1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hola! Texas! on: April 04, 2014, 07:45:11 PM
I hope this little bit of press at least complexifies some of the more hollow, stagnant perceptions of Texas in the Bitcoin community and the larger "educated" world. For anybody that lives here, this welcoming, hands-off approach to bitcoin regulation is not shocking at all; rather it's totally expected. Outside of some contradictory and legendarily ironic cultural biases, Texans believe in, and better--practice--non-intrusion, de-regulation, live-your-life-just-don't-kill-somebody attitudes.

A good example of Texas' leave-'em-alone philosophy is Austin. It's not the most liberal city in the world (because there are too many Texans there), but it's friggin' liberal and weird as hell and green and smart and tolerant and teck whatever--and it's thriving--the cowboys haven't stormed the place and closed it down, or started killing just random things demanding their representatives write legislature outlawing weird sh*t. Your ranchers aren't necessarily proud of Austin, and probably a little embarrassed, but, Hell, I can't see it from here.

Seems to me like Bitinstant is in the process of stealing all of our btc/usd/etc. I have gotten very rude responses when asking about my coin that i no longer have access to, and the fact that nothing i sent through bit instant as of thursday or friday has gone ANYWHERE besides in their pockets. Red Flags all around! BEWARE!

Nah they're not going to steal anything...just delays. This happened to me when this whole thing started and the funds came through in a bout 8 days. It'll all come through. Still I don't see how they can have had their web site up taking orders with this kind of delay...maybe it'll all be straightened out by monday when their site is supposed to be back up.

I know its maddening man cause I put my order in and within the hour the site was down. What luck.

ray I made a cash deposit friday morning to bitstamp. There funds were never deposited, and it became apparent very quick bitinstant was having issues with their service. By friday evening I had exchanged several messages with bitinstant, and requested a refund. They contacted zipzap, who contacted me for information. They sent out a refund check which they said would be here by friday next week.. good luck. Remember a squeaky wheel gets greased.

shkiser: thanks. i am on the same time table as you with the cash deposit on friday morning, but for some reason my messages to Zipzap and Bitinstant are going unchecked. Bitstamp, however, has replied to me within the hour about four times since Friday, and they insist the issue is on Bitinstant's end and that I need to contact them. Bitstamp said to wait until Monday before totally flipping out and filing claims and complaints and all that. i think, well i noticed that with you and a bunch of others Yankee and Gareth were doing their best on Friday night to make things happen, but i didn't get to them in time because by Saturday they have gone silent. i know everybody needs a day off from work, but with the mess that's unfolding i doubt they are like off for the weekend, and so assume that the sheer number of individual cases to try and fix manually has buried them. idk. it is what it is. i hope it works out. its not the first time i have lost money, i doubt it will be the last. i really wish i hadn't put my whole week's pay into one transaction. i think that what incredibly stupid on my end. rookie mistake. thanks for the info and encouragement, it's helpful on many levels.

Just create a Mt.Gox account if you don't have one if Bitinstant is more 'ready' to send you your funds there.   Really, it takes 5 minutes with no verification required.   Then convert to BTC and withdraw to whatever exchange you are using.   Keepin' it simple.

I'd be cautious about using mt gox unless you are prepared to verify your id...they have a habit of randomly asking for it and will freeze your funds until you deliver. Not saying this will happen for sure but there is a chance..

-cb

True.  Myself I don't regularly use them any more (at least not for large sums) for this reason, in fact after the Bitfloor freeze and Crypto XChange belly up thing... I converted all but a few hundred BTC back into a basket of traditional currencies.   The above recommendation is merely a workaround for those who want to get their funds sent somewhere (and not sitting in Bitinstant waiting for BTC-E, etc. reserves LIMBO).   Jack Be Nimble Jack Be Quick...... la la la la la la la lala.......

Dapper,

I am not clear if anything can be done now with Mt.Gox that Bitinstant has "processed" my funds and "sent" them to Bitstamp, where they never arrived. I have an Mt.Gox account, but that still necessitates me be able to get in touch with someone from Bitinstant, correct? And I can't get anybody to even ask to help. Bitinstant support is like a ghost town. Look back over yesterdays support thread--not a single response from Bitinstant support to anyone for the entirety of Sat 3/2, and much of the night on 3/1. So how would the great Jack be nimble in this situation?

Hey Dapper. Thanks. They did ask me if I had an alternative address where they could send the funds. I am just waiting to hear back from support. I can't tell if my PM is going through or not.

Oh cool, Gareth. Thanks. I did send the PM with the wallet info. I do not know how to see if it is going through or not because I don't see it in my outbox.

Hi Guys,

I am really new in the BTC world and I made maybe a giant mistake by putting most of my paycheck this morning into a BTC order meant to go to Bitstamp. I was unaware of the hang ups and stall that happen, and I take responsibility for acting blindly. It's just I had done this about 3 times before, very smoothly, so it didn't really cross my mind that they could get hung up.

So anyway I put in a Moneygram about 9AM CST which I guess is like 3PM GMT, and it's been 10 hrs. I received within the first hour that Bitinstant had processed the order, but the funds did not arrive at Bitstamp. Rachel did reply to my email this morning saying it will be a while and then she would put it through when the reserves were up. I just don't know what I am looking at here, and I am pretty concerned since I put such a large chunk of my weekly check in.

I have a wallet elsewhere that I could receive funds, a couple actually, if Bitstamp is not an option right now. Here are my details:

OrderID: 5090dc08-95f5-4063-a410-70fb309581dd
EventID: 1957ca26-6402-460a-ac8a-482d8945ddd2
DestAccount: 66484
QuoteID: 4e0565ac-f14d-439a-bcdb-386826c22692

DestExchange: bitstamp
eventtype: Order executed
EventSentAt: 1362158634.49
APIResponse: {"error": "Invalid username and/or password"}
FundsSent: $288.03 USD

Thanks for anything you can do or any information...
