Ok thank you will try this when im back from work. Sadly they are shitty micron with very low hash Rates if not flashed. Will See later Smiley

Hello thank you for your input. I Use powered usb 3.0 riser. The gpu are flashed.. I noticed the error message in awesome miner "gpu 3 hangs in openCL" before the crash happens..
And yes my mainboard has some Feature called "above 4g memory" (Info says for using more than 4 gpu)
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Miner crashes after few minutes. Can cpu be a cause? on: April 27, 2017, 08:56:40 PM
Hello im currently running my rig with 5 times rx470. OS is win 10.
I am using a Z270 mainboard with an Intel Pentium g4400 @ 2x3.4GHz.

Is it possible that my cpu is too weak? One gpu drops to 0 mh/s after few mins and when i press a button after win10 crashes.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Adding 6th GPU to my rig. Ideas? on: April 19, 2017, 03:25:30 PM
Hello everyone,
currently Im running my first rig with 5x MSI rx 470 8gb (Micron). They get only around 119MH/s on Ethereum even though I flashed the BIOS.

Now Im sitting on a 6th GPU, the Powercolor 480 8gb Red Devil(Samsung).

When I connected the Red Devil onto my 6th GPU slot (Mainboard: MSI Z270 GAMING PLUShttps://www.notebooksbilliger.de/msi+z270+gaming+plus/?nbb=pla.google_&wt_cc2=912-0001_Hardware_304529&gclid=Cj0KEQjwldzHBRCfg_aImKrf7N4BEiQABJTPKOAzPxaLaPrnUlUlZjyM13ucYu6IHLfzS_FPNKC-LOsaAi5y8P8HAQ)
booted my rig up and just received major graphic issues, a crash and was not able to boot into windows anymore. So I installed windows 10 again and was able to recover the rig running with the 5 GPUs.

On a seperate system I now connected the Red Devil and the card seems to be working fine.

I cant really make any idea what was the problem.. Maybe because the other cards were 470s and the new one has problems with the drivers? Maybe because I have put it into the 6th GPU slot? since Ive read that many Mainboards seem to have trouble when connected to multiple GPU.

Before I will destroy my windows again i would like to know if anyone knows this issue or has an idea what could have happened  Grin maybe it is not possible to run those simultaniously anyways?

Cheers guys  Cheesy
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Bricked 470 GPU damaging whole rig. Help needed on: April 15, 2017, 07:08:19 PM
Hello everyone, today Im in need of all your wisdom! I hope someone of you can help me.

the story:
3 days ago I had 4x RX 470 8gb working around 26mh/s (micron) and my fifth only did ~22. So I looked for further improvements since my brother has the same card with 29mh/s.
Looked around the internet and downloaded some BIOS (great mistake). Flashed the card and nothing worked anymore. Long story short after 2 days of pure setbacks Ive managed to flash a working BIOS onto the said card which was totally bricked (no pc at all would boot with it no matter if it is the main card or not, was not able to change BIOS via bootable stick and atiflash). I dont know if it is possible but my other cards also seemed to act weird since the incident.

Well now I have managed to get the BIOS which works with my other cards onto the damaged one but it is still not working. Plugging a HDMI cable onto it will just result in no signal at all. Here is what afterburner and GPUZ says (1, 2):

So the result until now is the following:
Both PCs (the rig and another one) are acting weird since I have plugged this card onto it. The SSD is always on 100% utilization (processes only take 0,3-max 5 MB in TOTAL) (3)
The SSD on my rig is also not working anymore I guess. Booting my rig I instantly get the screen in picture (4) and is stuck there.

So right now my rig is not working at all anymore.
I dont really know what to do and where to start.. Is it possible that a bad BIOS damages the Mainboard or SSD?
Do you have any suggestions I should try to fix my problem near future  Huh Embarrassed
At least Im happy that I managed to flash the card after 2 days (even though it might be gone forever..) What should I try to do with the card?

