So, I'm good with my offline wallet?

I'm using Bitcoin-QT on linux and I don't seem to find my walltet.dat file
It's in the ~/.bitcoin folder.
/home/<username>/.bitcoin is a hidden folder, maybe that's why you don't find it.

I read about Ripple recently and I think it is really interesting idea.
How does it work if someone owes me (eg.) 100 USD, and I'd like to convert it to its JPY equivalents? Is this possible?
