1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ħ [HODL] 5% Interest. No Staking Req. Term Deposits 10%. Solo Mining. on: April 02, 2018, 07:19:49 PM
April 2nd Announcement.

Today is really 2 announcements.

One - Java Library bitcoinj

First is the beta release of the bitcoinj library for HOdlcoin.
bitcoinj is a java library for working with Bitcoin. It targets SPV
light wallet functionality, ideal for use with mobile wallets

Previously this library was incompatible with HOdlcoin as it did not calculate
interest on the inputs to transactions. This release fixes that, so any projects
reliant on bitcoinj can now easily be ported to HOdlcoin.

Source: https://github.com/HOdlcoin/bitcoinj
JAR: https://github.com/HOdlcoin/bitcoinj/blob/coinomi-0.12/release/bitcoinj-core.jar

Two - Coinomi - Android Wallet

Coinomi is an Android wallet, built in Java and reliant on the bitcoinj code.
AmiT and I have been integrating the new library with Coinomi code and we will
have a beta release of a custom build of Coinomi ready for Thursday, April 5th.

This will allow you to use HOdlcoin on any Android device.

Nice work devs!  Not sure what to do with this news, but good to go!

optiminer dev, if you're listening, can you kick the min amount up to 1HODL or something?  or make the payout customizable for an account?  the microtransactions are getting a little crazy at .5 HODL each.

Yep.  Still hating discord.  Can't log on to discord now on the one computer I have that actually launches the app.  The rest just go to a black screened web page with nothing on it.  On one machine the app won't even download.  Reviews in the Microsoft Store are at least 3 to 1 against using it at all.  It's great that you have so many people (300 I think you said) signed up for the HODL page there.  I'm not likely to be one of them anytime soon.

Why are you downloading it from Microsoft Store?
https://discordapp.com/download

Because that's what happens when you click on the community link.  As I said previously, it needs directions.  Very difficult to read minds over the internet.

really frustrated with Discord, it just sucks.  hardly ever loads correctly, most times not at all.  I'm not sure why we went away from slack which worked all the time ever time.

That was a fun little burst of exchange activity over the weekend, let's see another one!

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: hOdlcoin Wallet test failed. on: January 19, 2018, 10:03:00 PM
I also installed hodlcoin wallet a while ago, processed all the data and even did some mining for several days.
Then the wallet was not syncing. I had mining opened for several days and I think because Hodlcoin is not so popular, that should bring something.
But now the wallet is just not syncing.
So that's probably dead coin?
But it's still listed on Coinmarketcap.
I discovered this coin because of funny name, and interesting conception of giving good interest for Hodling..
But if it's dead -that's sad.

Not dead Smiley

Just found HOdl. This is a fun coin. I hope it has a revival.

Hodl my beer.

Hodling by to Hodl by.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Payout transactions on: July 17, 2017, 02:05:58 AM
I've sent 3 deposits recently to coinexchange.io.

They are being received and confirmed, they are usable (exchangeable), and they are recorded in the blockchain according to fuzzbawls.

The hash of that specified block to see if i'm not the right chain matches perfectly in the debug window.

The balance of the transactions definitely gets taken from my wallet.

And yet, those transactions do not exist as far as my wallet transaction records are concerned.

I have gone so far as to delete everything except the wallet file out of the roaming directory and let it rebuild.

On 6/7/17 I sent 1 HODL as a test to coinexchange and that transaction dutifully shows up in my transaction log.  The 3 deposits in question were sent after that date.

Any suggestions?

Question from a HODL-beginner (but meanwhile # 2 on http://hodl.optiminer.pl/Smiley

I am mining on a Windows10 PC in a DOS-Window using the hodlminer-optiminer-fork.zip (http://cryptomining-blog.com/8196-new-faster-hodlminer-and-a-new-mining-pool-for-it-now-available/)
I installed the HOdlcoin Core - Wallet (HOdlcoin Core Version v3.0.1 (64-Bit)).

I mined and transfered 50 this morning. I transfered the "Principal"(Huh) to my Deposit.

Since then I mined further and now, the mining-stats say:

  • balance:      58.583
  • pending balance:   3.041
  • pending payout:   0.000

In the Wallet-Overview there are those informations:

LEFT SIDE / Balances
  • Available:   0.00040328 HODL
  • Pending:   0.00000000 HODL
  • Immature:   75.49408949 HODL
  • Total:      75.49449277 HODL
  • Available:   0.00040328

RIGHT SIDE / Recent transactions
  • 13.07.17 09:21 +49.99998840 HODL (received with my HODLadress ...)
  • 13.07.17 09:21 +0.00040325 (HODL-Adress I dont know)
  • 13.07.17 05:15 +50.00000000 (Mined Confirmed 310 confimations)

BOTTOM / HOdlings (only one row)
  • Status         HOdled
  • Principal      49.99998840
  • Accrued Interest   0.00822637
  • Accrued Value   50.00822637
  • On Maturation   75.49473154
  • Term (Days)      365
  • Deposit Block   0281625
  • Maturation Block   0486391
  • Estimated Date   2018/07/13

MY QUESTIONS:
1. The requirement for a payout? I thought: Balance >=50 then payout
2. After a payout I need 21 confirmations before the mined 50 (Blocks/HODLES???) are transfered to my pending balance?
3. After each payout I have to transfer the pending amount to my deposit?