ANY advice is highly appreciated!
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sudden permanent hash-drop? [RX 470] on: April 12, 2017, 05:46:36 PM
Hi
First check with gpu-z the type of memory of all cards like it was previously said , here you can see a screenshot where the memory is SAmsung https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/gpu-z-test-build-memory-module-vendor-detection.196685/ , check if  it samsung , hynix , micron or elpida! If it is the same , than you try this card alone , to see if it can hold the modded bios! Keep in mind that claymore miner shows the card not always in the same order and when you start the miner it could be different gpu! So test the card alone!

Hey,
all 5 cards are Micron (sigh) thats why im happy that i  have managed to run 4 with 26mh/s now. Only one is making trouble with 23 only now. I figured out that even though they are all the same type I had to change the Memclock from 1850 to 1800 in BIOS and now they seem to run stable. Only problem is the one card with low hash rate which i could not fix by now
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sudden permanent hash-drop? [RX 470] on: April 11, 2017, 06:40:47 PM

Have you checked for memory errors?
If you are on windows you can use HWinfo64 to do that.
Maybe a GPU has problems with those higher clocks and it's unstable.

p.s. See a hundred of memory errors is normal, but if they are hundred of thousands you have a problem

Hello Ambros,
thanks for your input, I have downloaded HWinfo64 and am now testing it (for 30 mins now). It says 0 errors in total. No GPU at all has a single error for now.
Besides the BIOS flash Im not additionally overclocking my cards right now till I have solved this issue  maybe thats why i dont get any errors, also did not  touch the voltage.

Dont know if i should be happy about this result or not  Grin

Thanks for the link. The mysterious 4mh/s seemed to happened to me once.. so i will try to investigate this now. Today new risers arrived. Will try to plug all GPUs at once onto my mainboard with old/new and without risers and HDMI and look out for any saliences. Will try to change the order of my Ports (which last time resulted in the 4mh thing) and see how to make a difference. Otherwise I dont really know what to check/do anymore to find a solution  Roll Eyes

Try to put the monitor on this card see if it is ok! If the hash rate is changing up and down , lower the clock till it stabilize! Restart the miner every time!

Hello liomojo,
I have put the HDMI into the GPU 4 and first it seemed normal.. then I started the miner and now GPU 1 also only did 4 Mh/s... then i closed it and got a white screen..
after switching the HDMI back to GPU 0 the hash rates were back to "normal"

do you have any idea what this could cause?

check each card on gpu-z

same make and model have different ram

this would be an issue if true.
Hey philipma,
I have looked into GPUZ but I dont actually know what is meant by RAM type. cant see any info which is called that way? :/

Thank you both.

edit: two more maybe important things: my PSU sometimes gives a somewhat high-pitched squeeking sound for a fracture of a second.. but it is brand new, 1200watt AURUM PRO for 200€, dont expect that to be damaged..
- when I change the order of my PCIE slots I also get different hash rates.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Sudden permanent hash-drop? [RX 470] on: April 10, 2017, 07:03:46 PM
Hello everyone, after finally setting up my rig and everything working fine ive encountered some problem!  Grin
My rig consists of 5x RX 470 (8gb) [shitty MICRON mem type]

Today I switched from genoil to Claymore miner to check my hash rates. The last few days I have tried modding the bios somewhat so that my GPUs went from 21-22MH/s to nice 26,xMH/s which made me pretty happy.

In Claymore I was able to see the seperate Hashrate for every GPU. I flashed them all with the same bios, bought them the same day from the same supplier.

With the custom ROM stats were like this:
GPU 0= 26.142
GPU 1= 26.155
GPU 2= 26.127
GPU 3= 23.140
GPU 4= 26.152

GPU 0,1,2,4 I was very sastisfied by.. But I was wondering what could be the reason why GPU 3 lacks behind. As I said I have installed the EXACT same rom and they all seem to be the same type of card.

