1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTR] vTorrent - Share with freedom | 2FA | HD | @Bittrex on: September 18, 2017, 02:38:15 AM
Bee,

The VTR coin is the token for the ecosystem and there is a 'token' that we're assuming is swappable in the wallet for VTR that will be used on a payments channel for leeching/seeding payments once the DEV gets to that point.  As far as we're aware currently, there is work being done to integrate ZCash technology for fully anonymous transactions, originally the VTR token was based loosely on Shadowcoin among others.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that we're waiting on a protocol such as BOLT (See https://z.cash/blog/bolt-private-payment-channels.html) so that setting up and closing payment channels, as well as all token and VTR transactions would be 100% private as any of us who have been here for a while can tell you is about all the DEV is concerned about.  Privacy and anonymity.  Also, the last we heard there was much work to be done to ensure that spoofing of seed/leach ratios was not possible through various methods as these would ruin the integrity of a market based system if one could cheat what their client was actually doing in terms of this.

So, pull up a chair and feel free to join the community run slack where we all speculate until were blue in the face about what's going on and where this project could eventually take us all.

Hey Dev, as I am sure you have seen, the peer count is dropping weekly.  We are now down to 5 active connections.  Orphan rates are up too.  At some point soon you need to provide information so people have a reason to do something other than day trade the VTR token which to me seems all anyone is doing here, just look at the trex books.  Come on man...

What we're asking for is totally reasonable, we shouldn't have to make so much ruckus to get you guys to communicate with us.

Think about it:
We add buy support to the price supporting your 3% premine and any other coins you've acquired
We run the staking client allowing the blockchain to run smoothly
We notify you of issues with the client so you can improve upon the core of the project
We educate newcomers to the project about the vision and potential of what's being developed here

I'm sure we do more, but the point is that you need to reciprocate by popping in here any sharing relevant info more often.

THANK YOU DEV TEAM!  Grin

I have a series of questions to pose to the DEV team.  Most of these are from reading back in the thread, as well as being active in the slack channel, so I’m bringing up stuff others have also been wondering about.  There is a growing sentiment of “what the heck is going on around here”, so hopefully we can get some clarity on these issues in the form of response from the DEV team.  Here goes:

#1:  In post #2216, we are discussing how “pieces” of torrent files are not transacted (leacher to seeder) on the VTR blockchain, but rather through micropayment channels using tokens that interchange with VTR coins.  Where at in the development cycle are the payment channels?

#2:  In post #2226, ik_do discussed hopes for the client in terms of: ease of use, ease of search, web of trust (seeder rating system), chatrooms, and adoption incentives.  This was an excellent, far-reaching post.  Can you discuss any plans in the development process to address any of these goals?

#3:  Most people who have researched this project understand the technology can make those using it the target of actions ranging from harassment from ISPs to much worse.  Does the client currently or in the future plan to help mask the commonly used identifiers of nodes on the network?  Or, is this left to the best practices of the users of the client?  For folks less technically savvy, what suggestions can be made in regards to better protecting your node from easy identification so that the network can scale safely?

#4:  In post #2822, it is asked if the client will offer any ways to protect people seeding torrents?  This goes hand in hand with the above, but also, will the planned I2P and TOR integration be handled through the client or by users running these services on their own?

#5:  Are there any plans for the client to provide for the use case of private tracker groups through some combination of the blockchain, in-wallet chat, or RIOT implementation?  Or, are their plans for some stripped-down version of a market to allow for this?  Even without torrents implemented, being able to encourage private trackers to use the client would be a boon.

#6:  Is the DEV team waiting for BEP 51 or any other BEPs (BitTorrent Enhancement Proposals) to be completed in order for your deployment of in-wallet torrent to be ready?

#7:  Is RIOT chat implementation ready for testing yet?  Are there any details on its implementation you can share at this time such as where the data will be stored and if masternodes may be needed and/or optional with this feature?  Can you share how ‘private’ chatting inside the client will be with this implementation?

#8:  Lastly, late last year there was some great discussion around work on incentivizing seeders and working on the economics for seeding/leaching.  With the input that was generated, have you made any solid plans for what this model will look like in vTorrent?

Also, many have commented on the activities of a 0.8.2 node on the network.  Can you comment on the nature of this node?

