Something similar happened early last year if you look back once the hash rate went above a certain threshold blocks started taking forever.

The interesting part was people started to get fed up, so they started mining elsewhere and the hash rate dropped off substantially, then blocks started coming left and right. I even dug out some old Block Erupter cubes at the time and set them up. Obviously this was short lived then things reached a middle ground and now it seems we're right back at that point.

I stayed put through the whole low luck period with a few miners just to see what happened. The rewards almost doubled so the end result was roughly the same. The only thing I was unable to do was time the payout as precisely.

Hash rate is LOW. Not sure what to do though, they hit a block because of it the reward is impressive, 15% to my payout per block is crazy! When the hash rate was way up you got a lot of blocks but the end result was similar.

It's almost like Triplemining, I'd wait until they were around when they usually cracked a block (kind of the gambler's fallacy), go all in for a few days then reap the benefit. Of course if luck was like this I'd be over there now.

As of this typing the hash rate was 8.3 so I powered up another miner I hadn't been using. Feel like I'm at the Casino.

Repeat of last week, slow couple of days hash rate was low so they hit a few blocks so I'm right on the threshold of my payout setting then check it to find this. Then last week I ended up waiting and because of the hash rate they hit a couple and I'm back up to 50%. Probably gonna end up in the same boat again. Guess you can't win them all. I'm not even sure how I should readjust my payout, I had it pretty well timed for 7 days for a while, now it's hard to determine.

It seems worse than the end result really was though. Hash rate was low so I ended up getting payout in almost the same time because the rewards were higher. It just feels worse. When hash rate was in the 15-16 range they were hitting a lot of blocks but at 8.5 I'm getting double the reward (well not technically double by hash rate but I double for me as I did toss another miner on because the payout per block was better).

I haven't checked the graph in a while but clicked on it anyway. I'm surprised people were complaining about Slush's luck, BW.com is running about 3 times the hash rate 9 vs 30) as Slush right now but didn't find 3 times the blocks (16 vs 39), ouch!

I agree though a little decentralization never hurt.

It's because between the longer blocks you seem to hit 3-4 in short succession which skews the percentage based on the way they compute it. So if a block takes an hour and a half which is 400% and the next block takes 12hrs which would be probably about 50% you'd still end up with something like 200%.

88-89% doesn't seem anything out of the ordinary for variance for a 3 month period. Slush has had a bad run of luck in the last two weeks or so and the drop in hash rate certainly hasn't helped. Of course the drop due to summer certainly won't help hash rates any.

I don't know if older ASICs would have anything to do with it, an old 1th/s is going to do the same but use more electricity to do it.

Hit my payout and then quite a bit of the next due to the larger payout with the low hash rate. I ended up staying on as I had a migraine most of the day and didn't feel like reconfiguring pools. So of course there is another long block.

Has anyone noticed wild up and down hash rate fluctuations on these long blocks? I was watching and when they were hitting the blocks the hash rate was very steady on the two miners I was using on Slush's, with the long block it started going up and down in wild swings in short intervals. I noticed this the last few times they've had a long block. This doesn't impact rejected work, I think I only had 24 rejects in the last 12hrs, but I did notice that my best share stats are considerably lower than typical.

Low and behold I turned on another miner when I got home this afternoon since I was close to my payout then they hit 4 blocks before I checked again this evening.

I'm about 2 blocks from my set payout after that I'm taking a break too.

As long as you know the voltages you could just lob the harnesses off and connect them exterior on the new PSU. I'd check eBay, sometimes you can snag a decent PSU on the cheap. I'm not entirely surprised by custom connectors, Visionman is a longtime server manufacturer and might have been using the same PSU for other things at one point.

9.8 now just checked. Helps smaller players like myself, if they hit a block payout is more. I'm actually tempted to go plug a few old rigs in in my basement.

If the luck goes up but the hash rate stays the same I have 3 miners ready to hop on at this rate of payout.

If you just want to try it for fun just get a few USB miners or cheap ASIC. Not that I suggest it, but as an example I bought a block erupter cube for $2 recently, which is substantially more powerful than your setup. $.10 per kW/h is way more than what I pay and I still won't run things that inefficient unless I'm using it for a space heater, but it would still be better electricity spent than running the computer for the hash rate.

After the 22hr block the next one was 47 seconds go figure.

Luck is dropping, it was artificially high because they had three blocks before the current long one and one was only 52 minutes which they consider 438% or something. Plus the long block caused the hash rate to drop, which probably doesn't help either.
