1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: March 19, 2016, 10:09:37 PM
After the fix, the price seems to be creeping up.

Maybe now that ETH, DASH, FCT, XMR, EXP ETC have all have their turns, XCP can enjoy a nice rise too.

Seems it's already occurring.... just went up by 32%

If you agree and care about this, I would encourage you to contact BTC38 at  Support@mail.btc38.com (email or skype) to request CounterParty's inclusion.

BTC38 was weird why they don't list when peoples vote also with their money.

Yuanbaohui.com have been interested add Counterparty and I hope they will take it and we can get finally first Chinese exchange.

Bitfinex have also look more seriously Counterparty and we maybe must start campaign it for them. So please send emails and tell them about Counterparty and what it actually is. Any other exchanges even aren't interest talk about things. When you get that auto reply message from some exchange don't stop to communicate, tell them more, explain more and make they understand.

Sell them volume and fees not only from Counterparty, but also from Storjcoin X and Bitcrystals what are really great projects. Explain them this projects also in messages what you are sending. Now when volumes have grow already if we get XCP to some exchange and get more volume it will come more easy to go next one.

Btw are in Counterparty community anyone who speak and write Chinese?

Also if someone can help make this application form full with english (also with chinese if someone can) so it is sure right. There have been discussion with them, but we can also sending this to normal support who forward it then to right guys.  http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=97179928603380862332

+1 I have again contacted with BTC38 on QQ and the message is that XCP "is under review for adding, depend on interest" So I encourage this community to lobby for the inclusion of this coin to more exchanges- the more voices who ask to trade this on alternate platforms than polo, the better,  also both Yuanbaohui and bitfinex are good ideas too and perhaps might respond in more reasonable time.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XCP] CounterParty discussion & speculation on: March 12, 2016, 10:55:10 PM
My 2 cents: Blockchains can do much more than just payments. One interesting observation is, in our quest to make the Bitcoin blockchain do more than remittances, we have to abandon BTC as the unit of account. Take colored coins, Counterparty, Ethereum, or sidechains for instance. None of these systems uses actual BTC as the unit of account. Not even sidechains will use the BTC unit of account. Instead they have to invent a brand new way to lock up the BTC unit of account and release an alternate unit of account that isn't as limited.

And if you believe the Bitcoin blockchain is the strongest chain, but aren't comfortable with hard forking Ethereum into Bitcoin Core, (never gonna happen) then systems like Counterparty are a valid approach.

Quote
"My personal opinion is that XCP-style meta-consensus systems are the next generation from here, at least as far as Bitcoin-based protocols are concerned". -- Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum lead dev

Quote
"So, Counterparty sucks because it is too powerful?
I was involved in the colored coins project for a few months before I moved to my position that XCP-style systems are strictly superior to CC in basically every possible way (and moved to Ethereum full-time, but I will say that Ethereum is not superior to CC in every possible way because it is not directly based on Bitcoin so doesn't have as nice interoperability properties" -- Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum lead dev

Quote
Our compatibility with Ethereum smart contracts is at the virtual machine level, so it doesn't matter what language (Serpent, Solidity, LLL, etc.), you write the contracts in---they'll run on both Counterparty and Ethereum the same. Between the Counterparty and the Ethereum communities, we'll figure out what languages we want to write contracts in and develop those. -- Adam Krellenstein, Counterparty lead dev

So we have a system which is entirely compatible with what is arguably Ethereums biggest selling points (turing complete dApps/smart contracts) with the real negative of slower block times but the real positive of a stronger, battle tested chain with a comparatively long established ecosystem.

And yet..

CounterParty current market cap: $2.70 Million
Ethereum current market cap:      $1.37 Billion

Ethereum is worth 378 times as much as CounterParty, ($1.35 Billion more!) Personally I think that disparity is too large to remain forever.  XCP is valued around 10 times less than of it's ATH. If Ethereums vision of programmable money in the form of smart contracts takes off, then we will have a wealth of code ready to be ported across to run on bitcoin blockchain too.

