1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $1,200 stimulus check in 2020 = $12,392 in 2024 on: May 27, 2024, 10:47:44 PM
Darn! That's an interesting fact. Unfortunately, there's no statistics to show how many of the stimulus folks bought Bitcoin with their stimulus check. It would be an interesting fact to know and even more interesting fact would be how many of them are still holding? Thar FTX collapse would've shaken off plenty of plebs. My key takeaway from this thread is that Buying Bitcoin during the dips have proven to be a solid ROI opportunity. It would be interesting to see how much higher bitcoin can go as new bitconers buying at this prices hope to sell higher.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Warning] Bitcoin layers are not here to stay. on: May 27, 2024, 06:14:15 AM
If Bitcoin layers work similarly to those Ethereum layers, then I'd say they're very much important and are here to stay because once they achieve their full purpose, they might be able to help bitcoin scale far more than LN would ever have. Op is saying Bitcoin is good as it is but left out a crucial part about Bitcoin scalability and dirt cheap tx costs are absolutely needed for Bitcoin to get mass adoption.
Youre right mate. I dunno why theres a lot of haters for those devs that trying out to improve bitcoin ecosystem. Well one thing I wanted to have on bitcoin is scalability, maybe these new layers might help in formulatung a better stack for bitcoin or could get worsr who knows its a continuous thesis when it comes to this that need time before we can see beneficial to btc.

There are no results we can point to yet but I want to believe that it is a worthy experiment especially since layers on ethereum have done a great job of pushing the loads from ethereum Mainnet to those "layers". For Bitcoin, I expect those layers to come very handy in times where demand to fast transaction times is on the high side. You can just use a cheap layer until bitcoin mempool has been cleared up. This is still theoretical though.

Thanks for the heads up. I never hear of this one before. Its scary how plenty things dey out to harm us even as the failing economy and inflation don make life hard. I go share with my friends and family because death by organ harvesting na nonsense way to go because your body no go get befitting burial e deserve. Now I don confirm wetin tems talk when she say crazy things are happening. Crazy things dey happen since but it's getting crazier.
4  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Adopting Bitcoin as a global payment method. on: May 26, 2024, 10:50:15 PM
1. There is no clear framework to protect users against fraud right now because transactions on the blockchain are irreversible. At best, we'd just need them educated about the possibility of double spend attacks that are common in a merchant-customer situation.

2. The world dey currently evolve and soon, we fit see banks adopt Bitcoin instead of to try and integrate and adopt their own CBDCs. Why reinvent the wheels when bitcoin already dey? E fit affect the unemployment rate that much but we'll have to see.

Another thing I never see anybody mention yet be say to make transactions with bank cards cost < N100 per transaction but each Bitcoin transaction cost around $1 on average. Imo, this number need to dey lower because no be everybody go fit afford am per transaction.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After the Ethereum ETF(s), which altcoin will be next? on: May 26, 2024, 10:15:06 PM
I will say Litecoin and... I hate to say this, but I think XRP has a potential.

Litecoin always being treated like second best coin after Bitcoin, even though it's not that popular, but it's safe.

While XRP is really centralized and banks friendly, since ETF is a government's product, so they can easily approve XRP since the coins are in their control.

Many people voted SOL, but I doubt with it, SOL is only popular recently, it's kind of hype.

Although BNB is fourth biggest market cap coin, their market cap can be so high due to Binance, if the exchange fall, BNB will become worthless, so it's risky for government to launch the ETF version.

Litecoin, no. XRP, maybe. Litecoin have had no major developments in years, XRP still has some regulatory hurdles. Despite the hype solana currently has, it's going to take a long time before it can get it's own ETFs. Their ecosystem still has a lot to prove tbh that it's not just a chain for pump and dump memecoins. My opinion is that it's going to take awhile before we start seeing new ETF buzz for another altcoin after Ethereum. It won't be anytime soon.
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Has Trading Competitions competitions led you to challenge your skills? on: May 26, 2024, 10:00:42 PM
I took part in the early stages of Bitget's TraderPro program and it was actually a competition rather than a scholarship that they first made it out to be. While the comp went well, I found myself taking on too much risks because when you peek at the leaderboard and see others doing so well, you'd be pressured into taking additional risks and that's what happened to me. I broke my trading plan and at the end of the day, I didn't gain more knowledge or improve on my skill. It was a net-negative experience because only the top 50 traders with the highest ROI got in.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will It Be Jubilation or Devastation? Ethereum ETF Call Imminent on: May 26, 2024, 09:50:22 PM
~Snipped

What do you think the implications of an approved or rejected Ethereum ETF will be for the crypto market as a whole? Share your thoughts below!