Now it gets even weirder. Thinking I may forgot to properly flash the GPU 3, I used ATIFLASH to install the same bios rom again on GPU 3. Instead of giving better results nothing changed. But what surprises me very much is, that after I flashed GPU 3 again, the rate for GPU 4 also dropped after the restard  Huh Sad
Now they are both around 22MH/s, slightly more effective like I have bought them.. But as I have seen that GPU4 already did 26+ MH Im not very pleased with the actual situation since I did not change anything to this card..

Did anyone else encounter such a problem and can give me some advice? Would really appreciate since I dont really know what I should try since I did not change anything..

Thank you guys!
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building my first mining rig [Problems] on: April 07, 2017, 07:41:19 PM
Hello again,
just wanted to give a small update. After purchasing the Z270, new CPU and Risers finally arriving, my rig is finally working!
So far so good, just did a quick test run.

Everything seems to be finde, just have one more question Iam kind of concerned about..

MSI Afterburner states that I draw around 80w/GPU, fully 100% exhausted while mining.

1) Still the temperature wont go over 60-63°C (?) the fans are not even turning, sometimes just minimalistic. Can this be true?
2) I have plugged a wattage measure device to the rig.. It states that the rig pulls 1500Watt while mining? I am using a 1200W PSU.. Is this even possible?

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Thanks guys for your support so far! Cheesy

Hi,

1st of all. the risers you are using are the worst you can get (try getting some usb version 6 or 7, it would make your life easier). Difference from version 6 to version 7 is that the riser in version 7 has a SATA power connector (i think)

2nd. Check that all GPU's are working properly (one by one, with just one connected to the motherboard at a time, without riser!)

If all cards work fine, then wait for the risers. If that doesn't work also, then check the motherboard.

 Smiley

Hey there,
Today I have ordered some USB risers -again-.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/2x-USB3-0-PCI-E-Express-1x-bis-16x-Extender-Riser-Karte-Adapter-USB-Kabel-Mining-/332089821794?hash=item4d52188a62:g:rwkAAOSwopRYc0sc
hope those will do the job, those are really the only ones which will be delivered within 2 weeks  Roll Eyes
Will see to send the old ones back to the shop. Additionally I will send back my motherboard if possible.
The risers I posted in the first post from amazon were fraud.. hope I wont have to wait too long

In my other PC I have build in a "GIGABYTE GA-970-GAMING" https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B019NFFJXK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Is this one any better for Multi GPU than my Z97? Or should I directly buy the Z270 motherboard from MSI (since the GIGABYTE one only has 4x PCI-E and 4x USB 3.0?)

Huh Are you completely blocking the vga cards hot air exhaust end Huh

Hey xxcsu,
you are right, seems like my rail partly blocks the side of the vgas.. do you think this will be significant? If really needed I am in reach of a milling machine.. so when everything is working I can monitor the heat and if it really makes a difference I could still adapt it..

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Building my first mining rig [Problems] on: April 02, 2017, 06:37:01 PM

Yes the Z97 anniversary edition supports multi gpu mining. You need to start out your rig with one GPU first , see if it loads up until to windows, if it does try with 2 cards and so on. Usually with this board you will have a few problems with 6 GPU but it should support well 5 GPU-s. If it doesn't give you signal even with 1 GPU then you should have your mainboard troubleshooted. I don't know about ASRock but latest MSI motherboards have already prebuild led lights that tells you what your problem could be.

If you ask me a 6th generation motherboard should work much better for mining than a 4th generation motherboard, so if you have some money left by all means by a Z270 motherboard from MSI, it supports up to 8 GPU-s without problems.

