1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What are your ETH mining setups? on: January 21, 2017, 09:27:26 PM
I have 2 "full time" ETH mining rigs, one a triple R9 290, one a dual R9 290.

I have other rigs that bounce around, mostly between ETH and ZEC, depending on profitability.

 I mine through pools.

So i could be profitable with a 390?

I have yet to see any anti-cheat system to detect computer assisted play. Roll Eyes ... The only way this might work, would be to force speed chess.

This way the user will be penalized, while he inputs his opponents moves on a electronic device and waiting for the computer to make the

moves for him. People find ingenious solutions to cheat, so a smaller prize pot, would reduce the incentive to cheat.  Huh

Well cheating would be hard to stop during the game, however algorithms and machine learning models exist to analyze games for possible cheating retroactively. Thus, ban users cheating. Organize games/tournaments such that they are based on skill and rep.

What setup are you guys using to mine ETH? Are you in a pool? How much are you mining?

Increase block size *cough,cough*
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Using GPU cards for mining? on: January 18, 2017, 08:31:25 PM
Is it logical to use GPU cards for mining? ASIC machines are special devices manufactured only for mining. These devices are returning after a while as scrap. But yet high-end GPU cards can still be used, even if they lose the mining feature. The GPU cards can be used on the computer to play games. It's easier to sell GPU cards as second hand.

What are your thoughts about this?

It wouldn't be feasible to match the hashrate of ASIC miners with even top end GPUs today. Could probably mine ETH.

What would make buying crypto better?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would banks use a blockchain? on: January 16, 2017, 09:08:11 PM
This may not be what you are looking for, as it is not purely from a monetary/transaction standpoint. Banks could use the blockchain to securely and proofably hold data. The company Tierion does this with health and other business data. https://tierion.com/

To expand on this. Do transactions off-chain and simply store the hashed data containing the transactions on chain.

It'd be fun, but nothing to be taken too seriously. With machine-assisted chess beating humans in all aspects, nobody smart enough to know this would put much money into such a thing unless playign with someone you trust beforehand.

What about an anti-cheat system similar to lichess and chess.com?

Also, not allowing free accounts would surely help this problem, I would think.
No anti-cheat system for online chess can check whether or not the player is using external devices to input the opponent's moves and receive suggestions.

Algorithms exist to detect computer play, while not perfect I am sure there could exist some way to curb cheating to an acceptable level.

Would anyone be interested in a competitive chess website with payout being in BTC for wins?
