1  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS L3+ x 10 and APW PSUs x10 on: June 17, 2018, 04:53:39 PM
I have 10 L3's hosted at a climate controlled datacenter (US).  Current prices dont make that cost effective.  if you've got a cheap power source, these could be a cheap and reliable addition to your farm.  I would like to sell all 10 to a single buyer.

Each L3 has a bitmain PSU with it, none of them are doubled-up.

I will accept escrow at the buyers expense.  I would prefer ETH or BTC for payment.

$4300 includes shipping in the lower 48 USA, sorry no international.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help with cooling solution mining room on: June 08, 2018, 10:37:06 PM
Hello guys,

I am searching for help regarding cooling for my mining room.
I have tried to reach out too the local stores in Norway, but people dont have the experience with this.

I have uploaded a photo that illustrates the room and also what kind of gear i have.
If anyone of you can help me out, it would be great.

What do you guys think is the best way too cool the room down?
The room is 3x9m.

Without doing the exact math, your probably around 5-6000 CFM of air you need to displace.  The arrangement will depend on what you can do with those exterior walls but the general rules still apply, bring in a ton of clean air (filter the intake) force it to move through the miners to reach the exit, and discharge at least the same amount of air at your exits.

Without seeing the details of your racks, think your going to need several large holes for intake on one exterior wall and several more on the other exterior wall.  Ideally you block the room off with the miner racks to force the air to only flow one direction.

3  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 30 Mega-Watt Colocation Facility in St. Louis, MO USA on: March 19, 2018, 02:12:06 AM
I am interested, but what information can you provide to improve your trustworthiness?   I couldnt find any news articles or other information related to the business other than the website itself and a linkedin profile.   Brand new company with Canadian domain info and a one person LLC in St Louis that is also reasonably new.

Thanks you, sorry for being a skeptic but there are more rip-offs out there than legit offerings!

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash BTC payouts declining past couple days? on: January 31, 2018, 05:41:59 AM
For those interested, I have a handful of antminers pointed to NH.   Here are my daily payouts in BTC (not fiat!)

1/30 .00619026
1/29 .00603829
1/28 .00519994 (had them off for a few hours)
1/27 .00627538
1/26 .00582347
1/25 .00673093
1/24 .00718845
1/23 .00726570
1/22 .00717737

So in a week's time, the profitability has dropped ABOUT .001 BTC a day.    Based on all the hype and extra people starting to mine and the drop in BTC price in that same time period, I'd say thats not an unreasonable change.   Not happy about it, but we couldn't expect an L3 to continue to make $30 a day forever.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Linking 2 psu's together on: December 29, 2017, 12:58:05 AM
Use one PS to run the computer and a card, use the other PS to run the second card.

Don't get cute and try to splice them together or anything like that.

Take a look in the ALTCOIN mining section as there will be a lot more info on there.  Google and Youtube are your friend too.

This sub is reserved for BTC mining only, no GPU rigs.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How do you get Internet to your mining rigs? on: December 26, 2017, 03:45:06 AM
Classic wisdom is hardwire FTW.   That being said its not always practical.

I have 5 antminers that Im running off of 2 WIFI routers in bridge mode (repeater) which seems to work just fine.  Just make sure your not placing anything in a dead spot with questionable wifi.

If only costs you $30 to try it.   If you start seeing rejected packets or high latency, reconsider your location or equipment.

7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Insurance on: December 26, 2017, 03:38:24 AM
Home owners insurance will have limits on coverage that are designed around the needs of an average home owner.  i.e. they'll assume you might have 15k in electronics, 5k in jewelry, 25k in furniture etc.  As soon as you do something crazy like buying 100k in mining equipment you will need extra coverage purchased specifically to raise your limits to cover that asset class.

The type of peril (fire, storm, etc) has very little to do with this its just about the amount of coverage that you actually purchased.