Optiminer's pool pays out using the structure created when everything you mined was automatically hodl'ed for 1 year in your wallet.  So, when your balance reaches 50 hodl, you 'get in line' with anyone else who has a balance of 50 or more, and when it is your turn an entire block (50 hodl) is mined to your address, thus paying you 50 hodl.  Now, since the last fork, mined coins don't autohodl, so yes, you will have to manually deposit anything that you want to HODL in a term deposit in your wallet.

suprnova pool, optiminer isn't compatible, just checked

I thought suprnova hodl pool was dead

Last we heard from optiminer he said he had shutdown the pool. ( i think it was around the time someone had try'd something with negative timestamps, which is the primary reason we had to create the 3.0.1 wallet ).

Officially we don't really promote pool's, the ANN front page says clearly,
"Mining direct from the wallet is very efficient and is the recommended way of supporting the network."

Having said that there are hodl pools out there...

Optiminer's pool is alive and well as far as I can tell.  I'm still getting blocks from it.

ok, but geez, another hard fork already?  and we already talked about the 1 cent being really expensive right now.

Hodl going over a penny each this afternoon has to help the coin's image some!

I love to see that, I hope it continues.

Could you guys stop being so vague, what exactly did Bittrex say. Pls post the quote here. Those name changes are terrible. The term Hodl is prolific. If it needs to be changed it gonna have to be a good name not just some letters crammed together. Fish

Don't have the exact quote, it was over a year ago, but the gist of it was that the theme of nuts was unprofessional, and that adding us would make them unprofessional.

My response to that is...

As far as the "brand", don't go and try to fix something that isn't broken is my opinion.

The squirrel metaphor is perfect. The name is also so well defined that as a newb I kept thinking the people saying 'hodl' on other threads were referring to this coin. That's a good thing. It's a marketing exec's dream come true.

<- How is this not perfect? It immediately tells you every single thing you need to know about the coin.

If bittrex doesn't like "nutoshi" change it to "acorns" or "stores". If they still don't like it they won't ever like it so no point in bending over backwards for what has got to be a very small minority opinion if not just one person's over there.

Make the coin stable, remove confusion about which branch/tree/sapling, have some user friendly well documented tools that don't hog resources or are deprecated before they are even downloaded. Make it so that someone interested in this coin isn't required to find this very thread just to make it work. That's what the coin needs, more devs, more community, and current docs.

Yes, this coin definitely need more exposure - maybe someone can step forward and be a community leader of sort.

As I, and others, have said before, we need to find and accumulate uses for this coin.  Specifically we need to find merchants willing to accept it.  Whether this is someone selling online guitar lessons or alpaca wool socks or trained ferrets  or whatever we need to get commerce going.  We need to do this before we start chasing more exchanges.  Adding more exchanges (if it's even possible) is only going to encourage more mining and dumping activity that I see people complain about because it will be more convenient for the dumpers to list their coins.  People do not need more ways to get this coin, they need a reason to get it and something to do with it.  Otherwise we're all just standing in a circle holding our nuts....I mean, uh, ACORNS!  There's a logo for you, a bunch of squirrels standing in a circle holding their acorns, cause that's where we are right now.

So, if your favorite online or brick and mortar store accepts crypto, contact them and see if they would be willing to accept HODL, even on a trial basis.  If we get a good base of merchants going, THEN you can take that list to exchanges and show them that the coin is desirable.  Chasing exchanges now is simply hoping for a false frenzy on a new exchange to temporarily boost the price.  We don't need a pump and dump, we need this coin project to grow for real.

what might be considered is a new logo. there had been some new designs posted here. maybe it should be more on the nut side than on ths squirrel side :-)

what definetely should be more defined is why people should have it. safety like inside a nutshell. keeping you away from trading losses and transaction fees are the key features in my opinion.
fast transaction speed and increased capacity should make it even more comfortable to use.

I like the current logo, nice Beatrix Potter vibe that says your money is safe with us and oh by the way why don't you have some chamomile tea while you wait for your coins to mature. Tongue Totally agree there needs to be more marketing of what this coin has to offer, the focus on stability and long term interest is a nice contrast to most of the market. Especially love the idea of retiring coins through transactions and the scaled fees. What would be nice is the ability to do custom length deposits so that if it takes me a month to get a nice nut stash and I'm depositing along the way I can have them all mature on the same date (does this already exist? can't remember and I'm not at my wallet).

Custom length deposits are already there.  You can choose months, weeks, days, or even blocks, and then specify the number of them to HODL.

