1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer or PSU issue? on: May 11, 2015, 03:54:26 AM
Hey all! Thanks for the information. It was a really cheap PSU... Insignia NS-PCW4050 I have 1 for each S3 miner I have... unfortunately they trip off... I am in the process of changing frequency speed... I did purchase a new 1000 PSU from Amazon that looks like it has some pretty good review... I got a Rosewill RBR1000-M 1000-Watt Bronze Series 80. It arrives tomorrow, it seems pretty nice. There were good reviews on it.

PSU's are honestly a investment you will use them for multiple generations if you pick a nice one.  Some of the low quality ones are even scary to mine with.  The worst use cheap guage wire to split pci-e cables.

If you split a pci-e with cheap guage wire.... and use on a miner you get melting possibly flames.

And if you get a nice psu keep the box and all you can sell it if ever comes to that.  PSU's not a whole lot really changes on.  A nice PSU this year will be a nice PSU next year.  Only advancement I have seen is some more that can hook up to a computer and give some readings.  But that in no way is needed.

Thank you for the information... I will be very happy with the Rosewill I think. From what I read on it, it is a very good PSU...

3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Antminer or PSU issue? on: May 09, 2015, 06:17:31 PM
I just purchased an ANTMINER S3 and I am attempting to get it running.. i have a 400W PSU for each antminer S3. I am having issues with the PSU just powering off... I am assuming that it is because it is being overloaded... but I am not sure... Any suggestions, and updates on a better PSU?

Is fan frequency high and when it become silent, is it too hot?

I haven't used S3, so I don't know about it. Haven't you tried normal way of using ethernet? Connect when it is off and them switch on it?

I have noticed that the fan is running at a higher rate when it shuts down... I was thinking it was getting too hot. I cannot seem to figure out how to change the clock speed... I havent tampered with the clock speed but when I got it i bought it used... So whoever was using it before it is still set at that clock speed.

Hey all.

First off, I would like to thank you all for helping a n00b with these issues.. I am sure they are simple but not for me.

I am having an issue with my Antminer S3... for the past two days it seems to be hashing along just fine then it will go completely silent. the green light on the front will be off and it seems the miner shuts down. Any suggestions?

Also, I am using wifi with the miner at the moment. I am wanting to use ethernet rather than wifi.. how do I safely switch it to the ethernet from wifi? (The Antminer page is foreign to me)

Thank you all in advance!

-C

what is the address of your miner?  192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.0.xxx or ?

once you know the address the rest moves along well.

It's 192.168.0.3

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Antminer S3 on MAC OSX on: April 16, 2015, 02:27:43 PM
OS has nothing stopping it from configuring S3.  Are you able to access miner?

Thats what I am having difficulty doing is changing the subnet from 0 to 1.

Hey all,

I know the S3s are standalone.. i am having issues connecting with it to configure it... any suggestions? I went through Doges comprehensive guide but since i am running a different OS I was not able to follow 100%.

So I am using MacMiner 1.5.18 for Snow Leopard. Every time I attempt to open up the program I get a crash report. I have tried to open it up immediately after installation. I also have tried after downloading BFGMiner 5 and replaced the BFGMiner and JAN file in the MacMincer package contents... still failing.. this is a script from the crash report I am getting... I had to wipe and reinstall everything on the computer so I am attempting to reinstall macminer.

Hey all,

I am diving into mining head first! I have purchased 2 S3 miners from a friend and should get them in tomorrow. How would I go about setting up the BITMAIN ANTMINER S3s and getting it to mine along with my RockMiner New R Box? I looked at Dogies guide and couldnt find a MacMiner miner installation and setup.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

So I have my ROCKMINERs up and going... I went ahead and downloaded the BFGMINER 5 and replaed the following Files:
BFGMINER
CURL
JANSSON
LIBEVENT
LIBIDN
LIBSUB
LIBMICROHTTPD
OPENSSL

It is up and running hashing at around 147 Gh/s. I have ran into a new issue though.. it is not showing me updated hash speed at the top of the MacMiner status bar. Any Suggestions?

