Delivery time is 50% of the warranty period.

Current payback period is 50% longer than the warranty.

You risk your money on the performance, the future returns and the likelihood it will live long enough to break even.
2  Economy / Exchanges / Re: CEX.IO Withdrawal times - any experience? on: February 22, 2018, 11:47:42 PM
I cannot deposit or withdraw using visa.

The withdraw option doesn't show up at all.

I tried a deposit but it was rejected.

I entered a support case but they cancelled it and said to wait 10 days.

Harumph.

Can you please clarify with your bank whether the payment is not rejected by them.

This has nothing to do with my bank.

The previously verified VISA card I have on your site no longer shows up as an option to make withdrawals.  So I cannot even initiate a withdrawal from CEX.

And your system cancelled my support requests and said to wait 30 days.

Wait 30 days to report your site doesn't work?

What fucking sense does that make.

Kindly tell us your user ID.

Kindly reply to the pm I sent a week ago.

Yes, many are having this problem.

I think it's only because they are insolvent.

I sent them an email asking if they allow transfers to/from Bitcoin exchanges.

I don't see why they would be selective of any particular IABN account, but this will determine if I continue with the verification.

7  Other / Serious discussion / Could the current downward fluctuation lead to a liquidity crisis? on: February 05, 2018, 02:51:31 AM

I am curious if the recent downward trend in crypto currency values could lead to a liquidity crisis at one of the exchanges.

Are there any ways to detect or predict such a thing?

What have minerwares had to say to the people who recieved dirty/used miners that should have been new? I am expecting a NEW miner in the next week (dispatched to the UK), but I will be pissed if it isn’t in new condition. Having bought from the USA and via PayPal there is some recourse that can happen. I just hope they are sorting out the issues for the people who have already recieved miners

I'm wondering if this packaging/potentially dirty miners has something to do with why my package has had a "customs delay" since Thursday. I have fedex looking into it for more info, but I  will just wait and see.

Make sure you have a can of RAID handy when the FedEx guy shows up, we don`t want any infestation here in Manitoba! Roll Eyes

As long as money did not change hands, they're not obligated to do anything. If they took your money, and then didn't deliver product, then it would be a crime and you can take it to court and denounce their name forever. But you haven't paid them, so yea, you haven't bought anything yet, you just pressed some buttons on a computer.

You're simply wrong.  They made an offer to sell and we agreed to purchase.  A contract was entered into and breeched by the seller.  Court could be an option, but it wouldn't be worth the cost.  I suggest you go to eBay or Amazon and click BUY without paying a few hundred times, see if your account stays active.

Having said that, maybe they did everyone a favor.  Rewards are less than half of what they were on Aug 31, and all those pallet purchasers will drive them down further.  It's now possible a GPU investment may offer better returns. Or shorting Bitcoin.

In fact purchasing AMD or NVidia shares a year ago was likely more profitable that purchasing AMD or NVidia GPU's.

In some industries weeks or months of lead time on factory direct purchases is standard.  canaan clearly has/had problems with their logistics, though I don't recall any promises about fulfillment timeframes prior to ordering.

Yes, there was am implied fulfillment timeframe, it was supposed to be sooner than "Never, go elsewhere" Smiley
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 22, 2017, 03:55:52 AM
So just an opinion here, I definitely agree they failed in rolling communication out to the home miner, at almost every turn. Honestly they shouldn't have even held a sale on August 31, but they must have thought they could get things done as they did in the past
Now quality of the order we have heard about aside, anyone who hasn't been able to order from minerwarez, didn't put in the leg work. We all saw the main site direct us there, the minerwarez site did give the option to receive an email update when it went live, and I received it. I had an order in on the 31st but no money changed hands and I felt fine ordering from the distributor and cancelling my Canaan order, and if you wanted a unit you could have done the same.

Bullshit.  We were expecting to be dealt with in order AND the Canaan rep said he wasn't certain if switching would provide delivery faster or slower.  That's exactly what he said in an email.

Sure you roll the dice and order from both, as I call that's pretty much what the Canaan rep said was the cause of the problem, duplicate orders.

I did post in this forum and sent an email asking for service in FIFO order, from either source, and got nowhere.

So at the same time I put in the leg work and got screwed by not only the Mfr. but also people like you.

No hard feelings, hopefully a poisonous bug doesn't crawl out of your miner.
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 21, 2017, 11:16:35 PM

Got my "NEW" 741 miners from minerwarez.

Pretty freaking pissed, looks like they ran it in a barn for two years.  How the hell do you get bugs in it.

It want's to be an AntMiner !!!
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 21, 2017, 11:09:18 PM

So the official word is that Canaan won't be fulfilling orders smaller than 60 units.  If your order was less than 60 units, look elsewhere.

Steve said he would try and prioritize his backorders with the distributor, but nothing happened from the email I sent several days ago with my Canaan order number. (Neither source has stock so this is un-surprising.)

It really is hard to purchase from them.

The Aug 31 order didn't work,
The bulk buy didn't work.
Getting from the distributor hasn't worked.