The only choice to run them on the bitcoin blockchain is Counterparty. CounterPartys gas costs are deductible in XCP which is removed from supply upon contract execution, rewarding XCP holders. XCP is also deflationary due to being debited when registering 'premium' alphanumeric asset names, and so far near 50k assets have been brought out of nearly 500k total transactions.  With a fairly limited total supply (2.6MM) of coin, and a new well-funded fintech offshoot in the form of Symbiont incorporating CounterParty in their stack an uptrack in asset registration and usage of smart contracting when the feature is greenlighted on main-net could feasibly raise the price up an order of magnitude back to previous heights, at least.

I'm trying to locate their right address on their Chinese website

Hmm.. Seemed to work before. Maybe their mail servers are down. You can also try the following address:

Short term upwards price movements are cool and all after a rafter of crashes.. not as nice as slow steady uptrend ofc. but more interesting metric is volume. For accurate price discovery this is a crucial element.
It's prime time to capitalize on Ethereum delerium and gain market share. as this project is superbly positioned with smart contract compatibility. It's just that's everyones forgotten.

Sidenote: A while back we were supposed to be listed on BTC38. The community voted and XCP is in first place still. However, It never ended up materializing. and CounterParty isn't present on that exchange till now.  I feel inclusion on that platform would be greatly beneficial to trade volume and allowing XCP into the hands of a more diverse base of users.

If you agree and care about this, I would encourage you to contact BTC38 at  Support@mail.btc38.com (email or skype) to request CounterParty's inclusion.

Hi guys, just wanted to update you all on current progress.

The next version of counterparty-lib (9.53.0) will soon be released (https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-lib/pull/832) -- it includes plenty of performance enhancements and bug fixes, and will be a recommended upgrade for everyone running the software. After this, we will release Counterwallet 1.7 (https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterwallet/tree/develop), as well as a new version of counterblock.

Thanks for you and the team working so dilligently! Appreciate the update on the latest releases

For those interested in the technical details, you can see the new versions, which have gone live on github with commit logs. Glad to see 80 byte OP_RETURN make it in!

Familiar with Spells of Genesis and Tokenly.  Will look into both of those further.  Thank you very much!

You're welcome. Another implementation of meta-tokens being used in a game can be found in the iOS app SaruTobi [1] , [2]
it's fairly easy to setup using the indiesquare tools. [3].  You can view the distribution of the token here [4] , [5]
If you need help integrating tokens into your project, or for further inspiration you can find the community here: https://counterparty.slack.com/messages/indiesquare-wallet/

Have a look at what spells of genesis is doing for some inspiration. It's the most mature Bitcoin based implementation  I'm aware of.

Also, Tokenly on GitHub provides a suite of tools enabling Bitcoin based tokenisation / gamification. Rewards/assets can be traded on centralised or decentralised exchanges p2p after being acquired in-game.

This looks like a cool project that could potentially work on counterparty.

https://www.reddit.com/r/cypherpoker/comments/3ytanx/cypherpoker_2016/

Also little interview with Symbionts Mark Smith. Here

https://vimeo.com/151649176

Seems some users have lost faith in open source side of project but watching this gives me extra hope that this is one of the few competent crypto projects in this space, (active for over 2 years, that's not to be sniffed at) still the most active 2.0 platform, still the only Bitcoin based smart contracting platform and still a project with a tangible value proposition. All of the team are proficient, moving in professional circles and targeting professional markets, not anonymous and in a early mover position to be well funded on Symbiont side of things in relative stealth mode with their disruptive tech. Whether or not that translates to continuing traction on the open source side remains to be seen but iMO it worked for red hat Linux et al and there is no other project like it in altcoin space other than Bitcoin itself with simultaneous chance of vertical integration so I'm happy to be a part of it.

Also looking forwards to the results of the coding competition!

