It is illegal to melt. But copper is copper, and it might not be illegal forever (if pennies are discontinued, in the case of societal breakdown, etc.)

$10 face in pre-82 US pennies, for 2.25 BTC (shipping to continental US is included in that price, local pickup in Lansing, MI for 1.8 BTC).

Based on $3.4537/lb copper price, these have a melt value of $22.4955.

Adding to that, if came down to corporate warfare, you have corporations extracting money with the barrel of a gun... If they have to capabilities of actually getting restitution this way, what's to stop them from extorting money from anyone, anytime?

How would the victims' protection agency attack the company, specifically? And how is this victim's protection agency formed/funded?
7  Economy / Goods / Techno for BTC: 0.06 per track, .wav DL on: July 18, 2012, 08:01:28 PM
I'm North Lake, a sound designer and producer from Michigan. Here are some techno tracks only available for DL for those with BTC. I take my sound design very seriously. No presets, no sample libraries, only sounds and patches I personally created, synthesized, or recorded.

Danny that's a bummer, do you live in an urban area? Maybe a craigslist posting would get more attention.

A mistake made by people who are new to startups and entrepreneurship is to imagine that "the idea" is where the magic is, and to act secretive and weird and try to protect their precious idea or business concept from the prying eyes of outsiders. Chances are 20 other people have already thought of your magical unique thing
+1

Also, if you're not willing or capable of getting $60 into an exchange on your own, that doesn't reflect well upon your ability to get things done.

I've done some local btc<-->usd stuff with friends and family who were curious about BTC, but weren't willing to jump through all the hoops to do it online. Even with bitinstant, buying bitcoins is still a huge pain in the ass for a beginner, to the point where I'm sure a lot of people tried to get into it and quit. There's a good opportunity for people doing local transactions for a similar fee to bitinstant.