If I was a masochist, I would sign up for the new subscription program, then I could be disappointed on a regular basis Smiley

13  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 20, 2017, 01:15:05 PM
Ordered five miners with Canaan on Aug 31st.  Exchanged emails with steve and lily about timing.  They were very helpful.  On Aug 15th lily suggested the ditributor would be faster.  I placed an order and emailed miner warez that day.  On the 18th a label was generated.  It shipped on the 19th as five boxes.  FedEx says arrival will be on the 22nd.  My price was same as canaans, shipping reasonable.  I'm in central US and my order number is between 1000 - 1025.

I'm happy with how it has worked out so far.

What was your Canaan order number?
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 18, 2017, 11:45:12 PM
Thanks Steve;

Is it safe to assume a Small Aug. 31 order remaining with Casnaan.com would be fulfilled on a fifo basis?
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 17, 2017, 08:01:44 PM
Mining difficulty will go up by 22%. What is you plan to do with 741?  Undecided 741 seems outdated for me, even thought I am sitting on free socket.

You want to share where you get your magic number from?

And anyone sitting on ACTUAL free electricity and not mining is an absolute idiot. If you have free energy, then what is your reason for not using a 741? You're not making back compete profit fast enough...?

Bitcoin difficulty chart https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

so what's 20 %

it is nothing.

suppose it follows with

which actually  is from

May 12  to Nov 17  which  is 6 months  just under 2%  a jump

lets make the diff  1844  vs 922  and coins at 4000  see what we get.

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

Date______________Difficulty___Revenue_____   Profit

9-17 – 9-17 (1 day)...1844 G.......1.38..............1.367

with a pool charging 1%   and diff 1844g  2x current diff    the gear still makes 1.36 a day

 I used

1844g  for diff
10 cents  a kwatt

I think you took too small a sample for your increment, not least because it contained the lowest quarterly increment in the last two years(as far back as that web site shows).  The average increment from the entire 2-year data set, is 5.46% per increment.

Using that average increment produces the following results...note that the calculator only goes about 280 days forward.

5.46% increment @ $3700 BTC, Avalon 741 ($875 inc. PS, 1150 watts) goes negative profit in 248 days, Net$(-434)
5.46% increment @ $4000 BTC, Avalon 741 ($875 inc. PS, 1150 watts) goes negative profit in 262 days, Net$(-341)
5.46% increment @ $5100 BTC, Avalon 741 ($875 inc. PS, 1150 watts) achieves ROI in 258 days, 280days Net$14
5.46% increment @ $6000 BTC, Avalon 741 ($875 inc. PS, 1150 watts) achieves ROI in 147 days, 280days Net$308

If the difficulty trend continues (which is possible due to overshoot in mining equipment purchases) then the BTC price will need to rise above $5000 for the 741 to be a winner.

More likely, the difficulty will stagnate as mining rewards dwindle, and rewards hover at a point that favors low or no-cost electricity.

But quick ROI is no longer to be expected.

16  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Canaan Avalon A7 Group Buy - Hosting at CryptoBoreas (Canada) on: September 08, 2017, 04:12:03 PM
I don't see how this could be a reseller conflict issue. None of us have ordered from resellers, we ordered direct from Canaan.  And likely none of us would order from resellers.  Who exactly are these resellers, I never saw any on the Canaan web site?

17  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Canaan Avalon A7 Group Buy - Hosting at CryptoBoreas (Canada) on: September 08, 2017, 02:55:17 AM

In the interest of making progress on the Avalon 741 Group Buy I would like to make a suggestion. Instead of asking Canaan to change their payment policy, can the Group change it's payment currency to match Canaan's policy?

This could be done using a payment service that accepts Bitcoin to make international wire transfers in USD.  There is a company called Bitwala that provides this type of service.  They appear to hold an exchange rate for a short period of time which could reduce our risk/cost.

https://www.bitwala.com/btc-to-usd/

The company is active on this forum (user name bitwala)

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=944782.0

I think at the least we should ask for a rate quote, what do you think?

(I have no experience or association with Bitwala)
18  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon 741 buy is closed no more orders! on: September 06, 2017, 01:32:21 AM
Am I collecting directly for PSUs? If I collect directly for re-shipping US orders that can all be done at once.

Good idea!

Phil;

Do you think the unconfirmed quantity presents a problem if they remain unconfirmed?  As the price and shipping cost could vary as a result.

Would a backup plan be wise, like those on the list could add 1 unit by paying $758 extra?

Or am I over/under thinking it?

20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: how do you wire a 220v line for multiple miners in the US? on: September 05, 2017, 01:11:10 PM

You have to have the breaker anyway, no matter how you set the circuit up.
 Same on the power cords.

When I rewired the heaters in my current location, it cost me less than $50 ALL UP to set up a pair of 20 amp 220 circuits with 3 outlets EACH (though 20/20 hindsight I'm thinking I should have put 4 or 5 on each - I might end up changing that eventually.)
I have NEVER seen a PDU that was $25 or less unless it was broken.

I was assuming you use 1 set of breaker/wire for each outlet as opposed to multiple outlets on 1 breaker.
