1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: important question about an ASIC on: March 14, 2022, 07:37:46 AM
Hi, I have a silly question but a friend of mine just bought an ASIC from a private person and after the sale the guy told him that the ASIC was stolen or I don't know what (we don't know more, the seller doesn't answer anymore ^^), yet the ASIC works perfectly according to my friend, so my question is to know if with a stolen ASIC he risks something? Like since an ASIC must be connected in ethernet it can be traced or not at all?

Honestly depends on where the miners were stolen, and from whom. The chances of it getting tracked are greater than zero and instances like the one linked above have taken place.
He might get lucky and nothing happens, however, it is not a good idea to use stolen property for any use, let alone mining.
Even if he mines to a hardware wallet, the funds will be dirtied.

To get to earn let's say 5 $ a day how many gpus do i need? between 580 and 1060 which is better for mining?

4-5 1060 6GB will net you about $5 per day. 5 if you are paying electric at normal costs per kwH. The 580 is about 5MH/s faster than the 1060 6GB (both at standard clocks) so that would be a better bet than the 1060. I have one 1060 and one RX580 8GB.

Great, so much lessons to learn here like never jump into anything that you know too less about, GPU with 2GB and 3GB are struggling to keep up thanks to ETC mining even 4GB can't be use to mine ETH again.

The only thing I use on >3GB cards like the GTX 1050 OC, is Raptoreum mining now. They make the equivalent of an i5 processor consistently and increase profits on the CPUs that I have mining. You could use it for ETC too.

So to further the point, greater than 4GB cards are not useable for mainnet ethereum mining, but are far from useless.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: All-in-one desktop computer can do a thing? on: March 07, 2022, 09:25:36 AM
You could probably mine some CPU coin for a small profit, (if you make profit...), however, the integrated graphics that you have is not sufficient to do any kind of GPU mining. Good options are monero or smaller coins, e.g. raptoreum, etc. In all honesty, the consensus here on mining with laptops is that it's generally not a good idea and reduces the battery life and at high temps, can even reduce the chip's life.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum 2.0 on: March 05, 2022, 01:15:23 AM
You cannot find one since there are no exact dates when the move from POW to POS will take place. Roadmap says staking is projected this year but I suggest not to hang on to that since it's been delayed so many times already.

"Ethereum 2.0" has been scrapped and rebranded as "Consensus Layer" while the current Eth 1 will be called "Execution Layer".

Thanks for the reply, I see.

I might just be a little dumb, but is there an official announcement, and/or countdown until Ethereum cannot be mined? I can't seem to find anything definitive.

Firstly this is the wrong section. You want “Mining-Altcoins” secondly its a very bad idea to mine on a laptop. They aren’t designed for it at all. You will shorten the lifespan of it and degrade the battery quickly.
There's a (plugged in) charging option that allows the battery to be charged at 70-80% capacity to maximize the longevity of the battery, so I'm not worried about that. Chip stays around 63 celcius with the "coolerboost" function.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on a MSI GE76 Raider. on: March 04, 2022, 11:33:12 PM
I have a GE76 raider laptop with 3080 GPU and it mine at 52.9MH per second if yours have a 3080 you should be getting roughly the same 52MH from the laptop, this laptop is designed for heavy gaming meaning its capacity to do heavy work so heat isn't a issue but I only used it for mining in hours not 24hrs per day.

Thanks for the reply, I'm getting 53.60-61Mh/s with stock memory and core clocks at an efficiency of 355kH/s. (Power draw is 151W) So I'm just gonna be happy with it how it is. Thanks
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining on a MSI GE76 Raider. on: March 03, 2022, 07:10:40 AM
So from what I've seen, the GE76 Raider is one of the most powerful models of laptop there is out today.
I'm aware that the money could have gone somewhere more effective, but I'm wondering:
It comes with an integrated 3080 Laptop GPU and i9. First question: I've underclocked it to 149W and have a hashrate of 51,9MH/s on Ethereum, this is due to the fact that the cooler is not sufficient to cool it overclocked (without coolerboost), or even at a +0Mhz core and memory clock. Well, I lie, the coolerboost that gets her from 76C (only GPU mining) to 63/64C; however, this is not sustainable in the long term due to me being scared for the fan health. I've seen the GPU clocked to over 63Mh/s on youtube, as shit of a source that youtube is. Second question, when I mine on the cpu temperatures rise quickly, is it worth running the laptop on coolerboost 24/7, not, or after putting lube on the fans, just to mine on the cpu too?