Puts a different slant on what actually happened with the parting of their working relationship Shocked

yeah.. assuming the article isn't completely sensationalist. I think in retrospect,  listening to institutional investors opinion on OSTK managment antics, previous controversy (in and out of wall st) eg: http://archive.fortune.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2005/11/14/8360711/index.htm http://www.valuewalk.com/2015/03/overstock-com-judd-bagley/ http://garyweiss.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/closing-file-on-criminal-and-junkie.html and  actually taking the time to analyse any of the CEO's jumbled speeches "you may think you own stock but you don't".. let me tell you about cede and co etc.. which all seem to follow an identical prompt it becomes more reasonable to believe a less than amicable split occured due to a cloudy or misaligned future vision and lack of any real prowess in the field; for starters.., I along with others fell into the camp of supporting OSTK as they are a multinational and were talking the same book as us (and bitcoiners in general)..glossing over the less than favorable elements of the perceived relationship, and frankly that's just greedy and short sighted.

i think the news the split wasn't all rainbows and inicorns also lends credence to the theory that Overstock did indeed dump XCP on the market, immediately summoning the decline from 0.10 to near todays level

Byrne and co did a massive disservice to any investors of this project, and everything about it was handled simply awfully. Trusting investment decisions on this tweet https://twitter.com/overstockceo/status/520254771890884608 and the announcement re:partnership at the inside bitcoins conference, then assuming that us as public investors would be privvy to the fact a silent pivot was done in the shadows ceasing the working relationship for  OSTK to instead champion a competing project has resulted in huge losses for many who brought in on at the wrong time on good faith and had the rug pulled from underneath them.

My only early hint that things might have turned sour was noticing xnovas resolved ip location had changed from utah, and later a few politician non-answers or stuttered deviations from byrne when quizzed about medicis background stack, but i dismissed both as mostly irrelevant . Public investors only found out the real answers when coindesk decides to extract the story from the horses mouth, although there had been rumblings for a while. That was wholly inappropriate
.
In regulated markets this would have resulted in huge drama and lengthy legal battles. A relative corporate behemoth ran roughshod through the price of this promising technology, by making numerous misleading quotes .. here in crypto land we just have to suck it up, focus on the many other real merits of the project and work together to support it in any way, whether that if it is simply evangelizing, commiting to github, visualizing and fitting in use cases, or simply being active in the community.

I know there have been a few insinuations from "Medici CTO" on reddit that infer t0 might incorporate counterparty buta factoring in those vague comments seems like a fools game after all this nonsense. I hope we can once and all forget about Medici.

Now we know it very clear that Symbiont "supports" counterparty but not "relies" on counterparty any more. Symbiont relies on the counterparty technology instead. If Symbiont succeeds, it does not mean the success of counterparty, but only means there's a successful company backs up counterparty.

Symbionts ledger agnosticism / private v public chain design was known quite long ago to any investor doing their own due diligence,  (certainly before the recent run up and subsequent crashes) if you understand the differing requirements of the demographics targeted its clear there would never be a one sized fits all approach.

Regardless, the situation is a hell of a more promising reality than vast majority of "investment oppurtunities" in the crypto space today. It seems quite simple. Where there is demand for a counterparty like structure, counterparty will be to tool for the job. There is no other such investment opportunity in the promising crytofinance space, and now you have a corporate entity supporting this open source project, works for red hat. Not to get started on corps open source contributions in general.

Market reaction seems to imply precious few had done background research as this news has been surprising..or were expecting some totally different news but im confused as to what.?

Seems oversold. But then again when it fell from .25 to .07 it seemed too much of a fall then. Who knows when it will finally find a stable floor that doesnt keep adjusting lower

Seems to be a dearth of mature market participants investing in projects with a long term purview.
All we ever see is occasional rises followed by sadly inevitable dumps often past the previous floor for no real logical reason - even if the news is groundbreaking andnoverwhelmingly positive. Guess people can profit at any levels trading waves or shorting

All of this news had been spelt out previously.
I cant understand nor explain rash dumping after that announcement unless english is not the native langauge seems like a gross misintepretation to me

Few corrections with regard to counterparty:

Counterparty absolutely does have a DEX Marketplace (actually to my knowledge, it was the first p2p smart property marketplace)
Counterparty does have voting (in fact the bitcoin foundation 2014 elections were for a while based off CounterParty) see here: https://blockscan.com/vote/A8911401948086144000 http://blog.bitcoinfoundation.org/voting-on-the-blockchain-version-1-0/
And counterparty does have market pegged assets http://counterparty.io/docs/counterparty_features/#currency-peg

The potential for that chart to be a broad, objective comparison of some of the main 2.0 projects is there, but as it stands it is extremely biased towards NXT to the point where it's not even trying to be subtle about it (only green ticks and under construction in the NXT side...really now?), in addition a cursory glance shows glaring factually incorrect segments.

