1  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Ravenbit Reference Thread on: January 26, 2016, 03:36:05 AM
UPDATE:

25 Jan 2015: It has been a pleasure serving all of you as customers, but I've decided to move on; Ravenbit will not be releasing any new coins and has ceased all operations. Thank you for the support over the past 2 years and I wish all of you the best!

I'm going to be locking this thread in the near future; all of the coin info in the OP should be up to date.
2  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Ravenbit Reference Thread (Availability, Details, Pics) on: December 31, 2015, 01:58:43 AM
I was always wondering if the "A"s came from the original stock.....and now we know!!!!
that's a whole lotta' carbon spotting considering this was half the original stock.
Were these originally set aside and not sold?? or are there some floating around out there??

Most were set aside and I've spent considerable time examining and re-examining them; adding and subtracting here and there. It's been unnecessarily time consuming and it is unlikely I'll make a brass coin without a finish on it (like the bronze) again. The issue is not exclusive to this mint.  There are definitely coins floating around with some carbon spotting, but unlikely to be as severe as the coins slotted for destruction. The exception is the 50 L.E.'s which I reluctantly sold regardless of condition (I know that you have some of the L.E.'s with the spotting). I'm guessing most people don't even notice the carbon spotting, but it was driving me nuts.

Were the LEs part of the initial batch and just stamped differently??
It would make sense and add up to around 1000 brass coins minted for you Wink

Yes, 1000 coins minted (not including samples). 50 of the coins were stamped 01 to 50 by the mint. ~275 of the coins were hand stamped "R" by myself and 216 of the coins were hand stamped "A" by myself.

Wow.....between these and the Satoshi coins, I would get your $$ back. LOL Cheesy
Thanks

The mint made me whole (plus some) both times. I've had no issues with the copper or the silver coins I've minted with them.

UPDATE:

28 Dec 2015: There are now 12 Node Brass (series 2.0) remaining for sale, out of a mintage of approximately 275. This is a revision downward from an original mintage of approximately 950; good news for those of you who already own a Node Brass. The revision can be accounted for as follows: 216 used for Node Brass "A" (series 2.0.2); 462 with severe carbon spotting scheduled for destruction. These numbers are not final and are subject to slight revision.

Announcement/Update:

24 Dec 2015: Today is Ravenbit's 2 year anniversary; thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last two years! I will be releasing a new design in January 2016 (the mint is currently in the process of making the dies). If you'd like to be notified when the new coin is ready to be released, and you haven't already signed up for my very infrequent release newsletter, pm me your email address and I'll be sure you're added to the list.

Those Ungraded Cryptolator 0.1 Copper made me check my bank account if I have enough to buy so I can add to my collection... OP do you ship overseas?

Sure, First Class International is around 5-7USD.

2014 Ravenbit Node Copper #66 PF67 DCAM <0.199BTC>
2014 Ravenbit Node Copper #69 PF67 DCAM <0.349BTC>
2014 Ravenbit Node Copper #44 PF68 DCAM <0.249BTC>
2014 Ravenbit Node Copper #99 PF68 DCAM <0.249BTC>
2014 Ravenbit Node Copper #45 PF69 DCAM <0.449BTC>

Nice grades. Wondering why the PF designation and not MS? I know PF is used to designate a proof coin vs an uncirculated mint state (MS) coin, but ANACS graded all of my Node Coppers "MS".

I thought it was related to the DCAM. Do you have any DCAM with a MS grade?

Yeah, all 4 of the Node Coppers I had graded were DCAM

Naming is the second question I haven't quite finalized. I will be working with Bithalo to formulate 'official' names (a sort of naming convention according to which all coins can be accurately named) for all coins according to a standardized format. This will likely put 'manufacturer-assigned names' or 'nicknames' is quotes at the end of the assigned name that is meant for categorization purposes.

Coming up with your own names for coins will likely only further confuse the issue. I understand the urge to "standardize" and "categorize", but it may be difficult given every manufacturer has their own way of doing things.

Ravenbit
Antique Bronze Coin, 2014 (UF) 'Node 2.4'
-Should 'metal' be specified in the name? Should it be specified always, sometimes, or never? what if metal is unckown? I need to decide this.

There is a simple solution: list the composition of the coin separately (not in the name). Listing Antique Bronze as the metal is actually incorrect; it is a brass (85% copper; 15% zinc) coin with an "antique bronze" finish. Bronze is typically copper and tin.

The series is 2.3; the website has not been updated, but the bitcointalk reference page in my signature is pretty much up to date.

- Frankly, I find the use of the 'series' concept to be extremely confusing, as not all manufacturers designate series. sometimes multiple 'series' are released at the same time. Is it designated based on hologram or production order or design? What about 'grey areas'? That said I do use the concept of 'series' in some descriptions in a more casual way, but want to avoid using them in formal categorization..

Ok then don't use it in your book; it's your book after all (I mean you can refer to a coin as Shittyhead fuckface Version 1 if you want! It's your book!) However, the fact of the matter is my reference page and website will be the official reference for all of my coins. I've put together a large amount of info on the thread and website and will be expanding/cleaning it up after the release of my newest design.

