Somewhere I've read that one just needs 1/3 of total hashing power to gain control over the network. He withholds a selfmined valid block until he recognize another one publishing "his" block, then releasing "his" one gaining a time benefit. He lets all other participants mine "his" block while he's mining a new valid one, therefore gaining control over the blockchain. Dunno the exact details and it's been a while since I've read about that issue but I find it quite scary. The part I don't get is how he should be able to publish "his" block after another one does and still "wins". Maybe this is old news and has already been fixed, would be nice if some tek could drop a line on this. Thanks.

don't forget Jed's laptop was the one that got hacked revealing the admin pwd leading to the mtgox plunge to $0.001 over a period of about 15 min back in June 2011.
i tried to scrape up the video of that plunge but no success. i remember being right there when it happened. one of the most dramatic things i've ever seen realtime.

You're holding 4k+USD on gox without doing proper security measures? Even though gox, like every other financial service provider, advised you repeatedly to do so? I mean, it's not like gox offers yubikey and OTP-Card for fun. You risked 4k+USD because you didn't meet the common security standard, which in this case are a few bucks for 2FA. Now you quibble over details avoiding the fact you did a reckless mistake. I'm sorry for your loss and maybe you should sue gox, because we don't do fun about the money. But I still can't take it when somebody pins all the blame for his/her own faults on other parties involved, just because they are involved. I wish you get your money back and hope you secured you other accounts accordingly. Please report back when you sued gox and what the outcome was. Thank you.
