1  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User TruCoin is a scammer on: July 25, 2014, 02:55:17 PM
Gentlemen,

Just to be clear, there are two very different things going on here:

1) A random (an apparent scammer) registered the username "TruCoin"

2) My company, Trucoin, has launched the world's fastest way to buy bitcoin in eight (soon to be 30) US states.

We have no control over what usernames people select on forums.  The maintainers of this forum have refused to assist us in clearing this up, but it's their site, and therefor their choice to make.

However, I do believe that the bitcoin community is smart enough to know the difference between a random forum user and a legitimate company.

If you have any questions, we're always available to answer them at trucoin.com.

Best regards,
Chris Brunner
2  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Trucoin Opens MasterCard, Visa Bitcoin Buying Services in US on: July 20, 2014, 02:07:29 AM
OROBTC, I'm happy to hear that you had such an excellent experience.  Welcome to Trucoin!

90% of the time, activation takes less than two minutes.  It sounds like you were subject to the worst-case scenario, though, which is manual review.  I'm glad our team got your account manually approved before too long, and we look forward to serving you.

Please drop us a note if we can ever assist you.
3  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buy BTC with Credit Cards! on: July 16, 2014, 04:51:39 PM
thanks for finding and posting that. I thought credit cards and bitcoin were frowned upon due to the chargeback risk. maybe this company hasn't figured it out yet

I would argue the opposite.  It's true that there is a significant chargeback risk when accepting card payments for bitcoin, but we've spent a tremendous amount of time and money developing a fraud mitigation system that minimizes this risk.  Thanks to this, it's possible for us to offer the general public the ability to set up an account in less than two minutes, and then take delivery of bitcoin within seconds of placing each order.

If you're in one of our eight states, I'd love to hear your feedback after trying it out.
4  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stealth dark pool orders on Mt. Gox, Bitstamp, and BTC-E on: July 16, 2013, 06:42:33 PM
fyi
campbx has dark pool orders on their exchange. bitfinex has dark pool orders on their exchange and on bitstamp, but only for large (500+ coins) orders.

Yes, but this allows you to place dark pool orders on Mt. Gox, Bitstamp, and BTC-E, and any other exchanges they add support for, regardless of whether or not the underlying exchanges natively support that functionality.  This is also for orders of any size, not just for large orders.

any automated trading system capable of the same thing.

Do you mean homebrew software?  I wasn't aware of anything available to the general public that was capable of this.
6  Economy / Service Discussion / Stealth dark pool orders on Mt. Gox, Bitstamp, and BTC-E on: July 16, 2013, 03:36:21 PM
Folks,

The trading platform that TruCoin is launching today allows users to place stealth dark pool orders on all of the major exchanges.  The stealth orders are hidden from the public until the order executes.  So, they don't show up in any of the public market depth tables or charts.

I can discretely place large orders now without affecting the market!

Thoughts?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Full Disclosure] More likely MtGox Post-Mortem on: June 21, 2011, 05:29:57 AM
I agree that everyone should read this.

So, assuming the one 'user' with 500k BTC was MagicalTux, or someone close to him:

1) Gox launches with swiss cheese for security
2) Gox ignores all warning about being vulnerable, and continues to tell users they're safe
3) Gox gets hacked
4) Magical Tux's BTC gets sold for pennies
5) Magical Tux wants to roll back the transactions to get his bitcoin back

Am I missing something?
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preview build of our new client (only for the adventurous!) on: June 20, 2011, 08:14:27 PM
You had me until:

  • UI is currently a .Net Windows Forms app.

Agreed, but I would argue that:
1) This is a vast improvement over the default Bitcoin GUI
2) They probably aren't targeting linux users at all...

So, as much as I can't stand .Net, poorer choices could have been made.

I support this project, and I'm happy to see the progress.

Well done, guys.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An idea of making payment of software with bitcoin on: June 14, 2011, 07:44:43 AM
What we really need is an amazon.com that only accepts bitcoins.

It's on the way.  Mid-July.
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should the exchanges close on the weekends? on: June 12, 2011, 06:55:21 AM
No

Agreed.  That's just dumb.

If you want to personally forgo trading at certain times of the day, have at it.

However, the exchanges are privately owned, and can decide on their own what times of day and days of the week they will be open for business.

If you start an exchange, you'll be free to set the business hours.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Speculators have bailed, good, PLEASE start building bitcoin businesses now on: June 11, 2011, 06:31:30 PM
Trust me.  There are many people who are actively working on building bitcoin businesses that have nothing to do with speculation.

My partners and I, for example, are employing 12 programmers and designers to bring our next project to market before mid July.  We have other projects in the oven, as well, that are actively being developed by a completely different set of programmers.

Our goal is to increase the utility of bitcoin...

I'm working with others whom the Bitcoin veterans would recognize.  If you're *already* working on something, and would like to explore working on something with us, please contact me.

If you only have ideas, but wouldn't follow through on your own, please do NOT contact me -- I do not want to work with you.  If you've got something in the works and think your contribution might complement ours, or that we might be able to use our resources to bring something (that you're already working on) to market faster, please contact me.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scott Horton of Antiwar Radio on: April 04, 2011, 05:53:38 PM
Scott is a friend of mine.

My guess is that he'd be very receptive to the idea, although it's not entirely on-topic for his radio show.  That's not to say he wouldn't be willing to talk about it, though.

I can put someone in touch, if they want to speak to him about BitCoin.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The term "mining" has got to go on: April 04, 2011, 05:51:22 PM
I actually agree that "mining" is not the best term to use and that "minting" is even worse.

It scares off libertarians and economists who believe in sound money.

When I'm describing BitCoin to people for the first time, I often refer to them as "transaction processors" or "distributed transaction processors".

Long name, but easier to understand for most people I'm talking to, and far, far less scary.

Just my two cents.
14  Economy / Economics / Re: Sniff ... do you smell smoke? on: February 19, 2011, 05:56:09 PM
Nowhere.  Even Europeans have to buy oil inUS$ due to the Bretton Woods Treaty.  The Russians & Chinese would buy/sell oil in gold or their own currencies in a heartbeat if that wouldn't get them sideways with the US fed.

Exactly.  Saddam Hussein tried to start an oil exchange that wasn't denominated in USD, and then he was taken out of power by the US government.

Iran started saying they were going to do the same thing, and again we heard the war drums beat again.

The US Government is pretty clear on their stance about this...
