1  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Lightning Labs Lightning Network wallet on: June 26, 2019, 08:02:43 PM
My friend and I downloaded the iOS app but are unable to send any funds to each other using the same app.

The app provides a cryptic error message with no explanation or troubleshooting suggested.

I found that there is activity on this front:

https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/pull/2760

I don't know when it will make it to the next Electrum release however.

Thanks for this post!  I struggled with this and then stumbled upon your post, which explains everything.  I am using Electrum 2.9.2 for Mac OS X.

Any ideas when Electrum will support a Trezor SegWit wallet?
5  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: armory refuses to use nonstandard dir on: June 24, 2016, 02:20:44 PM
This thread helped me solved a problem with moving the huge Bitcoin Core and Armory databases (150 GB total !!!) off my laptop and onto an external drive.

I am using Windows UNC paths to refer to both locations.

For Bitcoin Core, I modified the shortcut to become:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir=\\myserver.mycompany.com\DriveE\Bitcoin

For Armory QT, I modified the shortcut to become:

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Armory\ArmoryQt.exe" --satoshi-datadir="\\myserver.mycompany.com\DriveE\Bitcoin" --datadir="\\myserver.mycompany.com\DriveE\Armory"

Note that the Armory shortcut needed to have double quotes for some reason.

This now works perfectly and I was able to delete the original Bitcoin and Armory folders.

I was successful at moving 2 BTC off the site just now.  When I tried a second time, I got the cold wallet maintenance error.  Perhaps it is just 2 BTC (or some number near that) in a day?

I just tried again and I was able to move another 1 BTC off.  CampBX does seem to be charging a fee of 0.0001 at the source.

I just signed up and submitted all the verification documents.  Unfortunately, you offer only digital <> digital trading in Texas.

Any ideas when you will offer digital <> USD trading in Texas?  The second-largest Gross State Product in the US  Smiley  Even a ballpark roadmap will be better than nothing, e.g. next month, next year, we have no idea...
9  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory scanning the whole blockchain every time i start the program on: September 21, 2013, 03:53:20 PM
As an additional data point:

I had to install the newest version 0.88.1 on my Windows system since the older version ran out of RAM and crashed.

Current system:
MacBook Pro booted into Windows 7
16 GB of RAM
Armory consumes 3.8 GB of RAM!

At this point, Armory is already approaching the point at which it will exceed the memory usage of most consumer PCs, which are still being sold in the 4GB or less range.

I would advise that the memory usage must the first priority in development, or else nothing else will matter.

depends who looks into the coinbase records.  coinbase will know who's account and what block the withdrawal address is in.  When you spend your money from that address it will be inferred as you.

That's what I thought.  Hence, I likely to use a mixer service as a further step, right?

Coinbase -> blockchain.info wallet -> blockchain mixer service -> anonymous wallet

Then to spend the coins in the anonymous wallet, I need to use Tor or some kind of anonymous VPN service so that the IP address of the spending transaction is not traceable to me, right?

13  Other / Beginners & Help / New user: How to send Bitcoins to a wallet with anonymous addresses on: April 01, 2013, 10:53:01 PM
Hi all,

I am a newbie and have some basic Bitcoin questions.

I have purchased Bitcoins using Coinbase (ACH transfer from my bank account) and the bitcoins are now sitting in my Coinbase account.  As I understand Coinbase, the bitcoins don't really belong to me at this point.  They are kept in trust for me by Coinbase, much like cash in a bank.

I want to have both of the following:
  • A personal wallet under my control which I don't care if it can be publicly traced to me.
  • A personal wallet under my control which I want to remain anonymous for any number of perfectly good reasons.  I don't engage in illegal conduct and don't have any fear of the police coming for me, but want this wallet to not be traceable to me for any reason.

I appreciate your feedback on how to get there from where I am right now with Coinbase.  These are my preliminary thoughts for the anonymous wallet:

  • Get the coins out of Coinbase by sending them to an online wallet with blockchain.info or another web based wallet.  The coins are now under my control but still potentially traceable to me at this point since they came from Coinbase who knows my real identity.
  • Download Armory and set up an offline wallet.  The addresses in this wallet will be anonymous so far.
  • Use blockchain.info's Send Anonymously feature to send the coins to my Armory offline wallet.  The coins should now be under my anonymous control but not traceable to me any more.
  • If I want to spend the coins from the Anonymous wallet, I need to cloak my IP address by using Tor or an anonymous VPN at the moment of sending the coins to another address.

I appreciate your constructive critique of the above, or suggestions for alternatives.
