1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 28, 2011, 08:21:24 PM
Do you plan to implement fast transactions and basic escrow as proposed by Satoshi?

I think it will be a problem in the future, though probably not too severe.

Theymos great entry. Thank you for providing so much useful info.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Illegal content in the blockchain on: August 07, 2011, 09:04:22 AM
How large can a continuous custom block of content that can be embedded in to the blockchain be?
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Micropayments and scalability on: August 07, 2011, 08:54:51 AM
I know Bitcoin is not designed for micropayments. But also knowing almost instant secure transactions are possible with Bitcoin I wonder what would happen to Bitcoin network if people would start using bitcoins for micropayments? Could it still scale or would it become unusable? Maybe transaction fees would raise accordingly and made it unusable for micropayments?
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Illegal content in the blockchain on: August 07, 2011, 08:22:49 AM
I was under impression it is possible to embed completely custom text into the blockchain:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Incidents#ASCII_embedding_into_blockchain

Is this possible or not?

If it is what prevents someone from embedding illegal content?
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Fast transactions with double-spend attack detection on: August 07, 2011, 08:07:13 AM
Is anyone working on implementing fast transactions with double-spend attack detection as proposed by Satoshi?

Quote
Utilize a 'listening' period prior to rendering the service or good. This has yet to be formally implemented in the standard Bitcoin client, but would allow a vendor to receive the transaction and then monitor the Bitcoin network for a certain period of time (maybe 10 seconds) for possible double spends. Vendors might utilize specialized payment processors with multiple well-connected nodes for this purpose. As explained by Satoshi, the network nodes only accept the first version of a transaction they receive to incorporate into the block they're trying to generate. When you broadcast a transaction, if someone else broadcasts a double-spend at the same time, it's a race to propagate to the most nodes first. If one has a slight head start, it'll geometrically spread through the network faster and get most of the nodes. Therefore, the longer the listening period goes without a double spend attempt, the far less likely a double-spend attempt will actually succeed. If a double-spend is detected, the vendor is notified: no latte.
Myth: Point of sale with bitcoins isn't possible because of the 10 minute wait for confirmation

Has any of the developers commented on this issue? It sounds like this could potentially be a big problem that could criminalize every bitcoin user.

If I understand it correctly:
1. someone can store some illegal data into bitcoin (copyrighted content, child porn ...)
2. he lets everyone know what they are distributing/storing
3. if you continue to use bitcoin you can be charged for distributing/possessing illegal content

Could someone with more knowledge about this issue please add some info to:

8  Economy / Economics / BRICS dump US dollar on: April 17, 2011, 05:53:31 PM
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - the BRICS group of fastest growing economies - signed an agreement to use their own currencies instead of the predominant US dollar in issuing credit or grants to each other. BRICS economies hold 40 percent of the world's currency reserves, the majority of which is still in US dollars. More ...

How important is this news?

Nefario I have sent you a simple installation program, but I'm not sure the message was actually sent as I don't see it in my Outbox here.

So the idea is to get the basic functionality done on the command line, this will allow others to use it as a library(kind of), once we're happy with the command line client we'll be doing a native GUI.

And then for those more interested in convienience than security a web based client.
Turns out creating installation program for this program is a bit more complicated than I thought it was, so I'm not accepting the job. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I will hover provide a guide about installing it on Windows XP and maybe someone can use this information as a basis for creating a Windows installation program.

That was me, noone should have no balance. Cheesy Normally, you can get 0.05 BTC at https://freebitcoins.appspot.com/ but it’s being fixed at the moment.
Thanks again Blitzboom. Smiley

Yes, have a look at this, https://gitorious.org/black-market

Python

This is a client for the soon to be released bitcoin stock market, and it needs to be made easy to install on Linux and Windows.

Build a distribution package (especially for windows) that would be super, I'll pay... 30bitcoin

I'm updating that source code at the moment so just let me know if you'll do it and then wait about a day.
If I see correctly this a command line program? Are you updating it to include GUI?

Sorry, I can't take credit for that.
Well thanks to anonymous doner then. Smiley I did reply to your personal message now.

I don't have any experience with packaging python software for windows, but I will look at it latter on today and let you know if I accept this job.

Make a contribution, no matter how minor, to any open source project you'd like. I'll send you 0.05 BTC Smiley
I got my first cent, but still have a question about this, does any contribution count, not only coding? E.g. translation / documentation / bug reporting / packaging?

check your messages.
no need to work hard for a penny Wink

Yay. I earned my first penny by doing nothing. Smiley

Thanks deadlizard I assume that was from you? It says: From: unknown

Slovenian is my first language and English is the only other language I know.

Most of the programming I did was in PHP (some in PHP framework Symfony), but I'm also familiar with other programming languages (Python, Perl to name two).

I don't have any code samples I can share, but if you are not satisfied with the results, you don't have to pay.
17  Economy / Marketplace / [CLOSED] Looking for my first 1 cent BTC job :) on: April 16, 2011, 01:30:53 PM
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I'm testing how Bitcoin works and maybe getting to know some people in the process.

What does one have to do to earn 0.01 BTC around here? Wink

To give you some idea of what I'm looking for: I work in tech support and do some web development / programming on a side. But honestly it can be completely unrelated to that, I'm just looking for something that doesn't take much time, even if it is something silly. Smiley

You can send the requests here or to my email address: max.bloomquist@gmail.com. I will mark this thread as "[CLOSED]" when I will accept the job. My Bitcoin address is: 13974Df1nXjqtQdKETHopgewbgffrcoFFF
