Thanks for the suggestion, I just havent had time yet, will post picture of unit with screenshot from cgminer when I get home today
2  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling Icarus on: September 26, 2012, 05:58:01 AM
Picked it up from fedex tonight, have been running it for the last hour or so.  Running at average 370-375 Mh/s
3  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Back on the market to buy FGPA mining equipment on: September 25, 2012, 09:27:32 PM
GPU mining equipment? any interest in fpga?  I have an icarus i need to get rid of, havent even gotten it from fedex yet but financial situation has changed and need to sell it.  let me know thanks.
4  Economy / Computer hardware / Selling Icarus on: September 25, 2012, 04:23:10 PM
Well unfortunately I havent even had time to pick this guy up from fedex yet but my financials have changed this weekend and I need to unload this icarus that I bought.  Would really like to have it gone by the end of the week

I bought it for $350, will sell it for $300 OBO (about 25 btc at current rate).  Bitcoin  is probably the most convenient, no paypal.  Willing to do the deal with an admin as 3rd party.
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC, announcement & pre-order start. VERY important notice updated on: September 21, 2012, 09:00:49 PM
I really dont get why people are bothering to post that they wont pre-order without paypal or CC.  Bitcoin is inherently guarantee-less.  If you have a problem with that why are you here?

I havent been on the forums very long but from my time here ive seen that the OP is very active, provides great support for his product and was as open as possible, providing regular updates.  If I had the $ id pre-order in a heartbeat.

... and the SMT welder operator's salary is 500$.
I live in EU. I'm soldering iron operator Wink
...and my salary is not much bigger, 700$ Sad

please use the "soldering iron man" instead or "soldering iron operator"
...

but, as far as i know, it there such a low salary in EU now? 700USD a month?  Shocked

Jesus in california its $1600+ a month with full benefits and overtime....

So sad I wont have enough $ to get in on this =(
8  Economy / Securities / Re: [CPA] [NYAN] [BMF] The Wind Changes Direction -- are you prepared? on: September 18, 2012, 05:56:27 PM
who needs sleep!
Curious to see where this goes, sad I have no extra $ to invest but oh well
9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC mining machine, announcement & pre-order start. update:9/18 on: September 18, 2012, 04:21:24 PM
if you guys all consider that, the MH/W is a very important value, we could pay more effort on energy consumption optimize.
I might be alone in this, but shipping times and keeping the cost down is more important to me than power savings. That's just my opinion, though.

It really comes down to how much power is saved.  If we're talking 25 watts for two months extra time, probably not worth it.  There are always options around the power issue including hosting your farm somewhere else where power is cheaper.
10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: butterfly labs is definitely mining with those ASICs at the moment on: September 18, 2012, 05:41:17 AM
I had the same thought yesterday and honestly i would not doubt it.  If you need to test the units anyways, why not make some $?
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: "Avalon" ASIC mining machine, announcement & pre-order start. update:9/18 on: September 18, 2012, 05:29:06 AM
Count me in for one or two, If only for the sake of decentralization.

Edit :  If this thing is to consume 600w, I think we can save almost 80$ for PSU + shipping.   I'd guess, like many miners, I won't have much use for these 80+ Gold PSUs

I really think that 600W number was a wild guess. It will be a lot less.
I trust ngzhang to make good technical choices.

The BFL singles plug into a computer.  These Avalon devices are stand alone.  A computer is at least 200W probably, right?  My question is how does BFL wattage + computer wattage compare with just the Avalon standalone wattage?

No computer consume as little as 30watt, think netbook or HTPC.  BFL merely use an usb port and you can add as many as you want with USB hubs. (128)

the mk802 while not sure if you want to consider it a computer...but it does have linux builds that run on it.
Net books dont use very much power, the adapters are about 40 watts...take away the lcd and the hard drive and it can definitely go below 30 watts.