---------------------------------

Those are my questions, but there are other points I’d like to make.  In post #3022 and then on several occasions afterwards, the community has discussed a desire to create some sort of marketing and PR front.  In most crypto projects I’ve seen do well, there is a clear collaboration between the community and the DEV team or the DEV team is doing active communication on their own.  I feel this community has the numbers and know how to get things done, we have a community built website, also reference post #4042 for instance, community created videos, etc.  However, the MAJOR thing holding us back is the lack of any real broad updates from the DEV team since the OP really.  We need clarity, if not on all the above questions, then at least on some.  Also, a whitepaper, roadmap, milestones, or a dedicated trusted go-between person should be produced or appointed by the DEV team.  If funding is an issue to do any of these, I’m sure the community would step up because ANY news on this front will surely act to bolster the price.  With information coming from the DEV team, we will actually have something to go out and spread the word about.  Right now, despite great development that has taken place, we have little to talk about, so stagnation is occurring.

More importantly, communication on these items will solve what I see to be the main issue in moving this project forward from the social or network propagation standpoint.  The supporters and investors of this project as well as would-be buyers are simply turned off by the lack of stated future plans and goals from our trusted DEV team.  In order to grow the network and get our active connections up from the tens of nodes, to the hundreds of nodes and more, we need to know where this is heading.  The DEV team speaks about needing solid foundations and have shown us they are creating them technically.  Now, use words and not code to respond to community questions (or by appointing someone who can collaborate with you on this social front) and state the future plans and by doing so you’ll be building the SOCIAL foundations – a distributed group of active nodes to help the network effects grow.  This in turn will grow community support which may lead to help aiding your technical efforts to build the technological foundations to grow and then scale this thing.

And to top it off, now after 5 days of having a simple withdrawal request ticket as WA state bagholder, they won't even respond to my ticket.  I guess since I can't trade and make them any money they can just sit on my ticket until they feel like helping me.  I mean, does anyone else see the need to move some of the stupid polo volume over to Bittrex?  They seem like a way more fair place to be trading, just needs more depth.

Yeah come join slack, we could use a more fluid conversation and less of the same old speculation.  Hopefully the DEV can update here first though, the excitement in crypto is going off the charts this March.  50% daily crypto volume of $1.5 Billion in Alts.  That's $750,000,000 of trading in one day in alt coins and it's only going to grow!  Wow!
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PASC] PascalCoin, deletable blockchain & bank account system [PASA] on: March 18, 2017, 11:58:42 PM
Polo didn't add this coin because it was good volume or a sure fire money maker for them.  They added because it is unique in a world of alt-coin scams.  Just look at the wallet, ease of moving around accounts, and the features of the block chain itself.  Polo added it because they see something for the future of it.  So if this rise is surprising people and they think it's just a fake out to sell back to 1k sats you are kidding yourself.

I'll dig back in the thread and copy why I said that.  Not a shill, I like it here cause there aren't a lot of shillers.

Indeed, there are a lot of new eyeballs here now watching.  I am eager to hear about what features we may be inheriting from the ShadowCash project.  Tick tock tick tock.  Thanks @DEV

Coins, when you post that info tomorrow can you possibly link back to your post about setting up your wallet for staking?  Really good info there now unfortunately buried back in pages of dead PureVIDZ crap posts.  Maybe some newer folks could use that to get some more coins staking to help the chain out.

Thanks

So the general consensus among those on this forum at least is a wait and see approach.  I get that, our Dev is pretty lackluster in the info department, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing as long as there is progress being made.

I'm more than willing to just sit back and 'see what happens', but first, just a thing to consider.  Most successful projects at some point get some holders together to try and spread the word about the project, what's happening with DASH right now is the perfect case in point.  They have been hitting marketing real hard for a real long time.  So, if someone in the future wants to try and organize some kind of communal fund in VTR to fund the different things we all know this project needs, I'll be there to pitch in my staking reward at minimum to help out.

Hey guys, long time follower first time BTCtalk user  Grin

Wondering if one of you can reply with some useful stickies for newer folks here?

I'll contribute what I have, maybe you can fill in some others?

Videos on what this project is attempting to do, overall vision:

Also, there hasn't been talk of putting together a marketing fund for several months.  I think that would be beneficial for this project since it is suffering from lack of exposure and I'd be game to donate my staking reward to that.  Any word on a possible interview IKDO?  Huh
