1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Should I buy this GPU? on: November 19, 2013, 07:34:02 AM
I can get this GPU for $160:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130072

Thinking of doing some script mining what do you guys think?

Get yourself a HD7950 don't bother with this GPU.

Imho, if you want to make a profit, consider selling your Bitcoin mining hardware, instead of buying. I sold my 7970 because it stopped generating a profit this summer.
2  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: April 25, 2013, 05:36:48 PM
If somebody has a lot of BTC unpaid by the pool and it has been delayed without reason, one might be very angry (and at the extreme track down and sue Slush for financial damages!?) if they lose a lot due to the holdup. Not his problem right? Fortunately, today the BTC value has not dropped much more than a percent at any small period so far. So lets hope for the best...

Its not that I'm ungrateful towards Slush for trying to sort this mess out - quite the opposite. I was just pointing out the problem that even small delays in payments might have catastrophic results for users.

I suggest the minimum payout value be capped to minimize pool liability in case coins do get lost. This would somewhat lower the risk huge damage claims. Of course this would only help for coins mined in the past and not for coins mined during the time payments are not processed.

Yer a fkn idiot! Anyone who thinks that Slush is responsible for them mining on Slush's pool or ANYTHING that results from that needs a trout upside their stupid head!

What?! So now I'm an idiot because the pool doesn't come with a proper disclaimer in the terms of service for such cases and some bastard tries to profit from that "legally" by sueing him? I guess such a person would certainly find some laws etc which regulate the pool in EU (assuming Slush operates from the EU) and could have very good arguments against him. If they just want to cash in, it wouldn't even matter to them whether Slush is responsible or not. And they might have a very good chance of winning such legal battles.

And you're calling me a fkn idiot for pointing to these risks?

EDIT: If this is impossible, prove me wrong.

If you look at the account page on mining.bitcoin.cz, on the left hand news column, first item.

Pool is in normal operation, delayed payouts will be processed in the afternoon (UTC).

Which might mean any time from 12:00 to 23:59 UTC, a timespan of about 12h. It was just this month we saw the BTC price drop 60% in less than 6 hours...

I can assure you, you posting about it isn't going to speed things up.

Slush has to do his due diligence before he lets payments fly.

Otherwise he could always just say screw it, anti wants his payment now so he can sell off a few quick btc while the market is hot.  Then when things get screwed up and hundreds of btc end up in the wrong place it's not his problem right?

Pool is currently calculating block rewards, but payouts are not processed. I want to give you some time for a feedback, if block rewards are calculated +/- as expected. I need some rest now, but I'll incorporate your comments then and process payouts of your mined coins.

I'd prefer to take out my bitcoins and exchange them right now, because the exchange rates are rather good for me at the moment. Smiley

Very sorry to hear about this Slush. I hope other pool admins take note, this is now a billion dollar industry and DDOS, hacking, fraud will increase exponentially too as coins are very hard to trace.

I have continued mining for the pool, but would also appreciate an ETA on various aspects.

Website beign Up so earnings can be viewed.
Commencement of payouts.

Even as a rough guide, at least it will stop me and others from continually bugging you while you're busy.

I was just about to ask the same:

The bitcoins I have earned on this pool should have been confimed and payed out by now, because last time I checked (about 2 hours before the break-in) it was about 30 confirmations away from being confirmed with respect to my payout minimum. However, no payouts have occurred as of now. I guess this is also because the pool was hacked? When can we expect the payouts to continue? I mean the BTC prices are quite good at the moment and I'd very like to sell before they fall again. Please fix this soon! Thanks!
7  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 3.0.1: modular ASIC/FPGA, GBT, Strtm, RPC, Lnx/OpnWrt/PPA/W64, BFLSC on: April 24, 2013, 07:18:34 AM
Could everyone who was experiencing the crash-on-pool-switch please answer: are you GPU mining?

Yes. OpenCL/Tahiti. It just happened again after Slush moved his pool servers about 9-10 hours ago (pool got hacked).
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Send bitcoins from selected addresses using bitcoin-qt on: April 23, 2013, 05:27:45 PM
Hi!

I have several addresses in my bitcoin-qt wallet. Is it possible for me to select from which addresses I want to initiate a transfer from? I want coins only to be transferred from some of these addresses, but not all. How to do it?

Thanks!

Which kernel does bfgminer run by default?

Afaik it selects one automatically depending on you hardware/drivers. You can probably find out by saving a configuration file from inside bfgminer and checking the
Code:
"kernel":
line or using
Code:
bfgminer --debuglog 2> logfile.txt
to write a debug log which should include information about such stuff.
10  Bitcoin / Pools / C in score based algorithm on: April 19, 2013, 05:32:38 PM
Thanks Slush for getting the pool back up!  Wink

Given all the DDoS and the surge in new users, have you ever changed C in the score-based reward algorithms or has it remained to be 300?

There is no reason that Newbies can't participate in intelligent and useful discussion in the Newbie sub-forum to reach their 5 post requirement.

Except, of course, for being impatient or unintelligent...

I was scammed on another forum when I tried to sell some BTC. Never again will I send first grrrrrr :| I wish I had found this forum first with all the tips and warnings.

I wonder whether contacting the police would help in most countries.

There's already at least one thread for this in the newbies board.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust No One on: April 18, 2013, 04:25:10 PM
Good advice. Trust no one.

Can you seriously state you trust that advice? Grin At one moment or the other one still needs to trust someone when operating with bitcoin or any other currency. It's actually just about minimizing risks and being sceptical.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: share your hashrate with system specs. compare with others. on: April 18, 2013, 03:46:55 PM
Club3D Radeon HD 7970 royalQueen with 925 MHz GPU, running at 1160 MHz on top of a PCI express 1.0 x16 lane. Average hashrate 650 MH/s.

Edit: I suggest buying a 7970 with the GPU clocked higher in the factory than 925 MHz. Forgot to check my MHz when I bought it Cry but I still expect to earn back the money in at least 6 months, being somewhat sceptical.

Who are doing those attacks? Shouldn't Anonymous trying to find the scums?

Anonymous!? HAH! Who is anonymous? Is it composed of random freelancers or just a name for secret services to hide behind? Either way, maybe its not in their best (financial) interests.

19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox? Safe? on: April 18, 2013, 03:06:56 PM
I'll trust the Russians over the Japs... anytime

Given the amount of media coverage for russian versus japanese crackers, I trust the japanese. In addition, Russia won't hand out criminals afaik. So in case they are charged or convicted only in other countries, there's probably no way to legally punish them as long as they stay in Russia.