In June, Symbiont raised $1.25 million from a group of investors including former NYSE chief Duncan Niederauer; former Citadel LLC executive Matt Andresen; two co-founders of high-frequency trading firm Getco LLC, Dan Tierney and Stephen Schuler; and SenaHill.

“Today is the day crypto joins Wall Street,” Symbiont Chief Executive Officer Mark Smith said to the room full of investors, bankers and reporters in New York. Representatives of JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley and other financial institutions were among the audience members

For those who aren't familiar with the last two ex citadel Symbiont Investors (Dan Tierney and Stephen Schuler) they paid out $1.4 billion to merge with Knight Capital , the merged company, KCG holdings accounted for approximately 14.0% of consolidated U.S. equity share volume last quarter.

Some more relevant information about the firm:

Quote
KCG's strategic investments include a 15.2 percent stake in BATS Global Markets Inc. and a 19.9 percent stake in Direct Edge Holdings LLC. During the third quarter, BATS and Direct Edge agreed to merge. As of September 30, 2013, KCG had approximately $798.7 million in cash and cash equivalents. Aggregate long- and short-term debt was approximately $970 million. The company had $1.5 billion in stockholders' equity equivalent to a book value of $12.34 per share and tangible book value of $10.63 per share

Quote
BATS Global Markets Inc. took a big step into the currency market on Wednesday with the acquisition of a trading venue called Hotspot FX.
The Lenexa, Kan.-based exchange operator agreed to buy Hotspot for $365 million in cash from KCG Holdings Inc. Both parties will share tax benefits, which could result in up to $70 million in further payments to KCG. The deal is scheduled to close in the second quarter of this year.

This is, to our knowledge at least, the first time a financial service based on the technology that underlies bitcoin has been launched that directly targets services offered in the existing financial world. Not that Wall Street sees it as a threat, apparently. Both Mr. Byrne and Symbiont CEO Mark Smith said they have serious interest from myriad parties on Wall Street, and plan to license out their technology.

In the morning, Symbiont unveiled its Smart Securities platform at a small gathering off Wall Street at the offices of the financial-services firm Capco that was attended by investors in the firm, representatives of financial services like the clearing-house service Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. (DTCC), Morgan Stanley, and UBS. The team gave a live demonstration of the platform, which included a handful of debt securities issued by SenaHill Partners (an investor in Symbiont), which were the first instruments to trade on the platform.

About 10 minutes after Mr. Smith began his presentation, the confirmation notice came across and he announced the trades had cleared. Such a system, he said later, takes counterparty risk down to “zero.”

Bear in mind, DTCC alone handles the clearing of nearly $2 QUADrillion per annum!)  or equivalent to the entire US GDP every three days. And they are not the only institution with eyes on blockchain tech, here is a list of some others working on pilots.

Recent news pushed the XCP price up to 0.01. CounterParty is currently trading down -27.31% and again a sub $5 million market cap at 0.0067.

I believe at this moment, with a long term purview- predicting expected value XCP remains undervalued.  I submit to any readers that factoring in latest developments at this price range (0.006),  it is a clear candidate for a long term buy and hold. It may well go lower, but I believe it will also go higher.

I would be interested in engaging with anyone who disagrees and hearing their opinion why they think that is not the case.

Cryptocurrencies are maturing into a new phase and scrypt forks & quick flips of gimmick IPO's on bittrexx have long since not being enough. Projects like this represent a rare  early investment window in the nascent cryptofinance space.   I will continue to post back on this thread on occasion with latest news and developments in the CounterParty world.

Yes on irc it was noticed last night that t0 explorer was pretty much a clone of coinprism, however they also have an interesting marker data page, and the timing was very odd. Unless it was a blatant attempt to steal thunder. Remember Symbiont are ledger agnostic

In a similar vein, there is also an open source shapeshift plugin for shifting bitcoin, CounterParty XCP and supported Counterparty assets right from your wallets that has been out for a few months:
