1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE ANN] [SENSE] BlockSense | Digital Construction | SMART Infrastructure on: February 01, 2016, 05:47:42 PM
Watching, and does this mean it will be a hard drive storage rewarded coin?

For now, the network will be driven by 100% proof of stake. We are not using hdd mining based rewards or proof of work. I've updated this in the post.

Will it be open source?

Yes, SENSE cryptocurrency will be open source when launched. Our platform will provide tools for the industry to integrate BlockSense into their systems.

Thank you for posting our graphical ANN mistercashking

Updates and information around the project will be added regularly from today. Be sure to check our site and follow us on twitter for development.
Won't this lead to quite a large blockchain and quickly?

Blockchain bloat is something we are considering as we optimize the way data is taken from sensors. Most sensors within Smart SHM systems are relatively low in frequency and size (often a few bytes) so this is not an issue.

Development relating to high frequency sensors is something we have considered and will be outlined in future posts and reports. Further studies will be undertaken as we interact with industry to assess potential data demanding uses. We have also introduced a data carriage factor to increase the cost of larger segments of data within outputs.

One of the main goals of BlockSense is to allow encoding of minute data recordings from these sensors so that the platform can use it as a foundation to offer extended services. Typically a single transaction would include:

Code:
Organisation I.D    Project I.D    Building I.D    Location I.D    Sensor System I.D    Data Readings   Unix Time

With proper nomenclature, the outputs are relatively small in size. Pruning will also be supported for sensor node functions.

when will crowdfuning start ?

We are in the process of finalizing some details before announcing our crowdfund campaign. Expect an update on crowdfunding in the coming week or so alongside technical information.

BLOCKSENSE

BLOCKCHAIN APPLICATIONS FOR SMART INFRASTRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION
BLOCKSENSE

GRAPHIC ANN

BlockSense is the first blockchain powered platform for the construction industry. Serving as an open databank for SMART infrastructure, BlockSense is an innovative approach to engineering data management.

OUR SCOPE

Infrastructure investment has been a key area for the construction industry with attention being focused on project efficiency.
Construction 2025 published by HM Government 2013 stated the importance of smart infrastructure investment with a forecast of £200 billion p.a global market for 2030. The industry has since invested and developed a number of digital construction models such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and other innovations.
As Structural Health monitoring and other smart solutions are implemented, the industry has grown to demand better data management of its systems.
BlockSense is a project aimed to improve the way data is managed within smart infrastructures by using blockchain technology, in particular, OP_RETURN functions. Faster transactions, automated encryption encoding and data integrity are just a few of the many benefits of BlockSense.
BlockSense supports existing and future infrastructures through slipstreamed deployment and integration. From structural integrity to temperature and humidity systems, BlockSense will be a versatile databank solution that will cater for all SMART sensing data types.
Organizations or individuals will be able to establish decentralized databanks for their projects with minimal cost and setup time. The BlockSense platform (blocksense.org) will have an integrated registration system allowing on the fly monitoring and interrogation of immutable data on the SENSE blockchain.
Low powered sensing solutions across a secure decentralized network will create a monitoring system that goes beyond current SHM limitations and strives for sustainable development practices. BlockSense brings live analysis, publications and collaboration of databanks to form an innovative unified network of data and knowledge.

SMART INFRASTRUCTURE

Real-time data collection and analysis are possible with embedded devices, the Internet of Things (IoT). Converting real life events into logical data provides insight, creating informed decisions when handling monitoring and maintenance of assets.
Early warning systems and information collection develop foresight, allowing for advance planning and solution methods to be implemented in an effective manner before severe damage manifestation.
Smart infrastructures are the future of the world with Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems being developed and implemented in new and existing assets. They provide:

Stable Maintenance Costs   Reduced Down Time   Damage Prevention   Live Data Analysis

SENSE Blockchain ? How it Works

SENSE is a token used to encode data permanently on the blockchain. The network will be driven by proof of stake in line with sustainable development motives of the industry. Each OP_RETURN will have a base cost of 0.005 SENSE (making data immutable) with a data carriage fee of 0.002 SENSE per Kb to the network. (figures to be adjusted)

Sensor > Embedded System > OP_return to SENSE Blockchain > BlockSense Platform

The BlockSense platform will track all registered sensors for extended services.

PLATFORM OVERVIEW

The BlockSense platform is an interactive web service that allows deployment of BlockSense databank projects.

Create & Deploy

BlockSense will have its own management hierarchy. Users can choose to adopt the default structure by assigning unique I.D?s to Organizations, locations and sensor systems or use their own data structures.

Sensors & Network Integrity

BlockSense will accommodate a range of data collection frequencies. Security grows with adoption. As each sensor node will encode data over the network and support the network infrastructure by staking.