An approved ETF means that Ethereum is now "cool" again and everyone who shaded it in favour of solana will have to take back their words because ETH will take the spotlight from Bitcoin in the interim because being the only altcoin to get an ETF so far is. a big deal. It goes to show how far ethereum has grown over the year as a protocol and as an ecosystem (L2s, Rollups, etc).

Things about to get interesting for ETH ecosystem projects as well.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jose Mourinho Next Job (Season 2024/2025) on: May 26, 2024, 09:41:09 PM
Football has evolved greatly, and many club sides are worried about Jose mourinho old school discipline approach; especially his outspoken spirit. Which is why it is difficult to find new jobs.

If Jose can emulate the likes of Ancelloti and allegri as a quiet disciplinarian, he will get top top jobs once again.
Also, what about nagglesman next job ? Or Xavi ? Haha

Even teams like Chelsea are no longer interested in veteran coaches but are out to seek younger coaches for their young team. The fact that Mourinho have had very little successes in recent times makes it harder for top teams to bid for his signature. Maybe if he had much luck with Roma and won the Europa league when he had the chance, maybe we'd be talking about a different story now.

Xavi, I don't know but I assume teams like Chelsea could get him on board. Isn't Julian Nagelsmann the current coach of Germany National team? If Germany performs well this Euro 2024, definitely sure he won't be in the market.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: May 26, 2024, 09:19:19 PM

Manchester United is a team with full of surprises. They were lost to weaker teams with big goals margin, but could win against Liverpool, and now they won the FA cup trophy by beating the favorite Manchester City. Ten Hag and the squad of Manchester United actually have a good quality to compete with top teams, but their problem is maintenance of their form.

The game was a typical of Manchester City playing a weaker team where they dominated the possession but failed to converted chances. Manchester United played it efficient by scoring from fewer chances. This game was always an unpredictable moment when a derby game is played in a cup final.

I've said it over the course of the season on multiple occasions that teams like Man Utd and Chelsea might lose to low-mid tier teams but rise to the occasion when up against teams in the top 4 of the table. Liverpool's losses started from that FA cup quarter loss to Man Utd and a subsequent 2-2 draw in the EPL. We also have Chelsea that drew City on both occasions this season in the PL but lost unfortunately to City in the FA cup semi finals. My point? Don't write off teams like Utd or Chelsea especially when they're up against teams were once their class.

City expected an easy game yesterday but Man Utd came with a plan and executed it to the latter.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hyperstaking on: May 25, 2024, 10:56:39 PM
Those ideas are absurd and I doubt if it would barely hold because with such high APR, there's going to be constant influx of tokens earned from staking rewards that would hit the market almost immediately leading to dilution. What's worse is if there isn't enough liquidity on the other side of the market for those reward tokens to be sold into, the dumps will be epic. This is why the concept of yield farming failed during the last bull run and so far, i haven't seen any good ideas that solves that problem not even OP's.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Donald Trump's stance on Bitcoin is changing, the Trump pump is beginning on: May 25, 2024, 10:51:50 PM
I still doubt if he has any understanding of what he is talking about regarding bitcoin, crypto or CBDCs. His campaign team are telling him to say stuff that would help him in the upcoming election and he just parrots them at the crowds.

This couldn't have been said any better. One of the categories of people not to be trusted are politicians especially when they're in the campaign mode like Trump has been doing. Trump's crypto advocacy during his campaign is simply to help him take in more donations and to put him in a good position with the lot of Bitcoiners and crypto folks that are interested in a crypto friendly US government. I do hope these people are taking his words with a grain of salt. Best to be keep expectations low imo.
13  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Tradding Vs Saving, which is the safest way to build crypto holdings on: May 25, 2024, 10:47:23 PM
  • Safest route: Buying and holding Bitcoin.
  • Fastest route with increased risks: engaging the market via trading.

It doesn't get simpler than that. The first path is chosen by sized investors who have plenty of capital and can just buy and hold. They don't need Bitcoin's price to move so much in order to profit. The second path comes with increased risks but so does the rewards and it is often the path chosen by the majority because if we're being honest, you're not going to get super rich of wealthy just buying Bitcoin at these prices unless you have a very sizeable position in Bitcoin.
14  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 The Emirates FA Cup - Season 2023/2024 on: May 25, 2024, 10:33:49 PM

Better to see them happy than Manchester City, those guys deserve to feel feel disappointed.

