1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hardware ver. x.x.x.x on: July 03, 2017, 02:13:25 PM
Ok, so I figured it out yesterday. I will post my findings here. Searches on Google bring up this issue on this forum, and several other sites. There is no resolution ever posted. I stumbled across a Russian forum that google stumbled through translating. That person was having the same issue with one of his miners. He moved it to another location for troubleshooting and it worked fine. The only thing that changed according to him was the network.

I do not know what network connection has to do with the BB board properly loading firmware and recognizing the connected hash boards but apparently it does.

I checked my router, I use an ASUS RT-AC68U, saw there was another firmware update, so I updated. After the update I was checking through some other settings. The log showed the "AiProtect" app was blocking malicious activity and sending alert emails. I received no emails of the sort, so that may be another issue. The ip addresses it was blocking were all for my miners. I turned off all settings for the AiProtect app built in to the ASUS router and BAM! green status lights and we're off to the races.

So switching off that protection as ASUS calls it and the hardware version on the miner no longer shows x.x.x.x and the cgminer field now has the version number and the miner status page shows all pools, board status, fan speeds, and temps, and the boards are hashing again.

So for those that run into this problem in the future:

Bitmain says the device "has lost its firmware" and tells you to reboot the device or reflash using a microSD. While this may be a viable solution for some, it may be easier to check network settings first, especially if more that one device is affected.

I know this post is a few months old, so I'm sorry for resurrecting it.

When I do a search only 2 threads come up, this one and another one. There is no resolution to either poster's problem

I am having the same issue with my miners

I WAS running an S5, 2 S7-LN's, and an S7

In late march/ early April they ALL stopped hashing.

The overview page shows "Hardware Version x.x.x.x"

The miner status page is completely blank no info there at all. Chip status, fan speed, pools, all blank.

Bitmain Support lists this exact issue on their website under item number 7 I believe and says that the miner has lost its firmware, reload and reboot.

Well its not that simple, and it didnt work

I have also replaced the BB board, and control board, and imaged several different microSD cards, all with no change in the miner at all. I have even booted them with the hash boards disconnected to try to eliminate them from the equation, with no luck either.

I have been communicating with bitmain support which has been helpful, but unproductive.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Was there ever any resolution?

I have already lost 3 months of mining, I would like to get this figured out if anyone can help me trouble shoot please.

the stats fixed ?

maybe they did some sort of reboot ?

hashrate was all over the place for abt 10 days or so.

Hash rate is still over stated on the 10 minute interval.

Now what I would really like to know is how and why the pool address was changed to the antpool solo pool on ALL my miners? They are at 2 different locations and I am the only one that can log into them. So somehow bitmain/antpool changed it from their side?
Yes any pool can redirect you to another pool of the same name - using stratum.

I coded in the protection (a couple of years ago) into cgminer to restrict it to the same domain name.
So stratum is allowed to redirect spv.antpool.com to badforbitcoin.antpool.com

Thanks for the info. I have never heard that before. Learn something new everyday!

just switched my miners to slush pool (mining.bitcoin.cz) just in case, what pool are you guys using as backup for antpool?

I usually keep mine configured to whatever the top 3 pools are in order to maintain consistent payouts. May not be the right way or the most popular way but it works for me.

Also, just because the website is down doesn't mean the pool itself it down. Antpool still seems to be running fine, and found 4 of the last 8 blocks.

Pool website down for anyone?

yep, website has been showing inaccurate data for me the last few days. Had a feeling this was coming...

miners still show pool as alive, but you should always have a backup configured for failover

I sent a pm to get on the list if you guys are still printing these!!

I own a metal fab shop, would anyone be interested in either galvanized, aluminum or stainless covers for their S5s? Cardboard is a really bad idea.

I'd be interested, what kind of price do you think ballpark?

Not sure, I need to get my hands on the dimensions. I'd likely use galvanized to keep the price as low as possible. Looks like I'd need to knock out 6 holes per capping with the water jet, 4 PCI-e and 2 data ribbons. I might try to get my hands on a dead or cheap S5 locally to get proper measurements.

It would be 4 holes for the pci-e, and 8 holes for the screws since I imagine you would use the same mounting location. The ribbons would not need to be outside the cover.

question about these, i dont like how the top is all open, they will get very dusty after awhile.

if i cut some cardboard to fit the opening and tape it down.. making holes in it where the plugs go.. would that void the warranty at all?
would it cause any effects? the fan seems to blow enough air, so i dont think that will make them get hot?

it might even quiet it down some..

I did something like this with mine. I used a thin piece of plastic and trimmed up a top and side plates and taped it all together. I also set up my scythe grand flex pwm fans as push pull. I am running 64/65 temps and it seems just as quiet as my s3's. I will be testing other fan combinations over the next few days to see if I can get it under 60 and keep it quiet without underclocking. If anyone is interested I can post pics and results with what I find out.

As usual with Bitmain, we pre-ship again!  (Shipped Earlier than announced)

It was great getting the news that my S5 shipped before the 30th. However mine is being held up in customs. Fedex is asking for an FCC form 740. Any help with this would be great as I don't know any of the information they want on the form.

anyone else interested pm me with offers for my S5 coupon.
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 19, 2015, 08:49:21 PM

My personal recommendation is 2x S3 fans if you've got them lying around or my go to is the SP120 Performance editions /994pId][Without affiliate] /aTtqhF][With affiliate]. There are also PWM versions if you think you'll need it in the future /464xEn][Without affiliate] /ULI5ny][With affiliate]. They're right at the barrier between high performance and not being too annoying and I generally use them on most miners I silence.

Fans like the SP120 will plug directly into an S5 and aren't silent but aren't horrific. They're ~2200 rpm with a high static pressure which is required in a situation like this more than just straight 'CFM' ratings. You don't tend to get LEDs on fans like this and above as they usually all go into servers and such like. There is a similar AF120 series which is LED, but isn't suitable for S5s as they're not powerful enough.

If I may ask a follow up question. How would the Scythe Grand Flex PWM compare to the SP120's? On paper they spin up to the same RPM, similar dBA, but the CFM and Static pressure is much higher on the Grand Flex model. Has anyone tried this on the S5?

I'm still waiting for my s5, but I am trying to get my research done now because noise will be an issue. I have 8 of the Grand Flex fans in the box and it would be nice knowing I don't have to purchase new fans. My goal will be to get the S5 as close to S3 noise levels as possible without sacrificing much cooling.

I've received a few PM's regarding my coupon. At this time I am slightly more interested in acquiring additional coupons but if I don't get any takers I will get rid of mine before it expires.

So if we ordered at higher than the $340 price point will we get coupons? Smiley haha

I ordered at a higher price and just got a $54 usd coupon for the S5.

Who did you contact to get the coupon? I ordered (2) S5's at a higher price last week.

I emailed support yesterday and just told them I wanted the difference refunded since my order has not shipped yet. They responded this morning with the coupon. (info@bitmaintech.com)
