquorList did was enable to people who use bitcoin to accept payment in BTC. Well, it is a progress definitely, but not that impressive as I thought initially.

But that nice huge Bitcoin logo in on the frontpage is neat.

What more do you want or could ask for? Site looks a little budget but any business or site accepting bitcoin is a big plus.

That's quite nice. Services usually put a small Bitcoin logo somewhere or a small "Bitcoin accepted here".
Bigger images are needed, on the internet and in the streets. The last time when I was trying to find something it took me 15 minutes more than it should because the Bitcoin logo wasn't either present or was very small so I must have missed it.

Normally you can't even see them or you don't notice it till the checkout page.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Starbucks HongKong accepting Bitcoin and giving 20% discount on: May 25, 2015, 05:24:24 PM
Can't say I agree with Starbucks' business practices but more companies to spend your bitcoins at is a plus, though you can get a better than 20% discount by buying Starbucks giftcards on the Marketplace here  Grin,
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "In 5 or 10 years I think every online retailer will accept Bitcoin." -Gavin on: May 25, 2015, 05:02:45 PM
The best decision for any retailer would be to have as many possible ways of accepting payment as possible.

Yup. If he decides on passing any savings on transaction costs to bitcoin users, Bitcoin will be the most popular payment option.

Why would he need to do that? Bitcoin is already very cheap to send and it's the miners that need to be adequately rewarded to keep on mining.

Thanks UK for reminding me of why I want to leave this shithole guys, oh and wait to make a self-moderated thread, that pretty much ruins any semblance of a proper debate oh and lol yes we have some pretty nasty people here in regards to that anti-tory manifesto, you guys may think the Republicans are nuts in America by comparison the 'Conservatives' here are actually pretty moderate and it's Labour who are the psychopaths in our country.

Is this the post that got deleted?

People who claim to want to have a discussion or debate do themselves no favours to their credibility by immediately using moderator powers when they feel like it.

Agreed. I don't think people should be able to self-mod threads especially not in this sub but that's why I try not to post in them. If people don't like others opinions or aren't willing to have an open discussion then I don't know why they're even here or bother trying to have a dialogue.
13  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: WTB Ebay Account on: May 11, 2015, 06:12:22 PM
You're wanting to buy an ebay account? You just want someone to create you one or are you wanting a verified one with feedback etc?
14  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-27] Fortune: Exclusive: Bitcoin company Circle raising new cash on: April 27, 2015, 07:53:53 PM
Im interested in seeing what future services they plan to offer.  They do need to do more then a simple buy and selling  of bitcoin to compete with coinbase and gemini.

Why do they have to compete with them? Bloclchain.info doesn't and it does ok. I think being a wallet or an exchange is vastly different from a payment processor though maybe you can combine all three if it hasn't been done already.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BlockChain Help on: April 12, 2015, 12:05:23 PM
All you can do is wait for it to either get confirmed or sent back to you I'm afraid. Don't worry it will sort itself out eventually.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are there any governments buying cryptos? on: March 25, 2015, 08:56:34 AM
the rules are that you print money, steal btc and buy gold. but they steal money and gold too. so theft is really the common denominator here that shows their specialty, i suppose.

Exactly. I don't think they'll care about buying btc because why bother when they can just print their own, but they'll confiscate it when they can and sell it for dirty cash. It's always funny to me how 'criminals' can't profit from crime but the police certainly can. It's a corrupt system.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Documentary Teaser on: March 12, 2015, 12:01:39 PM
Loved Alex Winter's Downloaded so will be checking this out for sure.

Looks like a "must see", when does it release?

If only there was some website that would let you search for this sort of information. I think if one was created it could become worth billions of dollars and think of how helpful it would be.

You should click the link given, details are all there.
http://bitforum.info/t/silk-road-documentary-deep-web-trailer-is-now-available/320

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic and insinuating he should use google or a search engine lol.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone Knows Hump The Bundle Porn Site? on: March 12, 2015, 11:37:31 AM
Ever heard of XXXcoin or Titcoin?

Yeah. I guess those were stepping stones in something like this. In fact, I think that some porn sites already accept bitcoin

XXX and Titcoin are pointless. This just goes to show it because why would the industry use those coins when they can just use bitcoin instead.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin In School Curriculum on: March 02, 2015, 03:25:13 PM
Yes it should be taught in schools especially in Economics classes. I think it will be shortly but bitcoin is still pretty new but I'm sure they will briefly discuss it. Maybe in the future they will study it either as an economic success or maybe even a failure if it all goes tits up.
20  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you care if Billions of people need help? on: March 02, 2015, 02:44:24 PM
A staggering number of people on Earth are starving. Others lack education, housing, and many other things which could improve their life.
If/when you become mega-rich from Bitcoin and/or at this time:
Do you care if Billions of people need help?
Any ideas what you can/will want to do to help?

ps. These are the upscale "starving children", many of the other photos are truly horrific.

2 Billions of people came out of extreme poverty in 50 years. We need to keep improving our production mechanisms, produce more, innovate and work hard. It is how you will help the weakest the most.

I think Apathy is one of the greatest human diseases. Sadly we care too much about our own children but nobody elses. I think there's always going to be some level of poverty but extreme poverty is never acceptable anywhere and can be avoided. I think more wealthy people and countries should be doing more to helping those less fortunate people countries but not under the guise of 'false charity'.
