If you are able to locate the directory (from the command prompt) where Electrum is installed, you can run the commands to start it in daemon mode. Unfortunately, I'm unable to give you specific instructions on how to do that.

Yes Python is generally portable but the packaging can vary; as in this case. You should be able to use the Windows executable that you can download from https://electrum.org/#download.

As I mentioned in my previous post. You have to recreate the certificate with a specified common name for it to work.

Electrum clients don't have a problem with self-signed certificates so no need to get a CA-signed one.
I attempted to connect to your node to debug the SSL problem and I think everything is okay except that you did not specify a Common Name for the certificate when you were creating it. You want to at least use icarus.tetradrachm.net as your common name (wildcards "*" will work just fine too) and create a new certificate. If you have the private key of the current certificate, you can attempt to create a new self-signed certificate using the same key but this time remembering to add a common name.

It is worth setting up if your host is going to be publicly accessible. With regards to setting up SSL, what you might need to understand is that clients usually cache the certificates of the hosts after connecting for the first time and if the certificate changes, they would flag the connection as possibly being MITM'ed.
Can you state exactly what you are experiencing with setting up SSL?

chriswen: This is awesome! I just trusted your gateway and I'm looking to buying some LTC and playing around with the system. Did you need to set up a rippled server to get your gateway started?

If I was over there I would be standing at ATMs and banks handing out pamphlets with bitcoin info on them and offering to sell bitcoins to people by putting my email address and QR code on the pamphlets. Of course, I would cash any Euros I got into BTC immediately to avoid the EU risk.
Looks like most people will be playing hot potato with the euro now. I wonder who's gonna end up having all these euros if people start converting them to other assets.

cool man. And I think your interest in the African market is spot on. Cell phone payment there is already big. Cheers Thanks! In deed mobile payments are big and still have a long way to go. My interest in making bitcoins popular in Africa is inspired by the ability to enable Africans pay and be paid online. Historically, e-commerce sites have been wary of taking payments from a number of African countries. I believe bitcoins have the ability to change that and finally enable Africans to participate in global e-commerce. We'll see.

RodeoX: Do you run an exchange? One of the reasons I decided to get active on the forums was to engage with other exchangers on how they got their exchanges going. I'm interested in making bitcoin and bitcoin-related services popular in Africa.

Thanks for the post. In deed, though I've been using bitcoins for almost two years and even been lurking on these forums for about that long, I realise that my education wasn't complete until I read this thread. This should definitely be on every newbie's reading list.

Hi
I've just installed Electrum and would like to know whether I can transfer Bitcoins from Electrum to Bitcoin-Qt.
I suppose that I might to use the /.electrum/electrum.dat file, right?
Thank you very much.
I have not studied the file formats for both electrum and the bitcoin-qt clients but my guess will be they are different and you cannot just copy the electrum.dat file to your wallet.dat file for Bitcoin-Qt. Here's an alternative way to transfer the bitcoins. You can send the bitcoins from the Eletrum client to any of the addresses in your Bitcoin-Qt client. Sure that will put the transaction on the bitcoin network but at least you will not be meddling with the wallets directly. HTH

After lurking in the forum for over a year and a half, I'm finally introducing myself to the community. My name is Tim and I've been a bitcoin user for about two years.