The turmoil in Kazakhstan, however, seems transitory to most miners. According to Chinese blockchain journalist Colin Wu, miners are not too concerned. Some even have internet access.

Some Kazakhstan miners told us that the internet was temporarily restored on January 7th. In addition, the 4G network of Chinese phones is also intermittently effective. Most expect things to return to normal on Monday.
Moreover, the protests are mostly centered around urban areas, especially near the capital of Almaty. Miners, on the other hand, are mostly in remote areas. There are no reports that any crypto miners were victims of theft of vandalism during the turmoil.

It is unlikely that our mining machines will be evacuated to North America, they said.

The internet outage had a severe effect on Bitcoin’s network hash rate. Some reports suggest that a fifth of Bitcoin’s hash rate dropped due to the outage. This is not surprising, since Kazakhstan is the second-largest crypto mining country in the world, behind the United States.

The drop in the hash rate was likely one of the reasons for Tuesday’s Bitcoin crash. Currently, the largest crypto by market cap is trading below $42,000. Moreover, other major cryptos dropped as well, many posting double-digit losses.

Surprisingly accurate 'prediction' of sorts. Markets are the strongest they've been in a while, bar of course the slight drop today. Good read! Thanks!

Hello, I can help. I have a team and we are currently working with the 2nd largest power supplier in Russia, just launched 5MW facility and building more. The plan is to launch 50MW this year and 2GW within the next 5 years. We can help with building construction, electricity, networking parts.
P.S.
We have a representative in the United States, who can travel to your location and manage work on site.
I just sent you a DM.

Are you guys still mining? I would assume so but just wondering.

Hi Guys,

Long time miner of the testnets here....
Mined literally millions of test coins with zero issues, BUT mainnet mining seems very weird.

My 1800x is only getting 20h/s according to suprnova, which means i get about 200 coins per day !

What hashrates are you all getting and with what kind of hardware please?

This is my output

you are only using 8 threads, try with -t 16.

on my 3600 @4.2 i'm getting around 350h/s on 12 threads

Can you please tell me which miner you are using, i can't get close to half your speeds

If you are benchmarking right when you get an unfortunate mix, variance can be up to 5 x from the low to the high.
whats with the variance? also looks like he's using aes which is not correct program to mine on ryzen

Hard fork successful

Ubiq successfully hard forked last week and as a recap, we activated 3 Ethereum hard forks (Byzantium, Constantinople & St. Petersburg) in one shot as well as amended a fix for uncle reward calculations. All these changes were consensus level (hence the reason for a hard fork) upgrades. No issues arose and the hard fork was smooth so thank you also to the mining pools and community for being prepared and supportive. We had some great chats in Discord Voice channels leading up to the hard fork.

The next major hard fork development will implement the Ethereum Istanbul EIP’s (this was hard forked in Ethereum block 9069000 on December 8, 2019) and is anticipated to be completed mid-2020.

Prior to activating the Instanbul EIP's we will be upgrading the Gubiq codebase to be in line with the latest Geth 1.9 branch. Currently Gubiq 3.0.1 runs on the Geth 1.8 branch.

Dusk

@xocel has started working on Dusk which will be a new node and wallet UI to replace Fusion. This is all brand new code but will tie in well with home Raspberry Pi nodes. Below is a screen shot.

Tornado Cash

The latest Ubiq hard fork has allowed us to start experimenting and implementing some projects on our network. One of them is Tornado Cash which enables a Zero Knowledge privacy solution for Ubiq. When used properly and with multiple user participation, it allows for a mixed anonymity set and unlink-ability similar to Zcash shielded transactions.

I will look to make some modifications to the upstream project in our own repository to tailor it for Ubiq. This will probably start out as CLI usage before having an integrated web interface.