Also keep in mind that home owners does NOT cover flooding even if that flood was caused by a storm.  If you live somewhere where you may get heavy storms, make sure to buy separate flood insurance to go with your homeowners.

Also a good idea that your property is wired properly, if your setup is clean / pretty even giving a picture to your agent wouldn't hurt.  It establishes that they knew what they were covering when they wrote the policy.
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NiceHash The Mining Service Got Hacked And Lost 4,450 Bitcoins Worth 60 Million on: December 07, 2017, 01:26:05 AM
I guess the only good news is Im only out 5 days worth of mining revenue?  The climb in bitcoin certainly offsets that but, man, thats a kick in the teeth.

9  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain are lying and you cant trust them on: November 23, 2017, 06:16:53 AM
They messed somethign up with the most recent batch of power supplies.   I got a $50 coupon for the ones I purchased that aren't coming with the extra headers to run two L3+'s and have yet to receive the replacement PS's that were due with my last two miners.

Bought one off of Amazon at a $100 premium just to get my latest S9 in operation...

10  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Taxes Mining Bitcoins on: October 28, 2017, 01:08:11 AM
I am keeping the transaction emails from coinbase when mining deposits hit my account and using that as the cost basis for each mining payment.    Not perfect but it will work.

My understanding is that since the process is a bit immature, the IRS is using some discretion with how people calculate their cost basis / fair market value, but they'll expect you to be consistent.  I.e. if you cant cherry pick exchange rates from different exchanges or times to help you setup a better cost basis. My advice would be to start a very thorough spreadsheet to track your income if you plan on making more than a grand per year.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain L3+ September batch delivery delayed on: October 06, 2017, 05:51:51 AM
Ordered one in July, received it today.  (September 30th ship date).   Yes, they are shipping.

If your budget is really only a grand, that limits your choices.
...
Budget is not problem. It's just minimum budget. I can invest in mining upto 3-5k USD.  I also have 2 PC of 2 GB RAM and I am going to buy new one for mining purpose only.
Asic miner works only for BTC ? not in other coins?
Which miner will be best for DASH?
trading I hate. I don't have time for trading.

OK so build a PC with a low power CPU, 4GB ram, a very small hard drive and a very large gold rated power supply.   Install Linux or Windows based on what you can manage easiest.   Install a couple of high end video cards and go for it.  I would suggest installing the legacy version of NiceHash to get started  mining some coins.  It will balance between different coins depending on what is earning the best at the moment.   Once you get more experience you can try to mine directly to the coins of your choice.

If you want to invest a bit more money, buy riser cards for that same PC and add 3-4 more video cards.  I'd suggest sticking to the same brand of GPUs (Either NVIDIA or AMD) to avoid issues.   If you really want to mine a large variety of coins, the Nvidias might be a better option. 1070's were mentioned which work very well but try not to pay too much for them as they cost more than normal at the moment.

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone waiting for delivery of an Antminer L3+ September batch? on: October 03, 2017, 01:30:26 AM
I have one coming in the same batch.  I haven't received a peep from Bitmain yet.   I figured it was a single unit, and late in the batch so it won't ship until the 30th IF they're running on time.

Gotta be patient if youre a little guy.

Follow-up; I received FedEx tracking info on 10/1 (dated 9/30 in email) that SAYS my miner will be here on the 4th.  That seems a bti optomistic from China, but who knows.   At least I got the shipping invoice and tracking info so thats progress!

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Browser mining? (Nimiq, etc) on: October 01, 2017, 05:05:14 PM
The Pirate Bay — .......has been caught running a cryptocurrency miner on some pages.

"Has been caught" might be strong.  They announced they were doing that as a way to maintain income and be able to eliminate all of the porn sites that are normally on the page.    If you use TPB, Id rather loan them a few cpu cycles for 10 minutes while on the site than have to sift through all the click-bait and porn ads.

