2  Economy / Service Discussion / How can I get mtgox's transaction history? 0.02 on: April 14, 2013, 06:16:30 AM
I want to look into the claim that mtgox was disrupted by bots selling/buying 0.02 bitcoins. I believe it was, but if anyone knows a way to check the past week of all trades on mtgox that would be awesome  Smiley

I know the blockchain must have a record of all transactions and since mtgox owns 80% of the transactions it might be a good place to start.

I havent downloaded the blockchain yet, but if anyone has any tips for investigating this future let me know.

Being close to PayPal was a fantastic idea. They have a HUGE customer base. I would imagine being close to them further legitimizes BitCoin, and peaks a lot of interest. Plus, it gets you closer to the people of influence. I hope you guys get a lot of attention. Very well executed!

Pretty strange they did not make any official announcement on the forum. They use a proxy company in Malaysia for WHOIS information + they don't use encryption to submit documentation and ask immediate payment of 2 BTC. It smell like a scam and OP look like a shill.

OP why not post original Reddit link? http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/11niur/any_reviews_of_bitcoindebitcom_is_this_legit/

Great job in looking to the that site.  I tried to post the redit link but when I clicked the title it just redirected me to the site. I haven't used redit much and I'm not familiar with it.

Don't you know how to copy a link from the browser address bar?
Where did you copy the site link after being redirected there? lol

Mind you I'm doing all this from my phone. I clicked the redirect post thinking it was going to redirect me to the comment section, instead it redirrected me to the site
6  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has anyone used this BitCoin debit card? on: October 17, 2012, 11:52:45 PM
They make you send a picture holding an ID and scanned copy. If I remember correctly mtgox increases your daily maximum withdrawal limit if you submit the same information.  I'm would venture to guess most bitcoin exchanges that comply with ALM use the same criteria.
*stretch of logic?* they use your information to assist their liquidation of illegally obtained bitcoin/identify thrift. Or they just want your $25 Smiley

About me being a shell: I could see why you would think so due to my small amount of posts. Arguing that I'm not is fruitless, so believe whatever you want.

Black Market Drug Site 'Silk Road' Booming: $22 Million In Annual Sales
His findings: the site’s number of sellers, who offer everything from cocaine to ecstasy, has jumped from around 300 in February to more than 550. Its total sales now add up to around $1.9 million a month. And its operators generate more than $6,000 a day in commissions for themselves, compared with around $2,500 in February.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygreenberg/2012/08/06/black-market-drug-site-silk-road-booming-22-million-in-annual-mostly-illegal-sales/

I think this puts the argument that Pirate's business is somehow related to laundering coins for silk road to rest. Pirate's interest payments completely dwarf Silk Roads operator profit and almost rivals the combined revenue of all silk road sellers combined.

I just thought of something, I haven't seen this brought up before, but Silk Roads owner goes by the name Dread Pirate Roberts... Now, thats something to think about...
It's been discussed.
$6000 a day wouldn't have been enought to keep BS&T going.

Agreed, but when you consider that SR charges 150.00 bucks to be a vendor, charges 6 percent to have access at your escrow money and another 5 percent to hedge the vendors bitcoin. Along with other data that they couldn't get or see, I would argue that SR is bringing in much more than 6k a day..

But, it does seem very unlikely that the two are connected, for one, SR looks to be a smooth operating machine and I don't think pirate40 would be able to run something like that...

The whole thing just makes me sick..

i love every part of it. My guess, he pays most if not all back.
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Want stability?? on: August 22, 2012, 05:37:29 AM
offer futures and options. being able to hedge adds to stability, i think. Find a way to do allow short selling on borrowed bitcoins and margin calls, doesnt that also support stability?
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Quick question: Does any site offer the ability to short sell? on: August 20, 2012, 02:14:10 AM

Thanks! looking at it now.
13  Economy / Trading Discussion / Quick question: Does any site offer the ability to short sell? on: August 20, 2012, 01:58:39 AM

Just noticed this, I already RSVPed. Cant wait to talk to some like minded people! Tagging along with me is an ex- hedge fund manager. He still speculates in commodities and ForEX. I'm a business admin/econ student as well, should be a lot of fun. I'll bring a nice bottle of scotch for us  Wink
15  Economy / Economics / Re: sudden drop in bitcoin value? on: August 19, 2012, 10:32:41 PM
It wasn't "official" that hes stopping right? Meaning he didnt say it on this forum. I'm not saying he isnt closing up shop, just wondering if all we have to go by is the IRC chat text people have been sourcing to.
Wouldn't it be great if he just did some rumor mongering to force the price down just to buy back lol. people preemptively sell because they suspect pirates clients will sell after the depositors get their money back. I can go on for hours completely unsubstantiated WOOT

18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wire transfer to tradehill, forgot deposit number. Lost $1500? on: October 30, 2011, 09:45:24 PM
In the future I wouldn't post transaction details on the forum.

Tradehill probably just got a half dozen emails from people saying that they deposited $x on y day via wire and forgot account number.

Oh shit. Thanks. Wont do that again.
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wire transfer to tradehill, forgot deposit number. Lost $1500? on: October 30, 2011, 08:48:04 PM
I guess when you contact them, they should see an 'undefined' deposit.  Probably if you give them enough details (where, when, etc) they'll clear things up.

Make sure you do it privately.

Thank you very much. Yes I will do it privately. Tradehill is not known for ripping people off correct? They seem like a good company.

If anyone cares to comment on this, or this has ever happened to
you, please let me know.
