Devs, tell us % of share in ETH for IPO investors.
And put max. market cap for IPO.
We need to know what we got for our money

First thing, you are *not* a investor. The ethereum devs are clearly labelling all of you as "purchasers" of ethereum and not as "investors". Which should be interpreted accordingly.

Second, there is no max cap on this "IPO" and there is no max cap on the produced ether after IPO which means your "purchase" will inflate over time. Just like fiat dollars. Inflation = it will lose value over time.

this picture from a earlier post in this thread shows it all: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=428589.msg7994191#msg7994191

This picture in that thread clearly shows that the amount of purchased ether will be severely "watered out" over time. Unless the market grows faster and more than the speed of this obvious inflation of ether, the value will drop over time.

Thus, they are labelling you all "purchasers" and not "investors". Most likely they did so in order to make it more "lawyer-proof" if any of the "purchasers" gets pissed for losing money. Smiley

that has nothing to do with your argument about running out of etherium as "fuel". That's silly.

You sure have a very overactive imagination. Where exactly did i write we will "run out of ethereum as fuel"? Seems to me, perhaps; your brain is running out of oxygen since it's starting to hallucinate? Hallucinations are a well-known side-effect of lack of oxygen. Your brain must be hallucinating, since I never ever wrote anything about running out of ethereum as "fuel". Thus, one should then conclude you should perhaps try breathe a bit more often?
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2014, 06:39:54 AM
but in order for it to be long-term successful the price of the "fuel" (ethereum) that is required to run the applications *must* decrease over time to stay competitive. Thus, a long-term "investment" in such "fuel" would then be foolish.

OR, the amount of Ether it takes to run the same application decreases over time, while the price could stay the same or go higher... Roll Eyes

Well that *is* a big fat *OR* at this point, is it not? Smiley
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2014, 06:13:00 AM
This nonsense.

Why yes, of course, dear Sir. Perception is *always* subjectively linked to the observer and "nonsense" is of course correct with your perception; since you are the observer, thus linked to *your* perception. This is very well fine and dandy, but I personally would be cautious betting too much of *my* money on *your* particular type of perception. Because, obviously; I do *not* share *your* kind of perception, and never will. Smiley

Just because you use the word "nonsense" in a authoritative sounding tone, does not make it more "true" against my common logic breakdown of known facts. Carry on with your duck-hunting. I don't mind. Because I don't eat duck. Cheesy

You argument is similar to someone claiming 21 million BTC aren't enough, even though we know we will never run out of BTC as there are plenty of satoshi per BTC

Nope. That is *your* claim and argument. Bitcoin is a currency and a storage of wealth, while ethereum is a "fuel" for running decentralized applications, which they clearly also state on their web-pages. Thus, Bitcoin and Ethereum can *not* be directly compared, because they are not the same. But this all brings us back to how "perception" works in a observer's mind, does it not? Smiley

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ethereum: Welcome to the Beginning on: July 24, 2014, 05:26:00 AM
This is definitely over priced, Im not sure what they are thinking. 1 btc for 2k ethereum = 1 eth at 50K sat. At the current buy rate we will see around 600 Million buys. To be conservative lets say 200 Million token buys. I also asked in irc if there was going to be a cap and the answer was no. So I have no clue how buying into ethereum now is better vs mining or buying later. Right now crypto is so volatile that 5 months is an eternity at this rate I don't see how it will hold its value. BlackCoin already has smart contracts and black halo with a cap of 69 Million coins Pos, current price 14k sat per coin/token. Im pretty sure projects will develop that will challenge ethereum making it tuff for the token values to sustain for a long period of time. If anyone has more updated info than me as to why the value will grow on the tokens than by all means, open to other views. As an investors this whole entire project is way to complicated for me to understand what Im investing in and what my return will be if any in comparison to other exciting projects like blackcoin or vericoin that also have block chains were people could build on top of

And that is why the ethereum-team so carefully have labeled people who pre-buy ethereum now as "purchasers" and *not* "investors". That may seem like a insignificant semantics-detail for most people, but it seems clear to me it's been deliberately chosen for a *very* specific reason, and that is to make sure no "investors" will be hurt by it's obvious endless inflation-ratio (price-drop).

One can use common logic sense:

What is ethereum? It's mainly a "fuel" for running decentralized applications.

What is required from any platform that wish to become long-term successful as a "application service"? Look at any service like cloud-services etc. In order to be long-term successful as a provider of space where applications can be run, the price of such service *needs* to become cheaper and cheaper over time.