I will be incredibly excited if I see an order for test equipment from smic with a device name of "avalon" on my desk in the near future, but I am guessing it wont happen.

it will 100% happen if 300 order are filled.  Cheesy

and if you want one on "your" desk, don't forget to order in 2012.9.23

i guess if a refund is to happen (for any reason) it would be in the currency that has been used (dollar,btc,...etc)? Smiley

maybe it's better to use BTCs.

I actually work for a company that makes equipment for testing wafers.  the quantities you're talking about are probably too small to warrant smic ordering any custom equipment from us (1 piece costs about $75,000 usd).

3, this ASIC will manufacture by SIMC.  0.11 or 0.13 process.

Couldnt find a company called SIMC (maybe I just suck with google) do you mean SMIC?
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do you spend your hard earned bitcoins[btc] on? on: September 17, 2012, 03:43:49 AM
I understand the basics of bitcoin, but wouldn't buying those ASICS be prohibitive to bitcoin production? If you buy an ASICS-based system, don't you drive up the difficulty of obtaining bitcoins for everyone else? And if more and more people buy ASICS-based machines, that would mean that you're basically where you started, except with $15,000 & $30,000 rigs instead of a rig that cost a few thousand, right?

Even if hardware went stagnant right now, difficulty would go up...ASICS just make it so that whoever owns them can continue to mine at a reasonable speed.

Quote
RSM - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63257.0 - will be operating at >46(MH/s)per share on delivery of our ASIC's.  We will then be reinvesting 50% of profits into buying more ASIC's to keep our (MH/s)per share rate growing faster then rate of network difficulty growth.

If I invest 100 BTC, how much returns can I expect in a month. How can you guarantee this? What are the risks, besides the obvious?

Im interested in investing, just dont know whether to buy bonds or hardware?

Basically very much (in principle) like the stock market...dont invest unless you're willing to lose it all or at least a very large amount of it....there is no guarantee

<Disclaimer>
I'm not ANTI-BFL, I just don't drink the cool-aid
I would never purchase a product that has not been publicly Demonstrated and performance specs 3rd party tested
If my understand ASIC chip production, you don't really prototype the chip, you do it all virtually and then make a huge BATCH and hope for the best.
Unless you use a Multi-Project Wafers (MPW) to prototype your Chip, not all Fabs offer this.
If BFL had a working Prototype with a MPW ASIC chip, they would display the shit out of it.
Plus you also have to take into account that there currently shipping product is just another company's re-branded FPGA, and they originally said it was a custom built chip until someone proved them wrong.
I'm currently a GPU Miner, that will purchase a ASIC products on the open Market once they start to ship and there performance is verified.
Until a 3rd Party Tests one, I still consider it VaporWare.
</Disclaimer>

You pretty much got it...I work for a company that makes test equipment for wafer testing, they basically make a bunch then test. Had a really big company cancel an order from us because their initial yield was 1%
I really hope they arent having the same problems or people will be waiting a really long time.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to make a cash deposit - BitInstant on: September 16, 2012, 07:19:21 AM
Having used this method to get started. My issue with using CVS and their red moneygram phone is that roughly zero people use the phone around here. The photo center person said I was the first person to use the phone since they remodeled the store two years ago.  There are also at least two cameras on you at the phone, so if your thought was to be somewhat anonymous, surprise!

I was kind of disappointed when the slip to print out said moneygram.  IOf i wanted to moneygram i would have just used it in the first place.  And the people at the cvs i went to didnt even know how to properly pull up the thing and made me call 3 times....and when they finally figured it out my name came up like 4 times.  Too bad that didnt mean they sent 4 times the money for nothing  Undecided
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I used bitinstant to send bitcoins to my wallet but they never arrived. on: September 14, 2012, 11:27:56 PM
it looks like the transaction went through

If it is showing on the blockchain then there is nothing more for BitInstant to do.

but my bitcoin wallet still has a 0.00 ballance.

Has your client downloaded all blocks and is now current?

I encountered the same thing, but in fact my client was not current.  I left the bitcoin program on when i put my computer into standby and for some reason upon starting it back up, it never tried to update in about 2 hours.  It took a restart of my bc client to get it to start updating.  Sure enough as soon as it finished my transaction showed up.