15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ANTMINER D3 - Hacking, Reprogramming , Disassembly , Debugging, OS change on: September 30, 2017, 04:22:58 AM
Hi
As there is a lot off unknown future about the late batches of Antminer D3 , I would like to start a topic where we can share ideas about
alternative use of this hardware - different than X11 mining.

The interested aspects are:
- Can we install different OS on the machine ?
- Can D3 be reprogrammed to any different algo or X11 is the only one ?
- How the power of the machine can be used if not for mining ?
- Any interested ideas about alternative use of this equipment ?
- Any Links to sources with interested detailed information's , tech documentations , operating systems, circuit diagrams ?

I think this topic may become very good source of information's about Antminer D3

D@NTER

ASIC = "Application Specific" X11 is in its DNA.   Not sure you're going to have much luck teaching a hammer how to be a screwdriver, but if you do figure something out I'll be all ears.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Please answer the question for mining hardware related on: September 25, 2017, 01:50:09 AM
If your budget is really only a grand, that limits your choices.

For building a GPU based rig, normally you'd  need to spend about $400 - $500 on the PC hardware (MB, HD, Ram, Power Supply, CPU) before buying the video cards (up to 6 of them on an average system).  each card is going to be about $250 - $700 depending on what you go with.

For a grand theres a couple choices;   buy a used gaming pc from a couple years back if you can find one for a couple hundred bucks and just add GPUs to it.  might start with 2 decent ones, then make some money off of them to build a better / more complete rig later.

The other option is to buy an older generation ASIC miner like the S7 which you might be able to get for 6 - 800 and would be plug-and-play but will only work on BTC.

If you want to actually make money, it might be better to invest the 1k into trading currencies for a few months and see if youre able to make enough to build a more complete solution.   That will also let you learn the different currencies, and learn the process for transacting with the various coins and wallets.

As you can see I am newbie ( my account too).
I am very interested to mine altcoins like eth but don't have any knowledge.

Here are my questions:-
My budget is  $1k , which hardware I should buy. ( No problem of electricity)

If you're really that green, Id suggest starting with 2 GPUs on a motherboard with two PCIE16 slots.   Once you get some experience you can decide if you want to add riser cards (1x -> 16x risers to allow you to put in more GPUs).   For cards, take your pick, the type of card you buy will influence what coins are most profitable for you and how much you will make.   Get a gold rated power supply of at least 750 watts if you want some room to add more cards.   Don't skimp on a PS as they will contribute to your power usage.

Take a look at the profitability calculator on NiceHash.com for an idea of what GPUs are profitable at the moment.    Unfortunately almost all of them are overpriced right now because of the current mining craze.  Be careful to not overpay for GPUs as it will make it much harder to ROI.

Honestly, start doing some serious reading and watching youtube.   If you can't build and support a home built PC then this is not the hobby for you.

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is $120 a day possible with the Bitmain Antminer D3 !? on: September 21, 2017, 03:01:32 AM
Why doesn't Bitmain put 100% of the D3's they produce to work mining as soon as they come off the line vs. selling them to the public?

Is it because all their mining warehouses are at capacity and they simply can't find/build additional locations to mine with them to keep up with the rate at which they produce them?

I have read the stories about Bitmain "testing" them for weeks/month before selling to the public.  But if they are still producing $100/day at that point, why not just keep mining with them?  Perhaps the Chinese government has some sort of export mandate forcing to sell at least a certain percentage of them?

Ive always assumed it was because they didnt want to risk impacting the value of the currency.   If it looked like Bitmain, or the Chinese in general were getting too close to the magic 51% number it would spook normal traders and the currency they are mining would crash.   Since they trade and sell using those same currencies its in their best interest to keep those currencies reasonably stable.

I could be all wrong, just my guess.    Besides they're making a killing on just the hardware.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any multicoin miner?? on: September 17, 2017, 04:09:24 PM
+1 for legacy Nice Hash.    I have a similar rig and with the legacy install it can not only swap between algo's but it also supports the newer miners that can mine two coins at once for even better profitability.