If you want to stay within the "laws of physics" in this area, one should then conclude with that; *IF* this platform becomes successful, the price of the "fuel" (ethereum) *MUST* keep on dropping steady in price, or else the application-creators/runners will not be able to afford running their applications in a competitive manner.

Ethereum looks awesome technically speaking. But "investing" in ethereum as a means of earning money seems foolish, unless they want the "fuel" to become more and more expensive over time. Which is in such case, absurd. Look at what disasters increasing oil-prices have on this planet. It forces poverty to grow. Not a pretty sight. If they want this "fuel" (ethereum) to become more and more expensive over time, it will then *not* become successful. Not a single talented application-developer/runner would even consider trying to use a platform for their application if they knew the run-cost would always increase over time. Imagine web-hosting become ever more expensive. Not many web-sites, if any at all; would exist at this point if such price-increase were a fact.

So, using the "elimination method" on all these known factors, we can conclude it will be a bad idea to "invest" in this "fuel" on long-term. Because if this platform *wants* to become successful, the run-cost of the applications *must* decrease over time. If the run-cost does not decrease over time, it will force the application-developers/runners to stop using it, or look elsewhere to run it at a cheaper more affordable price-level.

Which in turn, leads us back to my original statement of "why" they chose to use the label "purchasers" instead of "investors". I'm pretty sure the ethereum-developers are *very well* aware of the exact details i just wrote in this reply, and chose their semantics wisely thereafter to avoid pitchforks and torches outside their houses at night sometime in future.

Now, all this been said; As a short-term speculative "investment" this may very well turn out to be *incredible* profitable, since it seems to have gotten unprecedented hype-factors for months. Or it may very well plummet like a rock as 80% of all super-hyped stock-IPO's usually do when launched. (And yes i'm using the IPO semantics here even tho ethereum itself does not. Just because someone does *not* use a definition, does not mean its not the right one to use. If it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck, its a goddam duck) SO, one should calculate risk Vs Reward factors before purchasing (and NOT "investing" as the ethereum-devs clearly points out in their demographics) this "fuel" at the very least.

TL;DR:

Ethereum looks like a awesome project technically speaking, but in order for it to be long-term successful the price of the "fuel" (ethereum) that is required to run the applications *must* decrease over time to stay competitive. Thus, a long-term "investment" in such "fuel" would then be foolish. It would then be better to buy this fuel *when* you actually need it. The ethereum-devs further strengthens this fact by intentionally using clear semantics in their documents that you are a "purchaser" of this fuel (ethereum), and *not* a investor of this "fuel" in their demographics on their web-pages.

200% ! What the hell..

Thats about the same inflation-rate as normal fiat-currencies like EURO and USD got for the time being.

Due to this, i'm sure this coin will be a insane long-term success. /s

Who made this coin? Ben "The Helicopter" Bernanke? LOL!  Cheesy
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox attack from: accounts compromised on: July 15, 2013, 04:40:21 PM
Want to say that this did NOT happen to me. I have 2FA (yubikey), is it possible the attackers knew who had 2FA and who did not? I did have assets in my mtgox acct.

That may be a possibility. I did not have a 2-factor active myself. But now I do. Downloaded Google Authenticator as soon as I managed to get back into my account. It was 24 horrible hours to wait for the PW-reset timer to reset so I could get back in.

Thankfully I did not have much money on my account, but still not fun to experience. At least my few dollars I had there were not touched. All good so far.
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MtGox attack from: accounts compromised on: July 15, 2013, 03:09:45 PM
I can confirm this, it happened to me too a few days ago. Password-request was made by attacker, he managed to grab the reset-link WITHOUT compromising my email-server.

Thankfully I noticed it within a hour after it happened, since I get my emails to my phone almost instantly. So I saw it the instant I woke up and peaked on my phone-screen. I quickly jumped up from bed and sent a email to MtGox, and MtGox staff was able to lock-down withdrawals fast enough. I did not lose any money.

But still, I definitely got hacked. And the hacker managed to change PW without touching my email server.

Close call this time, no doubt.

11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to BitCoin and Iphone 5 as well on: April 16, 2013, 11:12:47 AM
Can somebody explain to dummy how to download and install to IPhone 5 an official bitcoin client? Do I need any applications to be preinstalled? I tried but havn't succeed.

