1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The world's first handheld Bitcoin device, the Ellet! on: September 10, 2012, 04:59:36 AM
just curious

Matthew has a scammer tag from betting on pirate.

Why does pirate himself not have a scammer tag?

He does.

And he dons it proudly. Not once has complained about it.

Would you complain about getting a bunch of idiots to give you all their money?

ummm... what?
2  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Discussion about 10,000BTC Bet (Official) on: September 09, 2012, 10:01:47 PM
I'm still agonizing over which is funnier... watching the entire spreadsheet worth of bettors get pantsed in public, or the outcry over it.

If anyone who had an IQ reaching into double digits did any background on Matty, and his Hilarious Horde of Hijinks you would have known good and early that this would turn out to be a spoof, a canard, a bon geste. You have all been made out to look as foolish as online personas can possibly be, and every single bettor who lined up for this abuse looks about as intelligent as the losers on To Catch A Predator, who stand there dumbfounded, wondering why they aren't screwing a 14 year old hottie, and they are being grilled on TV instead.

I would imagine the only remorse Matt has is that it fell on the 9th of September, and not the 1st of April.

What a boatload of buffoons! Quick, back into your clown car and go chasing after the next great scheme... you know they next one has to be real...
This needs to stay...too good not to quote.

What abuse exactly? those who made bets lost nothing. Matthew received a scammer tag.

Bad trolls need to stay home.
I'll say it again. Many people used the bet as a hedge; this usage was actually encouraged. Matthew had an undeniable amount of credibility at the time.
I bet (heh) that people did lose money.

1. Investor notices the bet thread
2. Investor notices TYGRR-BOND-P is trading at 0.1 BTC
3. Investor buys 1 share
4. Investor bets 1 BTC
5. MNW exposes the "loophole"
6. Investor is forced to sell his share again, at a loss of 0.04 BTC.

Just because MNW didn't gain doesn't mean others didn't lose. If I break your window, neither of us gain. I'd still be an asshole though, especially if there's no recourse you have against me.

Oh right. Yeah, I was not hedging...

I still don't get what point MNW was trying to prove.

I didn't lose anything; MNW gained a scammer tag. And added fuel to the already overwhelming pirate discussion.

I kind of suspected he'd never pay (I had my doubts from the beginning but when he lifted his original BTC10,000 limit I started to seriously doubt his intention to pay when he loses).

My feelings too.

Did you bet with him?

Yeah, 1000BTC.

Yeah whatever bent pony troll

Umm... ok? look at Hexadecibel's bet. 1000BTC.

I usually state when I'm trolling.

He supported and defended the largest scam in bitcoin's history.

What does he deserve?...

He NEVER supported anything other than telling people to PUT UP or SHUT UP.

Looked like he supported the hell out of it on IRC.

Gobbling that Pirate peg...leg...

I dont see the point in trolling Matthew by saying things that are irrelevant to the situation at hand. 7 more hours...just chill.

Well, this is my trolling account... sorta...

Ok, I'll be good.

I honestly feel bad for Matthew.

I understand what he was trying to accomplish with this, but I fear that it is blowing up in his face. I commend him for trying to shut everyone up, but he ends up carrying the flag alone.

If it comes down to everyone getting paid except for me, I would have strong reservations in regards to telling the truth about me being paid, rather, out-right lying to protect Matthew.
He is putting TOO MUCH on the line for simply ideals.

I respect Matthew, but he doesn't deserve this.

He supported and defended the largest scam in bitcoin's history.

What does he deserve?...

Maybe he's busy with the magazine...
11  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 23/459 on: September 03, 2012, 12:14:20 AM
pirateat40 gave that attraction, by his scam/scamming.

So BTC will attract the scammers (like we don't have enough of them already).
Well, at least is going to remain an interesting scene.

The problem is here bitcoin is also an economy and personally I don't wanna be part of an economy of scammers. There is a point were I gonna be sick of it and leave, and that's the case for most people.

we'll miss you Sad
12  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Be careful with matthew's bet on: September 01, 2012, 07:00:20 PM
If you had everyone bothering you, stalking you, harassing you, lying about you, wouldn't you want try to prove them wrong in a highly dramatic manner that makes them question the very foundation of their sick, pedantic reasoning?

There is no such thing as "sick, pedantic reasoning". [Are you going to call Pifagora theorem sick and pedantic too?]

There are sound arguments and unsound arguments. There are valid arguments and invalid arguments.

There are also people that are uneducated and more so unable or unwilling to learn and that, when faced with undeniable argument crushing their silly hypothesis, are hiding in some disturbing psycho denial state and exhibit symptoms of emotional withdrawal from reality.

I would withdraw from reality if I just flushed 30k BTC down the toilet...
13  Other / Off-topic / Re: Matthew is renigging on his bet. He doesn't recognize Pirate's debt to Goat. on: August 31, 2012, 09:50:28 AM
I thought matthew had already lost his bet...

Quote from: Hexadecibel

Quote from: Matthew N. Wright
If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% without agreement to investors, -that- is fraud and a failure to pay back. I would obviously lose the bet.
If he owes 100% and only pays back 90% but the investors agreed to it, -that- is the agreement and therefor he has paid it back. I would win the bet.
If he owes 100% and pays back 100%, I would win the bet.
If he owes 100% and does not pay anything anything back, I would lose the bet.

but then:

Quote from: Matthew N. Wright
Post in this thread how much you're committing and I will double that amount you commit (maximum of 10,000BTC in bets allowed in this thread total) if Pirate does not pay out in 3 weeks as he described in his thread.

And pirate's thread:

Quote from: Pirateat40
When will I get my coins?
Starting Monday I’ll begin systematically closing and withdrawing accounts as coins are transferred.  I don't expect the entire process to last longer than a week. The moment your account is closed you’ll receive your coins plus any interest accrued up to the hour it was sent.

By this criteria Matthew has lost the bet. Pirate has admitted default and interest is no longer accruing which is in breach of the terms. QED.

Wait wait wait...you mean...PinkiePie and Bitcoiners, two SomethingAwful trolls don't appreciate me? WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT. lulz.

It's not that we don't appreciate you, its just that we want you to grow up.

Also, not a somethingawful troll.
15  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: pirate payments list -- accounts paid: 22/459 on: August 30, 2012, 11:44:50 PM
Code:
[19:16] <@pirateat40> Total Accounts Repaid: 21/459 (subject to required information)

Since he's paying out again, it might be a good idea to start a new thread.

update: 22 now.

any transaction ID's?

I have to say, after seeing how matthew behaves on IRC and the forums I look at Bitcoin magazine differently...

He should just make a sock puppet account if he wants to act so unprofessional.

Im actually embarrassed for the members of that rag. I wonder why no one has reined him in...

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: transition to bitcoin successor on: August 30, 2012, 06:33:23 PM
Bitcoin is always evolving. Considering how much network effect Bitcoin has, it draws the most developers who in turn will make it better. Any competing crypto currency will have to offer something bitcoin simply can not (what would that be anyway?)

Bitcoin is just a baby, but it will grow up strong.

I want on all of the whitelists!
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pirate ? on: August 27, 2012, 04:30:31 AM
This will be good for bitcoin if for no other reason people will not be so quick to protect suspected schemes like this.

At least I would hope so. It at least sets a precedent.
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Once Bitcoins become a serious threat ... on: August 27, 2012, 12:58:30 AM
I would welcome any organization to try to "destroy" bitcoin, if only so I could laugh at them... Ha ha ha ha!