Track & Analyse

Automated registration of systems will allow live streaming of encoded data. Users will be able to query the blockchain database built by BlockSense. Define data sets, time frames and many more to analyse how a smart infrastructure is performing.
Easily export data sets and charts for use with other tools and records.

Live Alert System

An automated alert service will be developed to allow users to programme conditional alerts assigned to specific sensors and systems.

Privacy & Publications

Organisations can choose to encrypt their data for internal usage or have data open to the public. Publication functions will be integrated to allow report publishing on the platform and internal data sharing.
Data verification used within publications may be referenced to the SENSE blockchain. Transparency instils confidence to stakeholders and will promote better asset management decisions.

Collaborate

Share data and contribute to better development. As new and existing projects often refer to historical data, BlockSense aims to be the ultimate databank. Contribute to public databanks or private ones.
As BlockSense develops, additional functions and features become possible with public borehole data, climate data, seismic data etc. New functions and services can be developed including web map services, activity forecasting and much more.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: rcpuser and rcppassword on: January 31, 2016, 04:26:13 PM
Regarding 3rd party api's which would be better for security here if blockchain storage was not an issue?

Also rpcuser and pass are required before bitcoind can start i think.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Raspberry Pi 2 Node on: January 31, 2016, 03:54:04 PM
Pi2 is a great device and I've been actively looking for others that support analog input. Intel Edison has been another one i've experimenting with.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: What do you guess about he future of bitcoin? on: January 31, 2016, 03:23:32 PM
Volatility is great for trading but mass adoption after regulation and somewhat "more centralization" is needed. Bitcoin has changed alot since its first satohis.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Cheap way to attack blockchain on: January 31, 2016, 01:27:25 PM
This attack can be made more effective by exploiting this.  That is, instead of a vanilla OP_RETURN you use the script:

Code:
    OP_RETURN OP_CHECKMULTISIG

This counts as a extra 20 sigOps.  This bug is fixed in 0.12.0 (by making this script non-standard).

Will have a read of this.
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is it possible to use the Blockchain to prevent vote-tampering? on: January 31, 2016, 10:21:25 AM

An interesting article and good to see students pushing for blockchain applications.

The comment about feeling sceptical about the project and coding was irrelevant.

10  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I have completed my Bitcoin Reward site. on: January 31, 2016, 09:15:16 AM
An interesting idea. Many people like to do daily tasks to earn token amounts.
11  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to deal with 80 GB Blockchain? on: January 30, 2016, 07:15:57 AM
Pruning is most definitely the easiest solution to this issue. One could say the blockchain size is a testament to bitcoinss growing usage. I feel some servers (digitalocean?) should have a "deploy bitcoin core" service that will help save on initial startup. Storage and hosting is getting better and cheaper but still has some way to go before cheaper solutions are worthwhile for both company and customers.
12  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoins safe? on: January 28, 2016, 03:22:18 AM
Its difficult to define what "safe" is. To the average person however, Bitcoin is not safe in my opinion. Fiat dwarfs bitcoins use and will always be the safer option in the foreseeable future.

For users that want to take advantage of bitcoin's advantages, whether it's sending funds around the world or trading etc, it is indeed safe enough to use. Just be wary of volatility and all transactions are absolute. No one can manage your funds for you or take liability as such.
13  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Secure Linux Distribution for Bitcoin using? on: January 27, 2016, 11:40:54 PM
Ubuntu, Debian, mint are all very easy to use. Depends on your preference and hardware requirements. And yes as suggested be aware of the best security practices to protect your coins. I often use cold wallets too.
14  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: January 27, 2016, 11:29:17 PM
Vantigygen is a very interesting tool, not sure if we could compile data to compare how long it took to find certain strings etc.
15  Other / MultiBit / Re: MultiBit HD vs Blockchain.info Receive Payments API V2 on: January 27, 2016, 11:17:23 PM
Blockchain.info's v2 api is alot better. I've only tested it using their alpha wallet though
16  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why all blocksize propositions are round numbers ? on: January 27, 2016, 11:00:04 PM
Yes in general round numbers are probably easier to work with when defining parameters
17  Economy / Economics / Re: Big Crash coming on: January 27, 2016, 10:50:58 PM
Maybe not now but we can always expect some sort of banking crisis to emerge at some point. With market crashes money and wealth distribution is always going somewhere. BTC could benefit. or not.

19  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: January 26, 2016, 11:18:48 PM
Minimal hardware solutions are something I hve been looking into for a long while. It's good to see new pieces of tech coming out all the time. I'm still looking at full node solutions too.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: January 26, 2016, 06:24:22 AM
I read where FACTOM will also 'anchor' itself to other blockchains for security and redundancy

Have any other blockchains been considered; my first thoughts would be Ethereum and/or NXT for starters

Thats interesting, expanding onwards from Bitcoin.
