1  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Is it possible to make an honest trade here? on: February 02, 2016, 09:48:44 PM
Thank you so much you guys.............how can I be sure I will be getting a valid Netspend Reload Code in return, before my bitcoins are released to the seller?     Will I have time to validate the Code and then give Monbux the 'thumbs up' to release the BTC to the other party Huh    Thanks so much.

Okay, do you think it's safe to trade with a Newbie using Monbux as the escrow service ??  God, I'm still nervous about it.............lol

5  Economy / Currency exchange / Is it possible to make an honest trade here? on: February 02, 2016, 06:14:44 PM

So am I doing something wrong or I'm in the wrong place?   I'd like to make a simple trade....but I'm new, so people don't want to trade with me or they want to scam me.   I don't see where "honest" trades are being done and I don't see anything about which escrow services to use, if any.   So am I screwed.....or just not patient enough?   Right now, it seems like I'm "damned if I do"  "damned if I don't."    Thanks for your help.

8  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How I was scammed ...... on: February 02, 2016, 07:26:26 AM
Thank you for some great feedback...........and not for laying it on so thick.....lol.  Yeah, I walked right into it.

1.  He scammed me for about $350

2.  I downloaded Team Viewer from the website, not a link.

3.  Thank you for the tips about securing my computer, I haven't noticed anything weird...but I will do all the necessary scans.

4.  The question about the code.....no I told him I knew how to use it, but he wanted to see it applied to my debit  account online (we never got that far obviously....I'm not sure what exactly he said to me to get to my wallet right away.   I think something about needing to verify that I had the necessary amount available for the trade.)     I'm not exactly sure how the particulars of the Team Viewer work where he could actually gain access to my computer.............and empty those coins out.....did he somehow key-log my password on the blockchain?

The funny thing is I used to scam....so it's like it all comes back around.  Scam and be scammed.  I don't know why I fell so hypnotized in this scenario....part of it was being a noob to this particular style of trading, part of it was just being too gullible - nice- thinking everybody was my friend.  Part of it was greed and needing to make a fast buck.  LOL, it's been a long time since I was on the opposite end of a scam....so perhaps I was overconfident.     I hope this helps somebody...or at least serves as a lesson on WHAT NOT TO DO.......

Thanks everybody for being constructive and not telling me how stupid I am (because I already am aware of that......lol)

I'm old and keep hearing about 4Chan but don't understand what is going on there, if anything.  Should I even bother?

10  Economy / Trading Discussion / How I was scammed ...... on: February 02, 2016, 03:49:19 AM
Hi........I just wanted to give a brief summary of how I was recently scammed......mainly for informational purposes and so others can be on the look-out for this method. I also would like to hear if this is a fairly common way to scam people...or something rather new.     I know I will get a lot of ridicule for falling for such a blatant scam............but I thought this could be a learning experience, so hopefully I  won't get too many negative comments.   Tongue

The scammer saw my post and asked me if I had ICQ      (trading BTC for prepaid debit card codes)

I set up my ICQ, and we negotiated rates, etc. He was very professional, patient, and he said said "I'll go first."  (He would start the transaction)

He asked me to create a Bitcoin wallet on blockchain.info so he could see that I had the coins ready for trade. So I moved my coins to the blockchain wallet.

He then said that since he will be taking the risk by sending the codes first, he would like to view my screen to make sure the code is used properly. (There may have been another reason for this too.)  In order to do this....he wanted me to download a program called "Team Viewer" that allowed him "see" my screen in real-time.

I downloaded the program "Team Viewer" and started it up ...... he told me he could see my screen, etc......then somehow he asked to see my bitcoin wallet to verify the coins on blockchain.   Once I logged into my bitcoin wallet on blockchain........BLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAM....... I saw my bitcoin balance being withdrawn in a flash.     END OF STORY

So obviously, besides my stupidity, it was the "Team Viewer" program that allowed him to pull off this scam.  I'm still not sure how that program works.....for instance, how could it allow him to also be logged into my bitcoin wallet on blockchain???  How could two computers be accessing the same wallet like that?

Thanks for any input and hopefully this will help somebody in the future from being scammed in this way.   I appreciate any constructive feedback...........

12  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religion is a bunch of bad ideas. Ditch it on: January 28, 2016, 09:26:43 AM
Well I am generally happy that this thread generated some responses and they were all civil.  However, I found some dubious claims that should be clarified................

"Atheism is a religion, so ditch it."     I guess this poster assumed the OP (me) was an atheist.  I don't say anything about being an atheist.  And how can atheism be a religion?   Atheism merely states  that there is not sufficient evidence available to us to prove a god or gods exist.   Atheism has no "holy texts" or "inspired scripture."  There are no rituals or ceremonies.  There are no religious leaders, divine beings, or moral commandments that typically are the hallmarks of religious practice throughout the world.

"the 1st Amendment (means) that we are free to practice the true faith"   So the Christian religion as it was practiced or conceived by the founding fathers is the one "true faith?"   Well that's an exceptional claim.   I'm sure any nominal Hindu in India or Muslim in Jordan or Mormon in Salt Lake City would take issue with that.  It's pretty egocentric to believe that the religion you happened to be born into at this time in history is the ONE TRUE FAITH.   If you happened to be born to Muslim parents in Jordan instead, you almost certainly would not entertain that thought and would think it absurd.  I would read the 1st Amendment again, and see what it actually says about Christianity.  I would look at the authors of the 1st Amendment, and see what they actually thought Christianity meant to them at that time in history.   They would very vaguely resemble any certain modern day Christian denomination.   They were hardly even Christians at all.

"get 'science religion' out of our schools....etc etc."     Well see my first response above.  I don't know how anybody could call science "just another religion."   There is nothing in science taken on faith.  Everything in science is fact checked, tested, and scrutinized in detail.    Science has no ceremonies, rituals, holy days, scripture, afterlifes or underworlds, or magical deities that have to be "believed" on "faith."   Faith is a delusion.  Faith is pretending to know something you don't know.   We are adults living in 2016 on a planet with billions of people who need to get along.  How can this "faith" be nothing more than an impediment to our growth as a species ?    Ditch it.

Thank you for the discussion and thank you for keeping things civil in tone and meant with good will.   Peace

14  Other / Off-topic / Religion is a bunch of bad ideas. Ditch it on: January 27, 2016, 11:23:20 AM
Come on people, we should have outgrown that stuff hundreds of years ago...........let's give ourselves more credit.  Believe in yourselves and what can be accomplished in this life......not in imaginary gods from ancient texts that signify nothing.  And remember......criticizing religions and belief systems is not equivalent to racism/bigotry.   We can't help where we are born.....but we can be responsible for the bad ideas in our heads.