Thank you and look forward to more live contracts and utility coming to Ubiq in 2020!

I suggest getting a 600W PSU at least, it's really cheap and will support 2x 1070s if you buy one with enough 8pin connectors to support the GPUs. Also efficiently refers to how much money is made per $ kw/h. You can check by finding a calculator for the coin you intend to mine, and entering your system info / hashrate.
15  Other / Meta / Re: Question about member activity on: September 28, 2017, 02:01:03 PM
Am I understanding correctly when it states I can only gain 14 activity points every 2 weeks?

additional knowledge  here's how it works first you need 14 days to update your rank to jr. member, then in that 14 days you need to have 30 activities every 14 days they will update your rank it depends how many activities you have.

And for this to become Jr. Member you need to have 30 activities
Member:          60 activity
Full Member:    120 activity
Sr. Member:      240 activity
Hero:               480 activity
Legendary:       I thing above 700 and up.

Hope you get some ideas here...

Legendary is awarded randomly between 775 and 1305, there is a post that both answers this question and outlines the limits of activity:

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Opinion on Mining Rig I Am Looking to Buy on: September 23, 2017, 06:54:42 PM
Thanks Ray-

I guess I can just set it to mine ZCash instead then?  And then switch the ZCash difficulty get too high?

I'm not trying to make a fortune here, I just want to get a rig so that I can learn to mine and getting a small rig seems like a good way to learn.  I just don't want to spend over $1k and have the GPUs die in a few weeks because of the heat.

Whichever gives you the best investment, keep in mind, cryptocurrency prices are liable to change in price too, mining a newer coin can also rocket you into a good investment just as well as mining Ethereum or ZCash could. If heat inside the case gets bad just open the side and point a usb fan at it (works for my 560s just fine) Heat and card death should really not be a problem, it's earning your money back that will kick you in the end.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: (XMR) Monero mining with 4x RX 560 4GB - Profitable? on: September 23, 2017, 02:40:58 PM
So I'm thinking of cashing in some of my BTC, to the tune of $900 and buying 4x RX 560 4GB cards to mine Monero, or even possibly Ethereum (or ethereum classic depending on whichever is a better investment...) Each card should get a base hash rate of 350h/s.
Mining calc tells me that it's $80, with current difficulty and price, a month, on the cards alone (mining Monero).
So is it a good idea to buy them and try my luck with gpu mining or keep the bitcoin and hope the price keeps going up?

You forget about one very important information when you asked your question ...
How much are you paying for electricity (with all the taxes) ? this is a mayor factor to calculate your mining income.

with current difficulty , monero/fiat exchange rate with 4 cards you can get around 80$/months minus electricity
if you have to pay 9-10 cents/kwh (or 0.09-0.1USD/kwh) you not going to make any extra income with current difficulty and monero/fiat exchange rate as of today 09/23/2017 .. what you mining you going to spend on your power bill Sad

use a very simple mining calculator , put there your electricity rate and find out ...
Coinwarz Monero Mining Calculator

I'm paying $0.06/kwh for my electricity, which works, but I'm wondering if I will get ROI back, and if I should even buy the miners.
Should I mine for the 4 months and hope that difficulty doesn't hike or just keep the money in BTC?

It looks great but you have to question whether you will make back that asking price with the ethereum you mine. Don't get me wrong, that rig is a monster and will most definitely make you a couple dollars but will you get back your money before the difficulty hikes and mining becomes less profitable?
I'd suggest looking into Monero or other GPU mined coins instead of just jumping straight into ethereum. e.g. ETC which *might* be a better investment than the small amount of ether that you will be able to mine.
At the current difficulty, you'll only be earning ~0.019 ether per day with 90mh/s, which is about $5.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Will buying AMD RX card(s) provide a ROI ... on: September 23, 2017, 07:46:26 AM
Not in a long time, on normal ethereum at least, considering the least expensive 4GB RX card is the 560, which is $150 dollars, it would take almost 5 months to regain your money.
Maybe you'd be better suited with Monero or another newer coin with potential, maybe ETC? Only big rigs with cheap electricity can generate a fair amount of income nowadays.
