1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Strange Issue With GPU Not Recognized on Octominer on: April 27, 2018, 06:43:54 PM
I've been having this issue with a particular graphic card not being recognized by the octominer mainboard. It is an Asus RX580 Dual 4GB. I tried this card on 3 different motherboards all of different make/year/chipset MSI, Gigabyte, Asus.. It seems to be working very well with all of them. I even tried mining and some benchmarks with it, and it runs without issues. However whenever I attach it to the octominer it won't get recognized. It behaves like there is no graphic card at all. I tried adding only this card with no other GPUs, and it won't boot. It give 5 beeps signal(I think) which is for no GPU, that is with the onboard disabled. So it is not an OS issue, it simply won't boot. The interesting thing is that i have a bunch of all different kinds of GPUs on the octominer that all work perfectly well. All 8 cards on it currently are by different manufacturers. I have:

Zorac 1070
Palit 1070
KFA 1070

Sapphire Nitro+ 580
Powercolor 580
Gigabyte 580
XFX 580
Asus Strix 580

Do notice that an Asus Strix 580 works totally fine on the octominer. But an Asus Dual 580 will not get recognized. It's too bad that I don't have another of the same exact Asus Dual 580, but as I mentioned earlier I've ruled out the GPU being defective as it runs perfectly fine with other different kind of brand motherboards.

I also tried changing PEG Gen1,2,3 in BIOS with no avail. Tried a few more settings, PEG/PCI related that did not help.

Can someone please let me know what this could be? Is there anyone with a similar issue maybe?

Hey there!
Octominer support here. We have not encountered this issue ourself before. I recommend you do a clear CMOS and also try plugging in the GPU into a different slot to see if it works there. If that does not help then you can do a BIOS update.

Here's the instuctions on how to install the bios:
https://octominer.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/B8PLUS.zip

1. Unzip the B8PLUS rar
2. use rufus or any other bootable media creator. with rufus leave the
default settings, so it creates a dos bootable disk in uefi.
3. Copy the unpacked files to the U disk with (loose files without the folder.)
3. insert the usb into the motherboard to be upgraded.
4 Press F11 to select the usb to start.
5. Enter 1 in the DOS system and press enter. it may ask for a
confirmation after, press Y and enter.
6. power off the board after upgrade completes.

Notice that the first boot time after upgrade may take a few minutes!

Hoping this fixes the issue.

I wrote to your email and sent a PM, but you never replied.. I'm stuck with this GPU and the octominer here..

@octominer since you offered support here, do you have any other suggestions please?

Thanks for the extremely fast reply! I considered flashing the BIOS, but I received this mainboard a couple of days ago and it seems to have the latest BIOS already. Build date is 02/28/2018 and seems to be newer than the .bin file that you have linked. So I'm not sure whether I should flash it? Here is a screenshot. Please tell me whether your BIOS file is newer or contains more device IDs than the current installed version so I know whether flashing would be worth trying.

5  Other / Off-topic / [HIRING] Need Writers for Mining Blog - Earn While You Learn! on: April 07, 2018, 03:43:39 PM
Hey guys!

I have knowledge in hardware, but only recently started mining. It is a hobby I quickly became very passionate about. Since I’m also into managing websites, promoting online marketing etc. I’ve decided to start a blog about mining, fill it with useful content(tutorials, guides etc…), promote it with my own unique skills(my specialty) and see where this journey takes me. I plan on writing all kinds of interesting stuff all the same time while researching in my new found hobby: mining!

Mining, as with any tech niche, requires constant researching and upgrading your knowledge in order to stay on top. Since I am alone and not exactly an expert in the field I don't have the complete freedom to dedicate to writing. So I’ve decided to hire a few fellow members from this forum. They say you learn better when you write what you've just learned down. So you can get paid while learning writing about the art of mining cryptos, building rigs and modding BIOS's etc..

It doesn’t matter if you’re just beginning or an already experienced miner! I need only a few things from you guys:

1. Know how to write decent english
2. Be reasonable priced

That’s it! Since I will be heavily promoting the blog in a few months time(the time needed to become a reputable site) you will also get the chance to promote yourself as an expert in the industry. A writer bio will be included in all your articles and you can add links to your own social profiles, donate buttons etc… My specialty is online marketing so I will make this site popular with time! Of course if you like, you can still be a shadow writer without exposing yourself to the public and still get paid for it.

My plan is to hire a few writers within the following weeks, so in case you’re interested please apply using this form.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: April 02, 2018, 01:52:48 AM
This thread is huge so I will go ahead and ask these two questions:

1. Can one rig use two different miners at the same time? For example if I have mixed nVidia and AMD cards on one rig, I'd like to set ccminer to mine lets say ravencoin and the AMD cards to mine ETH. Is this possible?
2. I suppose the rigs would need to have windows installed on them. Is it possible to boot them from USB without the need of a hard drive?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer vs Onda B250 on: March 04, 2018, 12:14:23 AM
Wow thank you both guys for the useful info right here!

Do you think I can order only one board from that alibaba link for testing? Because it says minimum order quantity 10.

Also can I fit a Sapphire 580 Pulse on the slot which is blocked by the ATX connector?

I guess the Onda B250 is much more affordable in my situation then.

the zotac 1080ti mini fits let me check its length

pulse = 230mm

zotac = 219 mm

I will say  the zotac has 25mm room

so the pulse at 230 would fit.

I think any card under 235mm fits

Thanks for the measurements, very helpful!!

I already made an order with octominer, but now I'm not so sure anymore and I think I'm going to cancel it.

Now that hiveOS supports 3 rigs for free, I'm beginning to like the extra 4 PCIe on the onda. Smiley

Hey guys,

I'm located in EU. Actually I can receive both in UK, DE and Eastern EU.

Can you please PM me your prices for 570, 580 and 1070, 1080? Both used and new?

Basically any GPUs you think are reasonable priced? Smiley

Are you the OP? Different username...

No, I'm not OP. I forgot to apologize for hijacking this thread. Smiley

I wanted to request the exact same thing and since this one was kinda died down, I figured I should just post there.

I apologize for the confusion, maybe I should have opened another thread after all..

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Octominer vs Onda B250 on: February 28, 2018, 09:35:51 PM
I want to get a riserless board for my rig, but I cannot decide between these two boards.

Octominer vs Onda B250

The pros of Octominer:

1. Built-in CPU
2. Energy efficient CPU
3. Better Support Afterwards

The pros of Onda B250

1. Better chipset
2. Can replace CPU
3. Has additional 4+ PCIe ports which makes it 12 GPU mainboard

So where I live, I can get the Onda B250 + Celeron 7th Gen CPU at the same price as Octominer. And I can buy them quicker, because the seller is local.

What do you think should I go with the Onda B250 or Octominer? Any other pros/cons which I haven't mentioned? Can someone who has tried both tell me whether the Onda B250 has slightly more space between GPUs? It seemed that way to me from the pics and specs, but can someone confirm it?

I am the one who got scammed by him at socialengineered.net like many others. I opened up the thread on cracking.com that you guys posted here. He was banned from socailengineered because many complained that he scammed them over with the same scheme that he was trying to pull off here.

Btw he sent me the same picture from amazon with the same user Jack:

Not an honest seller. First he sets a price at $90 then he says $150.