I agree with you 100%, it would have been even more disappointing if City had won the league and also the FA cup because it would make it seem like the other teams in the league are not just working hard enough. 4 league titles in a row, almost as if there are no worthy challengers. That is why, I supported Man Utd during the clash despite being a Liverpool fan. I don't like Man Utd but better be them than that dominant City team. It's the lesser evil  Wink
15  Economy / Economics / Re: Money and wealth is Energy know this first on: May 25, 2024, 10:27:29 PM
Upon reading the OP, I find similarities in the words of OP and a video I watched on YouTube a few weeks ago. There's something called the "illusion of success" which is when you think that you're successful or in this case, wealthy when you only just have money that sustains you. Anyone with such illusion will easily lose sight of the goal when they hit a couple of bucks to their name. Numbers in crypto can easily make you think you are doing well but in hindsight, you're only just getting started. Imo, thinking beyond those numbers and continue working to amass more profits and spraying them across to businesses and properties.

Most of the time, minors cannot do many things, such as registering on websites where minors are not allowed and if so, they are unable and protected by law in most civilized countries to frequent certain places and/or consume things like alcoholism, but this is no barrier and what most happens is these same young people breaking the barrier, there is always a gap.

It's possible that your children (if they are underage) are going to prohibited places like casinos and other things.

I think that argumentation will always be the best option than repressing these young folks, always a responsible adult, preferably parents and friends, guide them in an orderly manner without exposing these young people to ridicule. We also have to be careful not to be that stupid adult that everyone hates.

Ah yes, you hit the nail on the head with that reply. It's worth noting that parents/guardians might be oblivious of what their wards/kids are getting involved so that responsibility (the one about educating children on the risks poised by gambling However, most of those gambling house owners are aware of the implications but still go ahead to allow it simply because they're focused on the numbers — the more people that plays, the more their stats go up and they can get investors to buy into their firm or better still, profit from player losses.
17  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Social media account as KYC requirement? (2) on: May 24, 2024, 10:59:30 PM
Social media accounts as part of KYC requirements is actually a first. I'm not sure where these people get their ideas from but it's BS. These lawmakers need to focus on more important things because it's no longer funny. First, It used to BVN then they moved to NIN as defacto choice and it was stressful especially when they added a deadline tag to it. Why did we have to go through the stress of getting BVN + NIN if there's still social media handles to attach? Makes zero sense but then again, this is Nigeria.
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your preferred method of converting bitcoin (or other crypto) to fiat? on: May 24, 2024, 10:48:51 PM
Off-ramp methods will differ by country but where I'm from, P2p is the best way to convert crypto to fiat. There are no debit cards that support direct withdrawal of crypto to fiat over here so that's leave P2p as the predominant choice. I don't think any other methods will provide an experience close to, or superior to that of P2P but who knows? We might get something better in the future. Until then, P2p gets the jobs done for me without any hitches.
19  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers👉Group Stage on: May 24, 2024, 10:23:32 PM

I also have the same idea with you on Rashford's not having a good season. I just wanted to say that it wouldn't be a surprise for me to see him being included in the squad because of being experienced.
~Snipped

It's your opinion and that's fair too but for me, I would be in disbelief to see Rashford get a slot ahead of others since we all know for a fact that England squad is always packed with plenty of quality so it would be unfair for Rashford to get a slot ahead of other in-form players in the team. If you want to win trophies in football, you'd want to always put your best foot forward.  England isn't exactly the same as Man Utd where favoritism is the order of the day.

Look, even Joe Gomez got a slot  Grin
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DeFi continues to evolve with projects like TAIKO on: May 24, 2024, 09:55:35 PM
So it's not exactly the best and there are better alternatives for it?
Alright then I'll look forward to the TKO listing on exchanges then and when the price stabilizes

Taiko at a first glance prides itself as the most friendly Ethereum scaling solution but I don't think it's anywhere close and there are dozens of other projects that does the same thing.
 ~Snipped

Ah yes, there are other projects that currently exist that I think offer much more than Taiko at the moment. Their tech may improve in the future but right now, I won't be touching it because recent listings with similar situation like Taiko end up getting epically dumped at TGE/listing.

  • Renzo - REZ
  • Starknet - STRK
  • Parcl - PRCL
  • Omni
  • SAGA

This is just a tiny list. You'd want to check out the recent listings on both bybit and Binance. Taiko won't probably list on binance so you should get the gist by that fact already.

If you really want to get TKO, You might want to wait till first wave of sales are over before any further upsides. Goodluck btw.
