Interesting replies.   This week BTC has come down quite hard, but its now recovering again.

Generally there are two types of investors, the ones who believe in the product, and will hold on to it for dividends and support the product so it appreciates in its prices..   Then there are speculative investors, who aim to profit by investing in short term, then selling off to take profit, this then causes a panic for many newcomer who sell off their BTC which in effect brings down the price.  The investor would then buy these BTC for cheap and wait again for the right time to sell to again take profit.

I have known bitcoin since 2011, have had some experiences with other altcoins and also the market in general.

Bitcoin has indeed disrupted the financial sector, and today there is concerns, both positive and negative about crypto-currencies.   Crypto and virtual currencies has existed for long, many, many years before bitcoin.  Games, and several payment platform also used some kind of virtual tokens. 

What bitcoin has brought is not only virtual / crypto-currency, but also the distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) ledger we all now know as blockchain.  This is an enhancement to p2p node computing.   Newer blockchain tecnologies (ethereum, etc.) adds to this building block, and many of the problems with the initial chain are being resolved.