I ran some amusing advertising 'commercials' through my head the other day based on the safety of HODLing vs being a victim of the markets, as well as one touting the lightning fast speed of the HODL network vs the slow BTC network.  I have no drawing or video skills but maybe I can storyboard them out if anyone has an interest in playing with them.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ħ [HODL] 5% Interest. No Staking Req. Term Deposits 10%. Solo Mining. on: June 26, 2017, 07:14:33 PM
...
Now your point is correct - if we aim for a 1cent transaction fee, then a hodl output worth less than 1 cent is effectively worthless (with some caveats).  I'm happy enough with that - I see the network as a place for 10cent+ transactions. I think other technologies and second layers are more suitable for sub-cent transactions.
...
By my rough calculation, a block of 50 HOdlcoin is only worth about 6 or 7 cents. If you HOdl that block, you must pay between 14-17% at today's HOdl/BTC rates. I think that is overly steep at this stage and more than a bit destructive to the current ecosystem. It will effectively drive out any of today's small time miners. At some point, I do think it could be worth looking at a target fee such as you have proposed, but I do not think that day is today.

...
Is it too soon for another change? No, I think either HODL is improving or its dying.
I believe that depends on your definition of improving. It seems to me that you are attempting to progress HOdlcoin which is not the same as improving it.

To continue with that thought, if I mine with a pool (let's use optiminer's as the example), and my payouts come in 50 HODL each payments, those are worth (at the moment) about 10 cents usd.  Optiminer's pool sends the payment to me, and a 1 cent fee is incurred (which is destroyed).  So that's 1/10th the value of the payment.  I will assume the pool is not likely to be absorbing those costs out of the goodness of their hearts.  So let's say they get passed on to the miners.  Now my payment of 50 HODL has cost me 5 HODL on top of the pool fee (1%, or .5 HODL)  I was already paying which effectively brings the pool fee to 11%.  Who among us wouldn't die laughing if a pool advertised an 11% fee?

Now I HODL those 50 in the wallet, and another 10% is taken in transaction fees?  So by the time I get paid for mining and get my nuts safely hodled away, I actually get a value of 39.5 HODL out of a block of 50.  21% in fees for every 50 HODL is straight out nuts.  Not to mention the compounded loss when you start talking about interest lost on the coins that are taken up in fees.

So ok, yes, you can mitigate this some by pools upping the minimum payout amount so that the percentage of the total payment that is taken by the 1 cent fee is less, but then the pool is now holding on to my HODL that could be earning interest in my wallet.  Meanwhile, in my wallet, I'm having to mimic the pool's payout scheme when I HODL by waiting until I have a substantial balance to HODL in order to minimize the impact the fee will have as a percentage of my HODL transaction.  And the longer I wait, the more interest I lose out on.  You also put massive pressure on HODL'ers to choose the longer term deposits, because doing short term deposits will cost more in transaction fees (re-hodling every say 30 days to keep your HODL somewhat liquid would cost you the transaction fee 12 times a year instead of 1 with a yr HODL).  And voila, we're back to everyone having to HODL for a year, only now it's not a requirement, it's the only economically sensible thing to do.

If you really want to implement something like this now you need to write it to scale to the current value of a HODL, maybe updating the fee amount once a month (or week, or day, whatever is reasonable).  And right now 1 cent per transaction is highway robbery.

-If you're getting this, then we're agreed on the blockchain - as is fuzz's block explorer, and coinexchange.io as best as I can tell.

anything else, and you might be on a different chain.

2 of 3 machines show the correct result.  the third is still 30 weeks behind trying to sync the chain so that hash is out of range.  58 active connections with loads of 3.01 peers and it's been days trying to sync.

On one of two that shows the correct result it is still missing the send to self transaction of a couple of days ago.

I have 3 instances of my wallet on 3 different computers.  All are at 3.01 now.  Last night I blew away the blocks and chainstate folders on all of them.  today, I have one wallet that seems to be current, and I used that to do a "send to self" transaction today.  On the computer that I did the transaction on, everything is normal.  On a second computer, my transaction list is missing the send to self transaction.  On the third computer, I'm stuck synchronizing at 49 weeks behind.  So things are rather....inconsistent right now.

Something similar happened to me. One wallet synced fine, one on another comp did not.

I just copied the blockchain data from the good instance over to the other wallet I have on another computer. I also made sure to add the connected nodes from the good one to the other. Seems to have worked.

The faster everyone switches to v3.0.1 the better, i still see a lot of folks on v3.0.0

Yes, I think that is likely the reason this is so jacked up right now.  I think I would follow the advice to copy the blockchain over but I'm not really confident in one wallet cloned showing me the true picture.  Hell, I'm not even sure what the true picture is anymore.

What version hodl client are you using v2 or v3
I tried sending to different addresses still nothing

I am using v3.0.1

I tried sending some hodl to another wallet, and nothing either.
I even tried looking at hodl explorer and no record, so I don't know why I can't send coins anywhere.

Blockexplorer shows I should have 450 hodl from the pool, so the pool paid out but the coins don't show up in the wallet.  And, my debug/information window shows that I'm a good two days behind in blocks read.  So that's the issue.