At least you wont lose your gold to scammers if you stash it in a box somewhere..

You wouldn't lose bitcoin to scammers either if you just kept it inside a paper wallet or cold storage.

I would definitely invest in precious metal. Precious metal investing is how I got started in investing. I am now a novice dabbler in Bitcoin. I have invested heavily in Silver over the past year due to its low price. AG is at some of its lowest in the past 5 years. hovering anywhere between 14.40 and 16.50 USD per .999 Pure OZ of AG. (Spot value is not included on this)

With Spot, it is like a transaction fee based off of the brand or type of silver you are buying... If you were buying JM Bullion, you would expect to pay anywhere from 2 - 5 USD over spot, whereas buying Sunshine Mint, you arent paying as much. Personally, a majority of my collection is JM Bullion due to each bullion bar 1 OZ or greater is stamped with its own personal ID Code.

I see. Have you profited from silver yet? If so, how much?

Don't invest in gold unless you have a lot of money. It's not worth it. If you're looking to invest in a precious metal I'd recommend silver.

Yes, I see your point. One OZ of gold already hurts my pockets. Cheesy

I have not made much of a difference. For me it is more about backing your paper wealth with a precious metal wealth.. If I invest in Silver, and the US Economy goes to heck... then I would still recoop my financial wealth with the silver I own by using it since it still has retained its global value.

I'm planning to expand my horizons from bitcoin to precious metals. I'm still holding btc, but I'd like to spread my investments.

Opinions? I'm also based in the Philippines and from what I've heard, gold and silver trading isn't really common here.

I'd also like to hear experiences from people who've already tried investing in gold/silver. Smiley

It shouldn't be that rare. There are so many possible addresses that a 3 letter word could be included in. Too many for it to make something rare.

Have a look here for more details on how many complications for address could ever exist:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=24268.0

But to summarize, 2^160, means that there are so many that even if every computer in this earth was using its max power to create addresses it would take ages to create all the possible complications. You could also create vanity addresses that would look like 1Gay....

It is interesting to research how BTC Addresses came to be.. I just found it hilarious that I was assigned that address....

Cheers!

I have no idea about your main question but no one around here should give a flip about your preferences in the least. As a republican that leans libertarian, it's so obnoxious that social cons worry that their world is faultering when gay folk express their opinions and choices about their lifestyles. So annoying, like stop this garbage of caring whether someone does this or that. Let's move the price upward and then focus on that.

I could care less about you knowing I'm gay. I just thought it was humerus that the word gay was a part of my Bitcoin afdress. You clearly have read too much into this friendly post and took it more for what it really is. My sharing my orientation as background information for the delivering of why having the word gay is comical, to me anyway, in my Bitcoin address. But what it comes down to. I suppose I Care as much about what you do and who you are as much as you care about my orientation. Smiley

Take care my friend,

Hey all I thought I would share part of my Bitcoin address.... I was typing it the other day and realized what I was typing!!!! posted below is part of my address: 1JAsFKGAYup***********************

Ironically, I am gay. What are the statistical chances of getting an address like that?! I better start solo mining Tongue

Ok, total ignorance here.. is that located under FPGA/ASIC Miner Options / Devices Manual Flags: ? ifso I have this pasted: with nothing else.-S rkm:all --set rkm:clock=290

Sounds as though you've got it it up right, here's how it should look

If that doesn't work you can either copy the bfgminer folder from the latest non 10.6 version at
MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer

and use it to replace the one in the 10.6 version.

Right click the apps and show package contents to get inside them.

It's probably also worth copying over the jansson folder too, although you can skip that part unless you get a new wrong library version error after replacing your bfgminer in 10.6 MacMiner

Hmm... yeah that is how i have it set up. I am out of state for work. I will be back on Thursday. I will definitely give it a try then.

So i just imputed that information and was given this.  [2015-03-21 23:29:40] /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer: --set: unrecognized option

Please copy paste your FPGA/ASIC window manual flags here for me, it may be formatted incorrectly