Hello Cereberus,
really appreciate your input! Iam glad to hear that it is possible to use this mainboard for mining, I will anyways look for your mentioned alternatives.
Right now I have managed to get the setup running with 1 GPU and it seems to work so far.. Those cheap risers are kind of a headache because the MOLEX pins are not manufactured well. Furthermore I managed to boot the PC with a second GPU connected (the first one connected to the monitor is put in the x16 PCI slot and the second one in one of the 3 x1 PCI slots), BUT in windows screen I get kind of artifacts which makes me think something cant be right. The second GPU also shows some weird behaviour concerning the fan speed.. It switches from 0-100% every few seconds while the first one is completely shut off (due to low temperature i guess). Thats how far I have progressed now  Cheesy
It is also not regocnized in device-manager.

Any further suggestions are very appreciated.
Thanks again!
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Building my first mining rig [Problems] on: April 02, 2017, 02:17:48 PM
Hello everyone,
after following cryptos a long time and missing great opportunities I finally decided to build my first mining rig.
Since I am not VERY experienced in this matter it was only a question of time to run in trouble.  Undecided

First of all I want to tell you which components I have bought:
1) Mainboard: Asrock Z97 anniversary [http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Anniversary/index.de.asp]
   - I originally wanted to buy the H97 edition but it has a long delivery delay in my location at the moment so i thought this would also do the job?
2) PSU: FSP-Aurum PRO 1200 [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B008410E4Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
3) Intel BX80646G1840 Celeron G1840 Prozessor [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00K5OJ0TS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
4) 120 GB SSD [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00A1ZTZOG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
5) Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM 8GB [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B006YG94Y2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
6) Power Switch [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000PELTVA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
7) CPU cooler [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00OB40ULU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
   - I was not sure why I bought this one additionally since the Celeron delivered a small cooler with it. I mounted this one anyways but switched        to the celeron one because it was just too big. I was not able to connect my risers with my mainboard while this one was mounted on the mainb.
8 ) Device to measure my Wattage [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007459MH6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
9) 5x (soon hopefully 6) MSI Radeon RX 470 GAMING X 8GB [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01JP9U51A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
10) PCI-E riser USB [https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B06W57J72K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]
-Still waiting for the delivery thats why I bought other ones too:

     - now those are just some random 1x -> 16x riser and 16x -> 16x riser without any USB connection. But they have MOLEX which I connect to the power supply.. (why do they need power supply anyway if they are just some sort of extension?)

So far so good.
Here I started connecting everything to my "case":

My result today after changing the cooler again and connecting everything now looks like this:

Since I have never used multiple GPUs in a single PC I first wanted to make it work with 1 GPU(connected via Riser). So I installed Ubuntu which I have no experience with. Manged to figure out that my hardware was properly connected but I had some difficulty with booting and sometimes I would get no signal when the HDMI is connected to the GPU, only working when the HDMI is directly connected to the mainboard.
Not knowing how to really solve this I switched to win10 trying to make it work first before also switching to an operation system which i dont know at all.

After installing windows, updating the BIOS to the newest version and installing all drivers[INF, Video driver] it finally boots and restarts without any problems or graphic issues(while using riser).

So at this point 1 GPU is connected via Riser to my PCI-Express 16pin slot, so Iam using a 16 to 16 riser from the image I have uploaded.

At this point I was pretty confident and things start to go weird and I cant find any solution. When I now connect a second or third GPU with the other riser from the image (1 to 16) and try to boot it either
1) gives no signal at all while the GPU clearly runs
2) freezes in boot menu
3) shows windows screen and gives no signal afterwards

I have tried to connect the cards in different variations.. a combination of my 16/16 riser and multiple 1/16 riser, only 3x the 1/16 riser and nothing seems to make a difference.. after reading a bit about my mainboard Iam not even sure if i can use it for mining anyway..

now after plugging cards on and off I tried to go back to the state I mentioned above when everything seemed to work. So I only use 1 GPU connected with the 16x16 riser and it also gives me no signal at all..

So my questions are:
1) does anyone also use the Z97 anniversary edition mainboard? should I buy another one or is it possible to use it for multi gpu mining?
2) what other possible causes of my issues there may be?
3) does anyone have any further tips concerning my setup or issue?

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to read my post.
