ANY HOPES OF it going back to being a 1$ and standard for lightweight ethereum trades

Market is what it is at the moment, there is lots of development still continuing and with Eth going to POS it could lead to more exposure.   I have personally noticed an uptick in the people joining, asking questions and whatnot in the Discord chat.  Feel free to join and read up on what is happening or look into the quarterly and monthly reports on Medium.   One would venture a guess that this is a positive sign.  The Ubiq development team won't go into the price of the coin which is a position held from the beginning.  Again please feel free to join the Discord group for faster replies to your questions, this forum has issues with trolling and misinformation and is rarely visited.

Hard fork successful

Ubiq successfully hard forked last week and as a recap, we activated 3 Ethereum hard forks (Byzantium, Constantinople & St. Petersburg) in one shot as well as amended a fix for uncle reward calculations. All these changes were consensus level (hence the reason for a hard fork) upgrades. No issues arose and the hard fork was smooth so thank you also to the mining pools and community for being prepared and supportive. We had some great chats in Discord Voice channels leading up to the hard fork.

The next major hard fork development will implement the Ethereum Istanbul EIP’s (this was hard forked in Ethereum block 9069000 on December 8, 2019) and is anticipated to be completed mid-2020.

Prior to activating the Instanbul EIP's we will be upgrading the Gubiq codebase to be in line with the latest Geth 1.9 branch. Currently Gubiq 3.0.1 runs on the Geth 1.8 branch.

Dusk

@xocel has started working on Dusk which will be a new node and wallet UI to replace Fusion. This is all brand new code but will tie in well with home Raspberry Pi nodes. Below is a screen shot.

Tornado Cash

The latest Ubiq hard fork has allowed us to start experimenting and implementing some projects on our network. One of them is Tornado Cash which enables a Zero Knowledge privacy solution for Ubiq. When used properly and with multiple user participation, it allows for a mixed anonymity set and unlink-ability similar to Zcash shielded transactions.

I will look to make some modifications to the upstream project in our own repository to tailor it for Ubiq. This will probably start out as CLI usage before having an integrated web interface.

Thank you and look forward to more live contracts and utility coming to Ubiq in 2020!

I dont see how ETH shifting to POS could impact UBIQ. What is that u dont tell people that u know is of titanic-sized relevance? Everyone is struggling for air, u can hear people burping behind ur back while others may find joy in snorting out like a vacuum cleaner machine. The problem is lack of clarity which is a bad start and is not the way to beguile the rich.

Miners can switch to to mining UBQ when PoS begins for ETH.  But they have to know about UBIQ first, and be able to profit from mining it.  For most it will be more profitable to sell their GPUs then to keep playing cryptocurrency miner but some may choose to keep playing with UBQ.  At least it is not bloatware like ETH.

It depends on the miner if they will see UBQ as a profitable one to mine.
Not really sell their GPUs but maybe just let it sit and take a break while looking for a better and profitable coin to mine.
A miner should really be smart on selecting which coin to mine, as we don't have luxury to waste our resources in these current times.
