Hello everyone, after finally setting up my rig and everything working fine ive encountered some problem!  Grin
My rig consists of 5x RX 470 (8gb) [shitty MICRON mem type]

Today I switched from genoil to Claymore miner to check my hash rates. The last few days I have tried modding the bios somewhat so that my GPUs went from 21-22MH/s to nice 26,xMH/s which made me pretty happy.

In Claymore I was able to see the seperate Hashrate for every GPU. I flashed them all with the same bios, bought them the same day from the same supplier.

With the custom ROM stats were like this:
GPU 0= 26.142
GPU 1= 26.155
GPU 2= 26.127
GPU 3= 23.140
GPU 4= 26.152

GPU 0,1,2,4 I was very sastisfied by.. But I was wondering what could be the reason why GPU 3 lacks behind. As I said I have installed the EXACT same rom and they all seem to be the same type of card.

Now it gets even weirder. Thinking I may forgot to properly flash the GPU 3, I used ATIFLASH to install the same bios rom again on GPU 3. Instead of giving better results nothing changed. But what surprises me very much is, that after I flashed GPU 3 again, the rate for GPU 4 also dropped after the restard  Huh Sad
Now they are both around 22MH/s, slightly more effective like I have bought them.. But as I have seen that GPU4 already did 26+ MH Im not very pleased with the actual situation since I did not change anything to this card..

Did anyone else encounter such a problem and can give me some advice? Would really appreciate since I dont really know what I should try since I did not change anything..

Thank you guys!

Try to put the monitor on this card see if it is ok! If the hash rate is changing up and down , lower the clock till it stabilize! Restart the miner every time!

check each card on gpu-z

same make and model have different ram

this would be an issue if true.

Hello liomojo,
I have put the HDMI into the GPU 4 and first it seemed normal.. then I started the miner and now GPU 1 also only did 4 Mh/s... then i closed it and got a white screen..
after switching the HDMI back to GPU 0 the hash rates were back to "normal"

do you have any idea what this could cause?

Hey philipma,
I have looked into GPUZ but I dont actually know what is meant by RAM type. cant see any info which is called that way? :/

Thank you both.

edit: two more maybe important things: my PSU sometimes gives a somewhat high-pitched squeeking sound for a fracture of a second.. but it is brand new, 1200watt AURUM PRO for 200€, dont expect that to be damaged..
- when I change the order of my PCIE slots I also get different hash rates.

I read about this earlier today. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1862810.msg18525116#msg18525116

Have you checked for memory errors?
If you are on windows you can use HWinfo64 to do that.
Maybe a GPU has problems with those higher clocks and it's unstable.

p.s. See a hundred of memory errors is normal, but if they are hundred of thousands you have a problem

Hello Ambros,
thanks for your input, I have downloaded HWinfo64 and am now testing it (for 30 mins now). It says 0 errors in total. No GPU at all has a single error for now.
Besides the BIOS flash Im not additionally overclocking my cards right now till I have solved this issue  maybe thats why i dont get any errors, also did not  touch the voltage.

Dont know if i should be happy about this result or not  Grin

Thanks for the link. The mysterious 4mh/s seemed to happened to me once.. so i will try to investigate this now. Today new risers arrived. Will try to plug all GPUs at once onto my mainboard with old/new and without risers and HDMI and look out for any saliences. Will try to change the order of my Ports (which last time resulted in the 4mh thing) and see how to make a difference. Otherwise I dont really know what to check/do anymore to find a solution  Roll Eyes

The 4 Mh/s seems to be a common occurrence, I've read others say that you simply connect a screen to fix the issue, but often a machine reboot or even just restarting the miner can be enough to fix it.

I'm also seeing some cards drop hash like that, I will be spending more time on individually testing them, and running different clock speeds instead of syncing them all.

Hi
First check with gpu-z the type of memory of all cards like it was previously said , here you can see a screenshot where the memory is SAmsung https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/gpu-z-test-build-memory-module-vendor-detection.196685/ , check if  it samsung , hynix , micron or elpida! If it is the same , than you try this card alone , to see if it can hold the modded bios! Keep in mind that claymore miner shows the card not always in the same order and when you start the miner it could be different gpu! So test the card alone!

Hey,
all 5 cards are Micron (sigh) thats why im happy that i  have managed to run 4 with 26mh/s now. Only one is making trouble with 23 only now. I figured out that even though they are all the same type I had to change the Memclock from 1850 to 1800 in BIOS and now they seem to run stable. Only problem is the one card with low hash rate which i could not fix by now

Flash it back with the original one and try again to see if it is stable! If it is , try overclocking the mem , till it is stable! And make sure it is alone and monitor is on it , to see artefacts and problems , may be it is faulty card!

GPU 1= 26.155
GPU 2= 26.127
GPU 3= 23.140
GPU 4= 26.152

I've seen this many times on my rigs, never really worried about it, just adjusted the power level for the 'lagging' card by about 5% and it comes up to speed with the others. Not that I use BIOS modded cards though.

can you link your moded rom please?
what straps are you using ?
what mem/core speeds?

i have some msi rx 470 8gb cards that have micron memory too - will try to flash with your rom and see if i get any answers.