I'm not sure I have explained this before, but I use series as an alternate name for the coin. For example the "Node Bronze AT" Series 2.3.1 is broken down as follows:

2 represents the design (the first design "satoshi" is "1" and my next design will be "3")
3 represents the metal/finish
1 represents any special variations (in this case the artifical toning; or in the case of the Node L.E. the special serialized numbers)

The numbers are sequential based on release date.
10  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN][WTS] Brand new line of Physical Coins! Series one SOLD OUT! on: December 09, 2015, 05:00:55 PM
Just sold the last coins of my first series of Genesis Coins.  Working on the next series right now which should be ready in the first quarter of next year!

wheelz1200

Congrats on selling out your first series.
11  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Ravenbit Reference Thread (Availability, Details, Pics) on: December 09, 2015, 04:44:24 PM

Nice! Almost as impressive as my collection  Cheesy  Good luck getting those last two bronze-AT's.

p.s. - The "zero set" isn't really "a thing", unless I guess if you guys insist on it being "a thing"

Not a thing, but a nice "subset" of the Satoshis for those into numerical collecting of cryptos.
I know people (myself included) try for certain numbers if available from manufacturers.
For some, it holds meaning. For others, might just be a random.  Grin

Excellent point, I agree.

I have a couple questions, since this is the Ravenbit-Reference-Thread (RRT):
(note: these are being asked after reading most/all of the forum pages involving trades/sales/auctions of the Ravenbit coins)

Absolutely, I encourage any and all questions to be asked in this thread.

What happened to Satoshi coins that were being auctioned here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=791861

4 were sold after the completion of the auction and 1 was kept in personal collection.

What happened to coin #9 & #69 that were auctioned here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=588389

Sold to a buyer who contacted me after the completion of the auction.

What happened to 4 Satoshi sample coins
https://ravenbit.com/2014/08/31/satoshi-mintage/

They were never for sale and I still have possession of them. I list them in the mintage for the sake of transparency and thoroughness. The samples do not have serial numbers and 2 of the 4 are partially "frosted" on the obverse. When I get a chance, I'll post a pic.

New Coin Naming Convention

I have put together the below standardized format for identifying coins and rounds in the book. IU hope that it becomes standard among physical crypto-currency.

PF - Pre-Funded (coin funded directly by the manufacturer): Casascius, Microsoul, Titan, TGBEX, Crypto Imperator, Alitin, Nasty Fans seat coins

BF - Buyer-Funded (buyer funds coin directly, before it is shipped): Some Lealana coins

UF - Un-Funded
(shipped with private key secured, but without loaded value): Ravenbit, an option for many coins

DIY - Do It Yourself (Hologram Sticker or other affixed by customer): Silver Wallets, SerpCoin DIY,

2FA - 2 FActor (loaded value is not redeemable with the Private Key alone): Some Casascius bars, bhCoins 2-factor coin

Round - (no intention/capability to be used to store crypto-currency; cont considered a 'coin'): Anarcoins, Bitcoinnerd, MJB Monetary Metals,

Ravenbit was one of the first to offer a full DIY kit (I checked some old posts and I think Serpcoin beat me out by 1 week - There may have been a couple of small one-off DIY coins before that) See my Satoshi coin released in 2013, as well as my Node Brass, Node Copper and Node Silver released in 2014.

Sneak Peek!

Looks great!! Cheesy

Will there be page numbers??

Also, all except the Satoshi coin from Ravenbit are called "Node xxx"   https://ravenbit.com/coins/   This link also has release dates, not just the year!!!

Thanks Smiley

Page numbers will be inserted before the final copy goes to print. Right now it's just 180 individual pages grouped together by mint, with Matthew having an additional ~20 pages of text that will compose the more academic portion. I have another 30-40 pages to put together, and revamp the Casascius section.
End result will likely be ~250 pages.

One difficulty is the naming. I have taken to naming the coins in a rather generic way, such as '1BTC Brass Coin, 2015', tied to the manufacturer. If multiple coins that would have the same name are made by the same manufacturer in the same year, I've used 'v1, v2' to differentiate. I have also used 'names' of the coins (nicknames or given by manufacturers) in quotation marks after the more 'formal' categorization name.
Perhaps this one will look like this:

Ravenbit
Antique Bronze Coin, 2014 'Node 2.4'

Elianite - Good job - book looks nice.

The coin in question is the "Node Bronze", Series 2.3

The date on the coin is 2014, but it was not released until 2015.

Very very nice minerjones! I'll give you $10 for the whole set. Grin
I'll offer one genuine raven.

Also was wondering why the Brass series wasn't listed fully in the list yet.

The node brass "A" is listed in the OP

p.s. - The "zero set" isn't really "a thing", unless I guess if you guys insist on it being "a thing"

20  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara Physical Bitcoins/HAVEN: Update on: November 17, 2015, 08:26:10 PM
I've never purchased a Kialara (or any physical bitcoin, aside from 1 aluminum Casascius), but anyone can tell from the pictures that Max produces a high quality product. I can begin to understand the effort and expectations that goes into the process of creating a product, although my product is considerably less complex and a lot less time consuming to assemble than a Kialara. Anyway, if there is one thing I've learned with managing expectations it's: add a week or two (or three) to your best estimate of delivery!  Cheesy
