I notice the site has the alert:

Quote
Update 3/19/2012: Unfortunately, some cash deposit orders made on Monday the 19th may be delayed a day or two. If your order has been delayed longer than 24 hours, contact us at support@get-bitcoin.com for a fee refund.

That happened to my friend, who e-mailed them about it and big surprise, they haven't responded.

Edit: Got the coins today! now waiting on a refund.

I wouldn't hold your breath.  They offered me one and asked for a bitcoin address.  After giving it to them, they coins never showed up.  I don't really care.  I've since stopped using them.

My biggest issue is that they always purchase coins way over the Mt. Gox price, which screws me up because it's so unpredictable.  I can only assume this is to make more money.  I'd be fine with them charging a higher commission, because I can calculate that.  But when the Mt. Gox high is $5.20 and they buy them at $5.50 and I'm expecting a certain amount of coins, it doesn't work.  Oh well.  I'd gladly go back to using them if they fixed this and were a little more professional.

Edit: Actually, a friend just told me that his recent order was much closer to the Mt. Gox price than I've had experience with.

I've had a few transactions with them that were pretty smooth.  The only problem was taking 24+ hours to get my invoice to pay them.

Now however, I have sent them some money and they just have not fulfilled the order.  I've e-mailed 3 times asking about it and haven't heard anything back.  I have made 2 orders since then that have been fulfilled, so I'm not sure what's going on.  They have had my money since the 30th.  I'm sure this is likely a mistake (I'm thinking it could be related to having 2 orders of the same amount open at the same time) but the lack of communication is concerning.  It's only a small amount, but it's still incredibly frustrating that I placed the order when btc was a dollar cheaper and they're just holding onto my money for a week past their estimated 24 hour turn around.

Edit: They just fulfilled it.  Like I had thought, they did have it confused with my other order.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer - LTC/FBX/TBX on: January 05, 2012, 09:52:40 PM
Is it possible to compile it under ubuntu 10.04? I am getting the following error.

./configure: line 5013: syntax error near unexpected token `,'
./configure: line 5013: `LIBCURL_CHECK_CONFIG(, 7.10.1, ,'

I have the previous version running without issues on the system getting this error.

Thank you!

You need libcurl and libcurl-dev.  Run automake again, then configure.

Edit: You'll have to undo what automake did.  It seems like there's a command, but I forgot it, so I just deleted the directory and unzipped it again.

Problem is, people mine litecoin only if they are worth something, but the fact that we can mine them on cpu won't make them automatically worth something.

This is the biggest problem I see with litecoin.  So far, basically all you can do with them is trade them for bitcoin or usd.

I think you are confused.  It wasn't botnet mining that brought down BTC Guild.  BTC Guild banned a botnet and then they ATTACKED (not mined but launched a syn flood attack) the major pools in retribution.  The fact that BTC Guild kicked them off indicates that prior to being kicked off they were mining just fine on the pool.

I guess so.  There was an announcement somewhere along the lines of "Dear botnet owner, the servers can't handle all the traffic from your bots, so I have to block you." so that would be pretty misleading.  Or maybe that wasn't BTCG.  Then a couple days later I couldn't get any CPU miners to connect to BTCG and went into the IRC channel to ask what's up and the admin said they're all blocked on his pool, because of botnets and stale shares.

Looks like the new "pay directly with your bank account" feature requires you to sign up for Bank of America's Payment Center.  You don't have to have a BofA account, but you DO have to wait for verification deposits to your bank account.  So if you're just waiting to try it until you get your paycheck or whatever, you may want to start setting up your Payment Center account ASAP, to get the 3 days to verify the bank account won't set you back any more.

Well, you basically just confirmed what I was saying on the first point.  Not sure how they'd limit it to 40% CPU or something though.  I would like a way to do that on certain things.

I was under the impression that it'd be prohibitively expensive to get a server for a private pool with ~250k workers.  And that that many workers will kill any of the public pools, even with their multiple servers.  BTC Guild had that problem.  Somebody was obviously using a botnet and it DDoSed them, so now all CPU clients are banned.  I also assumed it'd be damn near impossible to manage 250k computers using a bunch of different pools.  I don't know.  I haven't read about how botnet works since back when they were controlled via private IRC channels, heh.

They have an option to transfer from your bank account now.  I attempted it.  They said they'd send an e-mail with instructions how to do it, but I have yet to receive it.

As mentioned elsewhere, there is a problem with mining with a botnet.  People start to suspect things are wrong with their computer when it starts slowing down like it would if it was using 100% CPU to mine.  I guess if they could restrict it to only use a certain amount of CPU it would be less detectable.  I have noticeable lag even with it set on lowest priority using all cores of my 2600k.

Also, wouldn't it take a long time for a bunch of small computers to solo mine?  And if using a pool, wouldn't it effectively DDoS the pool, like what happened with BTC Guild?

You can think up all the scenarios you want, but history in economics has shown that factors never previously considered often show up and change the game.  That's the only thing I can predict with litecoin.

If I'd known about this 4 hour thing earlier I'd have registered before I felt the need to post. Eh.

Guess this is an introduction anyway.

In the meantime, if anyone else with a vague knowledge of banking/UK law wants to go over to the Intersango thread and point out the only legal reason a bank can freeze an account without explanation then please do.  Smiley

Yeah, seriously.  I don't just sign up for forums when I start browsing them.  I lurk until I feel I need to ask a question or contribute.
