1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Collection Thread] Series and films in which Bitcoin (or Altcoins) appear on: September 30, 2020, 02:27:01 PM
Netflix, Queen of the South. Season 3 Ep1 she uses it for money transfers (Drug Money) but gets into trouble with guy running the operation in Malta. Technically a bit iffy but shows the strengths of instant trusted money transfers.

"Anyway, the Android app, I did just try install and fire it up on a tablet and it worked - the version that says '(Kano)' on the end.

So my only guess would be that whatever is causing the Discord problem may be causing the App problem?"

Tried an old Phone (Huawei P20 Pro) and the app still works fine, new one I have had for about 3 months (One Plus Cool did work fine but now app crashes (in last 2 weeks) as soon as trying to open it so guess the app does not like something in the Oxygen OS.
Will use an old Android phone for now to run app :-)
Will try and join you on Discord some other time (not that I have ever needed help in the past as the KanoPool just works :-)
All the best

Tried to join you on Discord, link worked then get thrown off after 10 minute countdown gets to about 5 minutes ? Happily mining with you for years but CKPool Stats app has just stopped working and wondered if there was something else. Just wanted simple check on phone of HashRate. ?
User name on Discord is same as my user name on KanoPool in case you can see why I am getting kicked off before being allowed to post.
Yeah Discord can sometimes be over active before the 10 minute limit - not sure what reasons it does it, since it's not everyone.
I presume you registered the Discord account properly?
I'd also like to know the differences when someone can get in vs when they can't since it does happen on occasion but I'm not sure what causes it.

Also if you do manage to get in to Discord, see the pinned message about getting a Discord Key since that will get you the 'Miner' roll which 'should' clear up any problem.

Anyway, the Android app, I did just try install and fire it up on a tablet and it worked - the version that says '(Kano)' on the end.

So my only guess would be that whatever is causing the Discord problem may be causing the App problem?
Thanks, got logged out of Discord, gone back in again using invite to give you the key but but whilst waiting on 10 min timeout got logged out again with few seconds left on countdown. Will try again later.

Just to say to HaggsFin thanks for the link to cryptouniverse. Picked up a few Avalons and happy with their service and their price.

Many thanks for the quick answer. Sorcerer it will be, I will look at the EU supplier, thanks for the link.
The 2880 were great but having not bought any for 3 years am shocked by the big price increase (They were 35 USD each when I got them in 2015), now makes more sense to get something dedicated like the Sorcerer so no need for breakouts/PCIE cables etc.
All the best

Thanks for the great review, I read it and have just ordered some 821s. How are the Sorcerer PSU that Canaan provide, not fussed about noise more about how reliable they are. Have been using 2880 but cannot get the breakout boards from J4bberwock anymore in Europe so want to change to "normal" PSU.
Was thinking of either Sorcerer or some standard Corsair or Seasonic ATX PSU.
Any advice welcomed.
Thanks
Andy
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: need help with bitmain usd wire transfer on: September 16, 2017, 07:31:53 AM
3 years ago I tried a couple of ways of transferring money direct, always stopped due to risk factor. Basically the Banks are making it difficult (they feel threatened). Would personally suggest doing it via BTC and forget fiat currency.
What I did 3 years ago was bought a pallet of S4 for fiat currency from someone in the EU (where I am based) then mined some BTC and used that to get some T9s and Avalon 741s. BTC is awesome, no numpty Bankers trying to stop you for "Risk Factor", last transfer to Avalon cost me 9 USD :-)

Not sure where you are based but if in Europe try J4bberwock. I have various breakouts for the IBM 2880 and 6 pin to 6pin PCIe cable from him over last 2 years. Good quality and good prices. He has various PSU in stock as well as the breakout boards and cable.

I have a pair of GTX650 bought in 2012 still running BOINC at 100% 24/7. Air cooled, fans on Auto, no OC with an open case. Had various other GTX running for 5 years plus no problems all on Boinc or Folding@home.

Only added Team Red to the farm since starting Alt Coin mining in last year so not sure on those, but Team Green can certainly do 5 years no problems at all.

If you are located in Europe I would suggest J4bberwock for breakouts. Quality is great (I have been running 2880 breakouts and cables from him for years)

EU based buying from USA with carriage and import taxes can get expensive.

Given how many Amps you are running through this I would be very wary of getting cheap no name from ebay.

Hope this helps

12  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Shopping for a Pool for 100TH...Ottawa..P2 or other? on: September 04, 2017, 11:06:45 AM
My vote is for Kano. I am more of a Network Geek than Mining (do this part for fun with my 30gh of T9/S4/741s) and have not done all the Maths but the overall payouts per day is an obvious improvement over Antpool.
Though would be nice to set a threshold for payment so fewer transactions (but this is a small thing).

Any one seen hash rates displayed like below? Miner still appears to be hashing at it's intended rate, the pool shows the same - I'm just concerned as it looks a little odd and none of my other T9's display like this.

One of my T9s does the same. Been like this for a few months now but hashes fine and temps are fine so I have left it alone.

I have been trying to PM J4BBerwock for last 3 weeks but not getting any reply. He was fine in 2015 last time I bought some 2880 Breakout boards so I think something else may be wrong.
I know he had eye operations in 2016 but does anyone know if he is OK ?