Apple banned all "local based" bitcoin wallets from their app store. Sad

The only wallet that works good as far as i have tested on iPhone is the online web wallet from https://blockchain.info/wallet/ web-site. They also have their own iPhone app with integrated web-browser to use the online wallet with.

hmmm i see. I guess they might be right then. Now I suddenly got a bit insecure myself regarding the Covert Browser, if the answer you got from them is true.  Huh
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to BitCoin and Iphone 5 as well on: April 15, 2013, 08:34:01 AM

Thank you very much ! But, I talked to Tor support and was told by them that it is unsafe to use iphone and they can't guarantee anonymity. I'm really new in that sphere of smartphones. Is it really possible to be secured on that device - from Apple first of all ?

Tor support may not been aware of the existence of the App i sent you link to. So you could contact the Tor support again and send them link to that App and ask if they have been testing it or something?

As far as it goes for my own usage, seems the Covert Browser works very good on my iPhone 4S. Seems to cover my true IP 100% so far.

But then again, A hard-core security-expert would most likely tell you that in order to be 100% safe, you should not connect to internet at all. LOL.  Roll Eyes

I would like to be whitelisted, thank you. Been registered for awhile.

I hate to write stuff about myself tho, feels like "forced bragging" in order to prove i got som kind of brain.

Check my current forum-post replies in newbie-section, hopefully my answers are a couple notches higher than a vegetable?  Roll Eyes

I do not have much time to sit stare at the screen for several hours and click random links just to pump up my "time used" to 4 hours. Would be nice to skip that part.

Thanks for considering to insta-teleport me into the superduper club of this forum.  Cheesy

15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where Do You Want To See Bitcoins In 5 Years Time? on: April 15, 2013, 08:08:18 AM
I would like to see this within 5 years of bitcoin:

- Receive all my bills in the mail-box with a QR code so i can flip out my phone, scan and pay them in a flash with my bitcoin-wallet without logging onto a Stone-Age looking web-bank account which by the way, is constantly attempted to be phished by scammers with fake emails all day long. Bitcoin = Problem solved.

- Walk into my grocery, pick up my food, scan a QR code at the exit, and off i go, soon to have a happy, stuffed stomac

- When I park my car, I should just walk up to a parking-ticket box, type in how long I should be parked, scan the QR code then receive a ticket i put in my car.

- Pay for everything on internet with bitcoin. I hope within 5 years, bitcoin completely killed paypal dead. Bye bye frustrations of paypal.

- Order plane-tickets using bitcoin. Both through web-sites and directly on the airport. And regardless what country I choose to go to, when I arrive, i should be able to purchase and pay for anything I want in that country using the awesomeness of "Flip out phone, scan QR code, click, finished!" - and off i go, happy as a clam.

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions! on: April 15, 2013, 07:55:57 AM
Isn't bitstamp main-office located in UK? Then I would presume getting your money back would be pretty fast, if theyr customer service are up to bar?
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to get bitcoins with credit card on: April 15, 2013, 07:49:59 AM
you can contact them through the web-site. Who knows, maybe you are in luck and it's a good dealer.

But, use common sense ok. I would not trust a random guy i meet there with high amount of money. At least not until i've met him a few times and feel he's not up to something fishy.

And if you manage to agree for a personal meeting with a guy from that web-site, always demand to meet at a public place where theres other people around. Don't wanna end up being mugged in a alley somewhere, you know.

That web-site is like craigslist.com for bitcoins, so you could end up meeting a crazy guy for what i know. LOL.

So, as they say "Buyer beware!"
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trading on Ripple on: April 15, 2013, 07:45:21 AM

19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to get bitcoins with credit card on: April 15, 2013, 07:41:25 AM
how long will they be in quarantine for? i don't want to have to wait forever

mmmm. At least on my account, they sometimes quarantined the bitcoins for 7-14 days.

But after I fully verified my account, they usually send my coins within 24 hours now. I verified my ID by sending copy of my driver-license AND used wire-transfer several times, from my bank account with my real name, which gave them proof enough to give me higher security-level and faster bitcoin payout.
oh ok thanks very much
i will use virwox next time. i think for now i will buy gift cards from amazon and re-sell them.. because i need bitcoins by next friday

Have you considered checking out localbitcoins.com to see if theres a local bitcoin dealer nearby your home? You might be lucky and find someone nearby with good ratings on that web site.

Hello,
I'm new to these two subjects. I wonder, is it safe to use my device anonymously, without being identified ? As I understood, it is not possible to use a Tor on IOS.
I'll be grateful to anybody who can shed light on that issue.

You can indeed use TOR on iPhone. With "Covert Browser".

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/covert-browser/id477438328?mt=8

Works like a charm for me. It even changes your TOR routing once per like 3-5 minutes which makes it look like you are jumping IP addresses like a rabbit.
