1  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Can I retrieve my bitcoin funds from blockchain.com without password? on: June 24, 2019, 10:07:52 PM
Problem solved. I was able to send the funds to another address from my blockchain.com wallet without my password. The address I had imported into blockchain.com was not read-only.
2  Economy / Web Wallets / Can I retrieve my bitcoin funds from blockchain.com without password? on: June 23, 2019, 07:49:49 PM
I bought some bitcoin two years ago from a btc atm and sent them to a wallet on blockchain.info. Then I never did anything with it and forgot about how this all works... Today I tried to access my wallet again using the wallet id and password I had printed on paper. But it says the password is not correct.

I then managed to access my account using a QR code that I could generate with the blockchain app on my mobile phone. I can see my bitcoin balance under "imported addresses". But I am not sure if I can do anything with these bitcoin without a password. Thing is, I can't set a new password even from within my account without my old one. And the help pages say there's no way to retrieve/replace a lost password.

So what should I do? Will I be able to send my bitcoin to another wallet without my password? Or is it possible that the bitcoins are lost in neverland just because the website refuses my password? I still have proof of the original transaction from two years ago.

3  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How to use a BitXatm Bitcoin ATM? on: April 07, 2016, 10:30:43 AM
you can just decode the QR code and that should reveal the private key, from there you can just import it directly to electrum Smiley

I tried that. Didn't work. The app seemed to freeze during the transaction. Then later I tried the same method from my blockchain.info online wallet. Finally, this worked.

I am very new to bitcoin, but I have to say, I am surprised to see how unreliable popular wallets are. The Blockchain mobile app didn't let me import the private key via QR code, Electrum didn't let me import it using numbers ... It seems to be a bit random what works and what doesn't.
4  Economy / Exchanges / How to use a BitXatm Bitcoin ATM? on: April 06, 2016, 09:50:53 PM
I purchased some bitcoin today using an ATM from the company BitXatm. I think the model is called Sumo. The machine is located in a café in Zurich, Switzerland. The only option I had was to print out a paper wallet. On it there are two QR codes, one for the private and one for the public key. And then there's also a very long number that says "TID" which starts with #f3...

I then tried to import the paper wallet into my online wallet at blockchain.info using the blockchain mobile app. I followed the instructions from their tutorial and I am sure I did it right, but I repeatedly got an error message saying  "transaction failed". I was able to import the public key and see the funds, but not transfer them using the private key.

On my computer I also have Electrum installed, but this wallet doesn't allow me to scan QR codes. In order to import the paper wallet into Electrum I would have to enter the private key, but there is no private key written on the paper wallet in the form of numbers.

I also checked the website of the company that owns the ATM: https://www.bitcoinsuisse.ch/de/benuetzung/ (in german)

There it says I need to use Mycelium bitcoin wallet to import the paper wallet. But I don't really want to use it because it's only a mobile app and it asks for access to my user profile.

Could it be that this ATM only works with one particular wallet? And what the heck is this "TID"? Doesn't seem like a very useful machine to me ...

I would be grateful to hear from other people who have used this type of ATM or can otherwise help me.
5  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: What's the point of the Blockchain.info wallet identifier? on: April 06, 2016, 09:02:09 PM
Ok, I get the point. Thanks. Still, if I delete my browser's cookies, or maybe after an update, the identifier will be gone from the login window, and since it is not safe to store the identifier on the computer I will then have to search for the paper sheet I put it down on and re-enter it manually. Which is a bit of a hassle.

Also, of course, using only the identifier is unpractical when you want to login from a different computer.
6  Economy / Web Wallets / What's the point of the Blockchain.info wallet identifier? on: April 05, 2016, 07:08:50 PM
I am a total newbie to Bitcoins. So I just created a wallet on blockchain.info. So far so good. The only thing I am asking myself is why are they using this ridiculously long wallet identifier instead of just a user name like any other web service. I mean, is there any other purpose in this identifier than just logging into my account? As far as I understand, I don't need this to send or receive Bitcoins.

I know there's the possibility of creating an alias, which I did. So now I can log in using my alias. But that makes the identifier seem even more useless.

I read this blog post about the identifier but it didn't really clear up things: /2015/05/22/blockchain-wallet-identifier-basics-for-web-ios-android-wallets/]https://blog.[Suspicious link removed]/2015/05/22/blockchain-wallet-identifier-basics-for-web-ios-android-wallets/
Here's what it says there: "It can be helpful to understand the purpose of your identifier by associating its usefulness with a username required when you log in to any online service."

That's what I mean: Why not just work with a username if the identifier is basically the same? Does anyone have any idea?
